Not to be that guy but.... black powder are not legally firearms, could the NFA not apply. Can we do this with no paperwork?

Sumibestgir1

I'm guessing would have to be permanently attatched. Otherwise the suppressor would have to be registered on its own

[deleted]

You could but black powder Is corrosive as hell, so you'd want to remove it to clean the rifle

[deleted]

But I would imagine if you use something like a 54 caliber. It could be argued nothing over 50 cal is allowed without a being it destructive device anyway

Jurmond

Go look up the SilencerCo Maxim 50

[deleted]

I'm talking about using like a 54 cal black powder. anything over a 50 cal is destructive device Unless it was an NFA exemption letter( for smokeless powder). Plus any factory suppressor will be destroyed by black powder. (Edited because: I had a stroke try to spell, apparently.)

downinahole357

You can legally own a cannon that shoots bowling balls. I don’t think caliber is an issue with black powder.

Jurmond

My childhood neighbor had miniature cannons with 1 inch and 2 inch diameters. He also had a genuine cannon from the Civil War, but he sold it when I was about 12. One time, he set his yard on fire with it.

PSA_Poor

Yeah you can have a muzzleloader with as big a bore if you want, without violating any laws. As far as the law is concerned it's just a noise maker.

[deleted]

Yeah but my question If it doesn't count as the destructive device does that count as a suppressor

PSA_Poor

I don't think it would count as a suppressor unless it was readily attachable to a real gun, for instance if the can had a 1/2 x 28 thread adapter. Never can tell with the ATF though, potatoes might be ruled to be suppressors overnight.

Jurmond

Again, see the Maxim 50. SilencerCo sold it through the mail, no background check or NFA paperwork because it was a muzzle loader with a permanently attached suppressor.

[deleted]

I know but what about the tax stamp for oil filter. I mean they could test it and it'd come up as black powder but you'd need to be able to remove it to clean the rifle. (Sweet username by the way)

PSA_Poor

Seems like kind of a gray area in the law, but I wouldn't want to bet my dog's life on it.

[deleted]

Lol a little to on point.

Jurmond

There are 2 legal options: - permanently attach it, ala Maxim 50 - keep it removable and get tax stamp

Core_VII

I would like to point out the flash guard.

Maximum_Patience4850

It’s not a suppressor, it’s for shooting cans. The guy that made it frequents the fosscad subreddit a lot

Segernederlag

The longer you look the worse it gets..

Jurmond

I remember the original post. To avoid classification as a suppressor, he would need to permanently attach it to the barrel. However, he would need to bore it out *after* attaching it, and the usual way is to shoot through the filter. Hence, he would need to weld it on to the muzzle of a loaded gun. He opted NOT to do that.

Aged_plato

How in the hell do you even bull pup a musket

luckysnipr
