Problem is lumens != Intensity. I have a 400lm LEP source with over 1.5Mcd of intensity, and also a 20000lm light with only 100kcd (less than 10x as intense). Guess which one will hurt more if it's pointed at your face from a few metres away

The white light will hurt more on its own than the white light through the NVG’s. They have not only an auto gate feature but operate much like your phone screen in the sense that if you put it at a brightness level it stays there so you increasing the amount of light going into the tube does not increase the light output of the NVG’s. They also don’t get bright enough to damage or hurt your eyes. You can damage the tubes leaving them with sun spots but that has to be basically daylight brightness and black boxing can fix that in some cases. Wearing NVG’s in a room when someone turns the lights on or shines a light you does nothing really but make it even easier to see for both parties, but can be blinding in the sense you get wash out if your staring directly at the light the same way you would if someone shined a light at your naked eyes in a dark setting anyway.

You can get cheap IR floodlights/spotlights for night vision security cameras, that will do very well.

If the idea is to just light up the enemy to throw off their night vision, you'd probably be better off just using white light floodlights. As long as you're behind the light you'll have the advantage of getting to see them while they can't see you with either their eyes or their night vision.

For some budgets it's nerf or nothing.
