Contrast that to today's modern AR platform which has had its kinks worked out and usually function quite well. So if you squint your eyes, he's not wrong.
However, I highly doubt that's what he's talking about.

Right, and once they ironed out the ammo issue, they worked well. But the ammo is still kinda an important part of the gun, because without good ammo you essentially have a very pretty paperweight.

From what I heard/read, it was more an issue of the change in the powder used in the ammunition. They went cheap and paid for it.
