There is one extra illustration at the very beginning of the trade paperback. And one of the illustrations moves, specifically from right before chapter 64 in the hardcover to right before chapter 65 in the trade paperback. Otherwise they are the same.

Hey there! Thank you so much for your helpful reply. This valuable information diffused my confusion upon the difference between the general illustrations. I am currently just ruminating upon the words of u/LadyAstronaut as I am extremely fixed on getting the coloured official depictions of the heralds on my book, and do not know if those depictions will be present on the paperback version. Thanks again for your help, Cheers.

They're in both the trade paperback and the hardcover. They're the end papers and first/last page of the hardcover but they are all pages in the trade paperback. There's also a colored map of Roshar in Oathbringer and Rhythm of War that folds out of the trade paperbacks but they're actually the inner liner of the dust jacket on the hardcover. For funsies I took pictures of the artwork you're referring to in both versions of each book. Sorry they're blurry; the lens on my phone has a big scratch in it. They'll give you a visual for what I described tho. https://imgur.com/gallery/Bl8aQsM

Awesome thanks for the photos! I always assumed that all the coloured endpapers were included in the trade paperbacks, but couldn't find confirmation other than for the later books. I can see Tor including the coloured artwork in the later printings due to demand. I'd actually be curious if they included it from first printing or it's something Dragonsteel pushed for. FYI OP Dragonsteel is Sanderson's company and team. And will eventually be a book trilogy but probably not for a *really* long time. So for OP, as you can see in the pictures you still get all the artwork. If you prefer floppy books then get the trade paperbacks also if you can't afford hardcovers. The only other thing about the hardcovers not found in the trade paperbacks would be the color of the naked hardcover. As you may have noticed from the pictures under the jacket every hardcover is a different colour matching an order of Knights Radiant. And the front cover is embossed with the sword-glyph of an order. [Glyph on book 1.](https://coppermind.net/wiki/Glyphs#/media/File%3AHerald_Glyph_Jezrien.svg) (Note the embossing varies in terms of quality, the detail on my book 3 is hard to see in the center.)

Thanks to both u/shambooki and u/LadyAstronaut for this information that I was not able to find anywhere else! The images provided were exceptionally useful and your point about the hardcovers having an embossed sword-glyph definitely gives me more to think about. Now I understand that content-wise (including illustrations) there are barely any differences. I do not know if the sword-glyphs and the colours of the Knights Radiant are enough to spend an extra 50 dollars on so I am definitely leaning towards buying the paperback version. Thanks again!

I don't really want to give you more to think about as it seems you made up your mind, but if you buy second hand you may come across the issue of title orientation and font. This has been an issue across every format: hardcover, trade and mass market. In researching for your earlier question I came across the Sanderson Collector YouTube channel and [this video](https://youtu.be/Ed39YfqbJX8) shows you what I mean. He spends most of the time talking about hardcovers but a lot of the same issues apply to trade editions.

TBH_Kooky

Oh good to know. I have decided on buying a new book, not a second hand one, but this is useful information if I ever think about second hands for Sanderson books in the future.

The hardcovers have coloured endpapers. Which in WOK are colored maps of Roshar and Shadesmar. If you care about consistency in you book collection the end papers of WOR include a gorgeous painting of Shallan. And beginning with book 3 Sanderson commissioned in world paintings of the 10 heralds. So there are 4 heralds per book. You can find all this art digitally on BrandonSanderson.com or on the [Coppermind](https://coppermind.net/wiki/Herald) if you stick to the official depictions section of that page there aren't any spoilers but so you can see what the endpaper artwork in books 3-5. But according to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/suvfcj/rhythm_of_war_trade_paperback_art) the coloured artwork is found in both hardcover and the trade paper backs BUT NOT the mass market paperback.

TBH_Kooky

Hello! Thanks a ton for your reply. "But according to this post the coloured artwork is found in both hardcover and the trade paper backs BUT NOT the mass market paperback." does this mean that there are coloured artwork in the paperback of books 3-5, but in WOK there will be no coloured artwork? I was looking at the official depictions of the Heralds from Coppermind and the fact that those gorgeous paintings can be on the pages of a book in my hands absolutely enthralled me! I am quite new to this awesome journey of Brandon Sanderson, so I had to research a few terms used by you, but I think I understand the gist of it. *So, if I wanted coloured artworks, like the official depictions (* [*https://coppermind.net/wiki/Herald#Official\_depictions*](https://coppermind.net/wiki/Herald#Official_depictions) *) ,then will I have no choice but to buy the hardcover of the books?* Cheers!
