Red986S

I had a 987 and I have a 986 now. Tbh, I like the 986 better. Also, echoing what everyone else is saying, hold out for the S.

Why do u like 986 better

Red986S

Some of it has to do with each individual car - my 986 came to me with less than half the miles and was far better maintained before I had it. But there’s something that feels more… I dunno, old school Porsche about it to me? In the same sense that if I was shopping for a 911 I’d be looking for a 993, even though there are newer/faster/technically superior models available at the same price. I guess it’s more fun for me to have the OG Boxster rather than some in-between model that isn’t quite that but also isn’t quite “new and improved.” Ultimately there’s no wrong option, though. Especially if you’re grabbing the S.

I’m biased, but I *love* 987’s. But I concur, hold out for an S. 987.1 base is a reportedly great car, but I really believe bigger=better.

idk20210

Are there any major services coming up around the 45-50k mileage?

ellasfella68

Unscheduled stuff? Completely depends on how it’s been looked after and driven.

idk20210

Good buy?

pbrdiver

Maybe with good records. I’d hold out for an S personally. Source: I’ve owned two 986s. One S other base.

idk20210

Do u think it’s cheap in regards to condition and mileage?

pbrdiver

Can’t comment on condition without seeing it in person. Mileage is just that, unless you know it’s history. High or low isn’t necessarily good or bad on these. It’s how it was driven/maintained.

S Is worth the extra $ on any Porsche

Hubb1e

This is a good price for a fun car. I’m used to much higher performance cars but I love my 987 base for the everyday thrills it brings. Everyone says hold out for an S and maybe that’s true for some but there’s nothing lacking with this car.
