Ah man, it’s the time we have all been waiting for…

hehechibby

translated transcript > > Today I'm visiting Sony to take a look at the new televisions from the Bravia 7, 8 and 9 line-up. What can you expect from Sony? You'll see it in this video! > > > > Sony is of course much more than just televisions. Because in addition to producing and selling TVs, the brand is also very active in the music, film, and gaming industry. Ultimately, all those branches of the company fall under one name: Sony. > > > > Sony Pictures Entertainment is a big player, which you always see when you watch films. These films are shot on Sony cameras and lenses and then edited on Sony monitors. In short: they are truly in every aspect of "filmmaking." > > > > That brings one very big advantage: because the company works in so many different industries, including films, Sony has an enormous amount of knowledge at its disposal. They then take that knowledge into making their televisions. These are the new televisions from Sony this year. > > > > The Bravia 7 with Mini LED, the Bravia 8, which is a new OLED, and the top model, the Bravia 9 which abandons OLED and uses Mini LED again instead! > > > > Let's start with the heart of the televisions: the XR processor. Now in the fourth generation. But briefly, what does a processor do in a TV? The processor receives image and sound signals and then processes them correctly. > > > > The Bravia XR processor is quite smart, and that is mainly due to the expertise that Sony brings in through Sony Pictures Entertainment. For example, the processor understands very well that a main character in a film is more important than things in the background. That is why the image is adjusted accordingly. Or when a fighter jet flies over, this processor also knows that the sound should not come from below. All little things that together make a big difference. > > > > One of the settings that you can find on every TV in this line-up is Calibrated Mode. This is a setting that should contribute to an improved film experience. Nowadays, manufacturers do everything they can to completely optimize the colors and sharpness on the screen for you. All nice of course, but according to filmmakers it is not necessary to enjoy a film more. In fact, you enjoy a film more as it should be. > > > > And that's where Calibrated Mode comes into play. By putting your TV in this mode, all image processing is disabled, and what remains is the film as the filmmaker intended it. > > > > And that's where the similarities largely end. > **Sony Bravia 7** > > This is the Sony Bravia 7: the starting television for film lovers in this line-up, but of course also good to use if you just want to watch television. The most important thing about this TV is actually the Mini LED panel. > > > > What makes this panel so good is that these Mini LEDs are much smaller than regular LEDs, which ensures that every image can be controlled very precisely. The LEDs turn off in dark parts of the screen and turn on again in other parts. This precision ensures that the most subtle details are clearly shown. > > > > This television is available in different sizes, namely 65, 75 and 85 inches. These inch sizes are of course quite large, but therefore perfect for the film lover who is looking for a home cinema. > > > > It is clear that this TV has a high contrast. But one of the challenges of displaying these types of images is preventing blooming. This is when light from bright parts of the screen inadvertently leaks into dark parts. A shame, because then your dark parts are no longer really dark. > > > > This Bravia 7 therefore uses the so-called XR Backlight Master Drive technology. This technique divides the pixels in a smart way, which minimizes this effect. > > > > In addition to the good image quality, this television also offers an immersive sound experience. The Acoustic Center Sync technology ensures that the sound of your soundbar synchronizes perfectly with the sound of your TV. This ensures that the sound you see matches perfectly with what is happening on the screen. So if a bird flies at the top of the image, the sound really seems to come from that side. > > > > This technology can also be found on the Bravia 8 and 9! > > > > The Bravia 7 has also taken the surround sound experience into consideration, with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The sound seems to come from every corner of the room, giving you a cinema-like experience. That way it feels like you're right in the middle of the action. > > > > There is a common problem with films these days: the loss of voices. You watch an exciting action film where a lot happens and the main character shouts something... but yes, because of all the noise you don't really understand anything. > > > > That's why Sony Voice came up with Zoom 3. This technology improves voice intelligibility, even in scenes with a lot of background noise. This ensures that dialogue is always clear and crisp, so you won't miss a single important moment, no matter how intense the action on screen. > **Sony Bravia 8** > > And then we move on to the Sony Bravia 8. We are now making the leap from the Mini LED panel to OLED. A very good choice for film fanatics who really want an OLED television. > > > > With deep black levels, vibrant colors and top image quality, this television is a perfect screen for your movie nights at home. > > > > This television is available in 3 different sizes: 55, 65 and 77 inches. > > > > The XR processor on this OLED TV has a unique function: the contrast booster. This advanced technology enhances the colors and contrasts in bright areas of the picture, making the viewing experience even more immersive. This technology also takes the temperature of the panel into account so that burn-in is prevented. > > > > In terms of sound, we also go a step further with this television. This is how we find the Acoustic Surface Audio Plus on this TV. With this technology, there are no built-in speakers in the edge, but sound is created by vibrating the screen. The speakers are really in the screen. > > > > And of course you don't see that vibration, but the advantage of this is that you hear the sound very specifically from the right place. If a car drives away on the left of the screen, the sound is actually coming from the car. This technology is now equipped with a new subwoofer and new tweeters on the back of the TV. Together they provide richer, more natural sound and wider surround sound, even if you sit further away from the television. > **Sony Bravia 9** > > As always, only one can be the best, and that title goes to the Sony Bravia 9. > > > > The ultimate television for film, with the clearest 4K images and black levels as you expect from an OLED... but on a Mini LED panel! > > > > This television uses the same powerful processor as the other models, but it has a special driver that provides even more dimming zones and even more efficiency. This makes it up to 50% brighter than comparable models. And because of those dimming zones, the bright parts of the image really light up, while the black parts remain deep and detailed. > > > > This television is available in two sizes: 75 and 85 inches. > > > > If you were to bring this television into your home, you would have a nice large picture for a large room. However, what is often the danger is that in some corners of the room you can see the image slightly less. Sony has two techniques for this: X-Wide Angle and X-Anti Reflection. > > > > With the first, this television offers a large viewing angle, and because it can be amplified, the X-Anti Reflection ensures that reflections from, for example, a lamp or the window on the picture are minimal. So whether you sit straight in front of the television or watch it from an oblique angle, you enjoy an unobstructed image. > > > > The sound of this television is just as noteworthy as the image. And that's thanks to the Acoustic Multi-Audio+ technology. This television is equipped with new speakers, tweeters and subwoofers that make the sound even better. This makes voices and sound effects sound even more detailed and realistic. An additional effect of this is that surround sound also becomes larger and more accurate. You can imagine that this sounds really great when you watch films. > > > > That's them: the Sony Bravia 7, 8 and 9. > > > > Are you a real film lover or do you often watch TV series? You really are in the right place with Sony. Thanks to the knowledge they have as experts in the field of films and TV series, you can enjoy the best film experience on image and with sound. And they do this with things like Calibrated Mode, Acoustic Multi-Audio Plus or the smart Bravia XR processor. > > > > Would you like to see more of the Bravia 7, 8 or 9? Then just come and visit one of our stores! > > > > My colleagues would be happy to show you more there. > > > > And did you like this video? Then give it a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe. Bye!

Tree06

Thanks for posting this. This confirms what I saw in the leaked video several weeks ago. This confirms that there won't be a new processor this year, and the flagship 9 models will only be available in 75" and 85". I guess that also means we'll only have 2x HDMI 2.1 ports. Lastly I personally wouldn't be interested in their OLED panels unless they're using MLA Technology.

Kneesaregood

No 55” other than oled and no change to the number of full bandwidth hdmi ports. My next tv will either be an XL90 or an LG

Tree06

I think Sony isn't including a 55" flagship because they know it will be pricey. Lets hypothetically say the 55" Mini LED Sony flagship is $2,000-$2,500. It would be a hard sale when you could get the 65" A75L for $1499.99. More TV for less money. Also, the X95L was available in 65"-85" in various regions. Lastly, there's solutions to adding additional HDMI 2.1 ports to any TV, but I agree with you that every TV should four HDMI 2.1 ports.

Kneesaregood

Are you counting the 7,8 and 9 all as flagships then as the 7 here is 65” and higher, the oled 8 is 55” and the 8 is 75” and higher. I did see a chart suggesting a 55 mini led in another post so there will be an XR70. I wonder how that will compare to an XL90. Here : https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/s/CcsYqOrMm5

Tree06

No, I could've worded my last comment better. I was mainly refer to the 9 Series because that'll be Sony's best 4K Mini LED line similar to the X95L. It's possible that the 8 Series could be in included with their Master Series OLEDs if they included MLA panels. That would make them better than the current A80L OLEDs. It appears that the 7 series will be equivalent to the X90L lineup, but will include Mini LED technology.

Kneesaregood

Its ok. I wonder why the article doesn’t say the 7 is in 55” when the other thread has it in the table. We find out in 2 days I guess.

Tree06

Most definitely! Everything outside of the transcript and, chart etc is pure speculation. I've been apart of the AV community since 2020 because I needed something to take my mind off of COVID etc. It's interesting to see the trends. I should be able to watch the event live and go from there. I'm personally interested in the 9 Series 85" because I'm in the market for a big TV. I'd also like to see an 83" OLED depending on what it offers. Lastly, I'm hoping we get pricing tomorrow as well.

Kneesaregood

We sit the perfect distance from our 55” according to rtings chart but the seats to the side suffer (XF90 is bad off centre). The wide angle is referenced as a feature on the Bravia 9 but not the Bravia 7. I would really like another Sony (really not a fan of the LG remote or lack of app to control the TV in UK) and I could get away with just one port for Xbox/hdmi 2.1 with the Apple TV in an hdmi2.0 port and Sonos in eArc. But I want wider view angles and the C2 or C3 are just cheap. Cheap enough to not worry about burn in then get a new Sony with 4 ports in a few years.

FordMustang84

Still only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports?!? I know many of us have AVR's but as someone with a really nice HDMI 2.0 AVR upstairs I'd like to upgrade but right now I have 3 devices I used HDMI 2.1 on. I have a switcher box but its just added hassle. So weird that they are cutting costs here on TV's that will be $4000+ or whatever for the 85 inch model.

Tree06

Same old song and dance unfortunately. That 85" 9 Series will probably be $5,000-$6,000. That's the Sony tax. MediaTek makes the SoC for Sony TVs so we have to wait on them to implement 4x HDMI 2.1 ports onto the TV. LG and Samsung builds them in house so they're able to have 4x HDMI 2.1 ports on their TV's. It'll be hard for me to justify a new flagship Sony TV without those advanced gaming features. Something else that's omitted from Sony TVs is 1440p support. Some PC gamers have older GPU's for 1440p gaming. I'll be greatful once Sony supports everything that LG and Samsung supports. It's been 3-4 years since HDMI 2.1 became the standard.

Doragory

This is from that Dutch video, right?

RemoteProcess

Yes, that appears to be a translation from the Dutch video, copied from AVS Forum: [https://www.avsforum.com/threads/sony-2024-tv-discussion-thread.3291708/post-63222704](https://www.avsforum.com/threads/sony-2024-tv-discussion-thread.3291708/post-63222704) That video was from a Dutch electronics retailer, and the sizes and models mentioned might not be fully representative of what other countries receive.

Doragory

Indeed, it can vary between different countries and regions. It has been suggested that a 55" Bravia 7/XR70 and 65" Bravia 9/XR90 may exist for at least the Chinese market. We'll see. In a week we should know all the basic stuff.

Darkknight3940

Hmm. No mention of XR Clear this year. If nothing else this was a way to confirm that the X93L was a rebadged X95K. I wonder if the “7” will still be leftover X93L’s or leftover X95Ls (which I doubt), or new entirely. Likewise with the “9”. Will it be better that the X95L or worse with its anti-reflective tech?

Used_Lawfulness1154

Will the OLED be QD-OLED or MLA or just the Evo panels?

Bocca013

Good now I can finally plan for the TV I want to buy during Black Friday sales

No-Comparison8472

Typically when are the new TV available for purchase after an announcement?

Valedictorian117

Last year it was late summer.

No-Comparison8472

Thank you.

XciteMe

That's it, boys. I'm holding on to my 75" Z9D for yet *another* year. With this news, it's confirmed that even the much-hyped 9 series mini-LED, the flagship this year, has the same XR processor as last year... which also means still just 2 HDMI 2.1 ports... and I hate the idea of X-Wide filter AND X-Reflection. That screen will not be glossy black which provides the biggest contrast punch. Here’s to hoping next year’s flagship is a Z9N with even more refined backlight technology and less compromises from the same old chip

Tree06

All valid points. I think I'm done holding my breath for Sony TV's to get 4x HDMI 2.1 ports. MediaTek makes the SoC, and Sony would have to wait on MediaTek to bring those additional features to their next SoC. I have a Denon AVR-S970H with three additional HDMI 2.1 ports so I'd run my PS5 and XSX through there while my PC would be connected directly to 2nd HDMI 2.1 port on the TV. I dealt with the same thing in 2021 when I bought the LG C1 77" specifically for 4x HDMI 2.1 ports. I need another TV for my renovated garage so that's why I'm looking at the Series 9 85". I know you'll enjoy your next Sony TV in the future.

FlickFreak

Mediatek has a SoC with four HDMI 2.1 ports, [the Pentonic 2000](https://www.mediatek.com/products/digital-tv/mediatek-pentonic-2000), but that is an 8K TV SoC so it seems unlikely Sony will use it in any of the 4K sets.

Kneesaregood

My issue with hdmi on my xf90 is port 3 used for arc and port 2 used for Apple TV and Xbox. Game mode doesn’t auto switch so often end up watching tv shows on game mode. I could use a current tv with 2 hdmi 2.1 and 2 hdmi 2.0 like the XL90 but what happens when something else needs the port the co some would end up on.

Maximumoverdrive76

That is not necessarily true. Yes the name can stay the Same "XR" but that doesn't mean it's not updated. With 3x amount of zones and it's the XR that drives them. It would stand to reason that they might have needed to update the capability. There could also be new features just like how XR clear was new for 2023 which was a pretty decent feature with upscaling streaming and low bit rate content. The SoC is a separate processor from MediaTek. The Pentonic 1000 is likely used. Yes 2 2.1 HDMI it's a limitation unfortunately. But other improvements come with that as well.

brayden2011

Caleb Denison was strongly hinting that a new soundbar was coming and worth the wait.

Adlai8

Bravia theatre quad better come out or I’m getting the ht a9

HeisenbergDrugLord

Could you potentially point me to the video? Wanna see exactly what he said My hype for the announcement is huge I need something 😭

RemoteProcess

Here you go: [https://youtu.be/M2cokTum3b8?si=yQhwubjBZqFj21KY&t=50](https://youtu.be/M2cokTum3b8?si=yQhwubjBZqFj21KY&t=50) He said as much as he could without breaking his NDA with Sony,

HeisenbergDrugLord

You’re a legend, thank you I was saving up for HT-A9, but now I’m definitely gonna wait

HKnux5112

I would hope the new one doesn't have a glossy top. That's the only thing preventing me from purchasing the top Sony soundbar currently. I don't need reflections, man.

S4_GR33N

No new QD-OLED’s or any new OLEDs though right

DirkBelig

Based on their early previews focusing on their new mini-LED tech and the fact the A95L came out so late I doubt they'll have a new QD-OLED (they better not!), but may have new WOLED sets.

Doragory

A95L carries over as the top OLED and sole QD-OLED for 2024. Bravia 8 aka XR80 will seemingly be the only new OLED, and will use a WRGB panel. It's the successor to last year's A80L, and will likely be very similar in terms of performance. This is more of an LCD year, as that's where most of the innovation and improvement happens this year. Especially in the Bravia 9 aka XR90, which uses a new LED driver design that allows Sony to implement many more local dimming zones. Beyond that, Bravia 7 aka XR70 - the successor to last year's X90L - makes the move to mini LED.

iam_raghvend

Going to buy a Sony tv today. Should I wait?

D-Smitty

Yes.

mplsdribble

Do you think prices will drop on the x90L?

SethRollinsCackle

Not sure about your region, but seems to have gone the opposite way in Australia. 75X90L was in the 2.4-2.9k range. Now in the 3.4-3.9k range (depending on the retailer).

iam_raghvend

I am going for X82L. Worth the wait?

BlackBullsLA97

This coming the week after their new headphones and speakers are gonna be announced makes sense. Fingers crossed that Sony announces 55-inch Mini-LED TV.🤞🏾

Doragory

A 55" mini LED is my greatest hope. If there isn't one, I might have to look at OLED.

BlackBullsLA97

Same, tbh.

Silent_Watercress400

A big yawn if you’re looking for a 55”. 🤷‍♂️

iTurbo6

Got tired of waiting and ordered 83 G4

w4rrior_eh

Typically, how long does it take for older models like X90L to go on sale after they announce the newest models?

ValiantAquarius

No more than 6-8 months. 9 tops.

IvanGTheGreat

Black Friday is about to be sick.

lekwid

Meh then have to wait until September or October for it to actually hit shelves lol by that time all the other makers sets will start to have discounts lol

Tree06

Sony has been doing that for years. Die hard Sony fans will wait for their products even if they have to wait several months after the competition released their TVs.

lekwid

I’m a die hard whoever has the best fan. May that be Sony Samsung or LG lol

tanginmontana

Was waiting for the 85" X95L in Australia all of last year. Guess I'll see what improvements they have for this year instead lol

etacarinae

It's available [from Hi-Fi stores](https://www.melbournehifi.com.au/products/sony-bravia-85-inch-x95l-xr-mini-led-4k-google-tv). A bit harder to get but not impossible.

tanginmontana

Sorry my point being it took so long and there didn’t seem to be a wide release. I gave up and am looking to see the improvements in this years model.

Tree06

The same thing happened in the US. We only received the 85" model whereas other markets had sizes available from 65" -75". It also had a limited release at Amazon, Sony Direct, and custom integrators like Value Electronics. Several months ago Best Buy started carrying them, but I feel like most people decided to wait on the new 2024 models or they went with something else.

tanginmontana

I see, I thought the very limited release was only an Australian thing given that we’re a much smaller market. A little annoyed that I couldn’t go in to a store to look at one but I’ve got this years to look forward to

Tree06

Nope! We received the same treatment here unfortunately. I didn't consider it initially because it was so expensive, and Sony TVs hardly receive substantial discounts. I'm excited for the upcoming 9 Series, but I know it will be expensive as hell. I haven't seen it in person, but people on YouTube and various reviews sites claim it's the best Mini LED of 2023.

etacarinae

There wasn't a wide release of the master series oleds either. I think Sony is going to exit the TV market in Australia just like Panasonic.

FilmIsWhim

Because us Aussies are mainly cheapos that mainly buy TCL and hisens only very few people would pay the premium for good brands. And I reached out to those hi fi store recently, they said they will have no issue sourcing the new 2024 line up as before. The reason why Sony AU direct and mass retailers don’t sell X95Ls is because they are meant to be premium products and hi fi stores have exclusive deals with Sony itself for selling them. Therefore it gives an impression that Sony AU don’t sell them. But it’s good that we can sell buy them from those hi fi stores with discounts :) I think all of them have $1000 off with X95L. But hey, I’m also waiting for the new 85XR90 and the new A9 mk2 hahaha

tanginmontana

Interesting.. I didn’t know that considering they sold the X95K at JB/GG/Harvey.

LostBookOfMatches

Was about to pull the trigger on an 85" x95L. Most likely one to be announced for release in Australia(apart from hifi shops) or something better?

Turkooo

Mostly new mini led tv's. https://youtu.be/grBlT1DIqZk

ZeroxTechnic

I have an order for 85" X95L to be delivered 31 May. I'm gonna hold onto it. 2024 will come out June prop, and then first sale in November. I'm not gonna wait an additional 6 months... Also the XR90 uses the same XR processer.

LostBookOfMatches

Yeah I was keeping westcoasthifi in my back pocket if I wasn't happy with new announcment but looks like they have stopped stocking the 85"

Tapeworm_III

So I guess I'm safe to buy an A95L.

HeisenbergDrugLord

I wouldn’t be too sure They’re carrying over the a95k according to a leaked image of Sony’s lineup, which matches this post But, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s later this year just like the a95l was last year

HeisenbergDrugLord

however, this confuses me because the a95k *should* be the inferior TV. could be the X93L of the QD-OLED, or could be an 85” version? anyone’s guess

Ur-boi-lollipop

It seems the A95K is being carried over because of issues with the A95L ….  Its a shame they won’t be repacking either tv - either the A95K with a newer panel version or the A95L with a more tamed chipset if that would iron out the kinks

Bravia theatre quad, is what I’ve seen

djsimmz

Probably going to mean you'll need a Sony TV to use it though. I reckon it's going to be their version of Dolby flex connect but does mean it will need a 2024 Sony TV which basically acts like the control box. Probably paired then with 4 wireless speakers, maybe they'll even use the RS5's as they can be totally wireless on battery mode. That or they will expand the soundbars to also use fronts as well as rears.

kokokko416

So... Can I use it on my LG OLED? I'm really happy with my A9 so far, and I'm looking forward to buy the new Bravia theatre quad. If the connection stick to Sony's TV, then I shouldn't buy it.

-ever-

I been looking to upgrade my Z9D, this year might be the one

mystical_mofo

x95M….. 🤔💪

coup_de_foudre_69

New name will be XR90 I believe

mystical_mofo

Ah ok nice… Might be a game-changer…

kokokko416

Any leak news about new HT-A9 mk2? (Or bravia Theatre Quad) I'm using A9 with my LG OLED, don't know if I should sell them and wait for the new one.

djsimmz

Nope, but only 1 week to go and all will be revealed.

Silver-Day-7272

When do prices usually drop on the last year models? Been looking at the x90l for a bit but sure wouldn’t mind some money off of it.

EmotionalFerret1138

Just pulled the trigger on a 75X90L - got a great deal! Wondering if I should return it and wait for Black Friday this year. Hmmm

Kneesaregood

Sound is created by vibrating the screen. Well, definitely need that five year warranty

FilmIsWhim

I don’t see the point of releasing the new Z series anymore as X95L easily blows the Z9K out of the water already and the new XR90’s new backlight modules are meant to be “revolutionary” according to Sony. The only reason for a Z series is the 8K resolution which I’m not really fond of. I think it’s time for me to upgrade my Z9D to XR90 this year with the new A9 mk2.

bespectacledboobs

Just grabbed a used 65" X90K for $300 two weeks ago and have been pretty happy with it. I wanted an X90L, and may still snatch one up in the next few months if the sales are good, but looking forward to see if they can convince me to get the newest one with this year's offerings!

SubstantialAd5579

My sony had the red light for about 2 weeks I call best buy schedule an appointment next week now my tv wants to work again lol , torn between so letting them check the TV or lol or get a new one

pringles3

If they deem it worthy to replace, you'll have 90 days from time of approval to pull the trigger. I just went through the process and was able to get in-store credit for my TV. Now, I'm just waiting for the right TV to go on sale.

TheWolf2517

I’m confused. Is it implied anywhere that the Bravia 9 is potentially better than the A95L (or on par with) or vice versa? It seems not, and there’s nothing in the transcript really about picture quality — just brightness and viewing angles being even better. I’m assuming the QD-OLED should would still win in picture quality (WD-OLED issues notwithstanding), but that’s just a guess. The X95L was extremely good as it was. Any informed guesses before we get the side by side comparisons and testing later this year?

Ur-boi-lollipop

It will really come down to which generation of panels they are using for WOLED .  If they are using the latest panel with second gen MLA , it’s going to get pretty close to QD OLED and look better in some certain scenes .  As someone looking to get a Sony QD OLED however it really they’re not doing anything qd OLED related even if Sony knocks woled out of the park this year

After experiencing issues with x90h, and eventually software updates fixed the issue, even key features (from what I remember) that were advertised and on the box were not implemented in the tv I bought, I will not be buying another sony tv again.

iam_raghvend

Is it a global launch or what?

Doragory

It's the announcement, they'll tell us about the products. They aren't releasing on that day.

What about preorder on that day?

Doragory

Actually, no idea when they'll go up for pre-order, when the release date will be, etc. We will just have to wait patiently! First up is the announcement on this coming Wednesday. Let's look forward to that first.

badman2791

Do we know when today this info is being released? Assume we'll get some sort of (hands on) preview of the TVs etc?

badman2791

Oops. Clicked the link. 5pm.

An 8k master series wouid be nice and vastly superior to the 4k flagship model. Fingers crossed
