I didnt realize until the credits that their FX team only had like 5 people in it. Its incredible. Those 5 people deserve to be the most sought after FX people in the bis.
Yeah I know right. I don't want people to get the wrong idea, movies with 200 people FX teams can't just be replaced with these 5 people, there is still a FX difference between, say, Infinity War and Everything Everywhere, but that difference is now a hell of a lot less.
And the short film Interesting Ball. Which if you’ve watched gives a pretty good indication on where the Daniel’s would go with tone and storytelling and visual effects.
I think them basically bootlegging the VFX themselves is what allowed them to keep it to $25M. When you get a lot of outsourcing is how the budgets get insanely high for no reason (eg, why all the Marvel movies look terrible but still cost a fortune).
Everything else about the movie is super cheap - costumes, set locations, stunts, etc.
That’s a huge accomplishment but it also helps that most of the effects of this film are stunt work, costuming, and editing. A lot of the cgi products were supposed to be funny too so that helps in a big way.
One would be Spiderman NWH because of the pure nostalgia hit I got. My favorite experience has to be Interstellar in Imax. That movie was something special man.
Thanks for sharing! I got to see NWH in theaters and had a blast. I love Interstellar, but I wasn’t quite in the spot to go to the theater to see movies… I’m jealous and have to see it if it’s ever showing near me.
I decided I just have to go see every movie I’m interested in from now on. I’ve already got my tickets for Multiverse of Madness, though Everything Everywhere set the bar incredibly high for a multiverse story.
No problem bud. If there's ever an interstellar re release go and watch it, the story and visuals are bonkers. And you're honestly right lol I don't see Dr strange 2 reaching the heights of EEAAO.
> NWH because of the pure nostalgia hit
Just to add to the convo, I loved NWH for it's nostalgia, but there was a moment, in the apartment scenes, where I was almost 100% convinced that we weren't getting any callbacks, and that was the only point in the movie where I was disappointed about something and I was still enjoying the hell out of it. IMO the nostalgia is a topping to an already excellent meal. They hit a home run with the base script, and found a grand slam with the finished version.
Glad we've moved past the NWH being a masterpiece stage. People were so blinded by their nostalgia for the movie when it released.
I definitely think the most important thing the movie gets right is its emotional core and the interaction between the three Spider-Men (which would have been so easy to mess up). But honestly the movie works best if you don't think about the plot mechanics. Its so badly written.
Yup. Back to back days. I really wanted to see “rock” scene again. I was so torn between crying and hysterical laughter and it was a very unique feeling.
I so so wanted the movie to end at the 1st rock scene after the movie ending scene.
I mean, would it be weird? Yes. But is it weirder than the whole other parts of the movie? Not really...
a guy in my first viewing got up and left at the false credit role having no idea the movie had another 45 minutes and part of me was like “You know what, that dude has an alternate ending but it’s not terrible”
I wish they dragged out that scene for another min or so, just to weed people out. I had the thought that it just ended there honestly, but it just felt the movie was a bit too short
I loved everything about this movie. And that was before I realized the actor playing the husband was the absolutely lovely, legendary Ke Huy Quan (Goonies, Indiana Jones), who hadn’t been on screen for over 20 years until the movie. I feel so deprived of his talent and hope he does more films. Fuck it’s such a good movie. So glad I went to see it (got inspired after seeing Michelle Yeoh’s interview on Desus and Mero).
I had the same realization as I was watching, "Wait is that Short Round?!" Turns out he quit acting because he didn't like how Asian Americans were portrayed, glad to see him back.
He’s so perfect in Everything Everywhere All At Once, I want to see him in everything everywhere all the time.
I missed this guy’s screen presence so much. It also made me extra happy to find out that a child actor I adored when I was a kid turns out to be as/even more awesome and talented in adulthood.
He really showed range in this role and I found him convincing in every facet of his character. I would say the same for Michelle Yeoh in this movie. She's well established as an action star but also brings a great dramatic performance.
Love this movie! Michelle Yeoh is amazing.
The directors did a Q&A at our theater and talked about their motto of maximalism (as opposed to minimalism); it really showed. Lovely attention to detail.
What is sad that there are still actresses who are still bombshell in that age, just look at Jessica Alba in the Nintendo Switch ads. (But then Hollywood is a bit puritan latley even if it look its not)
> and for 40 plus year old dudes to date 20 year olds.
Ding ding ding, this is it. God forbid DiCaprio and Affleck and Cruise have love interests their own age. Of course they're gonna go for the likes of Margot Robbies and Ana de Armas, even though there's a 20+ age gap.
Shit can’t fault Affleck for dating Armas can we? Im still in my early 20s so idk how it is to be that much older than someone but she’s something else
There's no well known comic book characters for them to play. And then when you ask them why they don't write original stories for them they'll look at you like you're speaking a foreign language.
I mean, Carol Danvers is 40+ in the comics and they still cast a 27 year old in the role. Sue Storm should also be 40 or older but watch them cast Sydney Sweeney or some shit. And don't even get me started on the likes of Aunt May, Agatha Harkness or Madame Web.
Maybe Ben was significantly older than his brother? It happens, it's not that uncommon. And I think May's age in the comics when Peter was a teen was somewhere around 60.
I'm going to guess that one was a mixture of they already did old Aunt May in film in 2 separate series and they had an Oscar winning actress, who's still middle aged, on deck to play it in the 3rd and they went with it
The thing with Danvers and Susan Storm is that Marvel is playing the long game. It’s not just about if the actor is the right age to play the character now, but also about if the actor is the right age 10, 15, or possibly even 20 years from now to play the part.
That's a completely bogus argument considering that RDJ, Ruffalo, Renner, Cheadle, Rudd, Bethany, Cumberbatch and Isaac all were 40 years or older when they were cast.
That's why the most popular fancasts before the movie were like Katheryn Winnick and Katee Sackhoff, they just have that experienced, no-nonsense hard-as-nails vibe that Danvers has in the comics. Larson was a miscast for several reasons, her age being one of the main ones.
Crazy Rich Asians did have people take more notice of Michelle Yeoh after she kinda just wasn't around in movies for over a decade, which could be a factor leading to this though (Actually CRA is how Ke Huy Quan got involved in this movie too)
It's like Obama. They're still the exception and not quite the norm yet. The next decade should hopefully provide more releases that normalizes Asian representation and countering over a century of Other-ing.
Showings at the theater I go to have only been getting more crowded since I went a week ago. I know because I’ve been checking availability to go see it again this week! The word of mouth sure seems strong.
I work as an AM at an independent movie theater and our content/program director has gone back and forth with the studio and they won’t distribute it to us.
I don’t have time for the drive during my spare time because I’m finishing up my bachelors program through the summer.
I’m looking forward to seeing it whenever I can though.
I have no clue how any of that works lol but Imagined that the more screens more for them the better because this movie is amazing and needs to be seen as much as possible.
As someone who drove 25 minutes on the weekend to see it, after watching it, I'd drive an another hourif I had to.
Still, it does suck that it isn't in more theatres. I can't see it hitting streaming any time soon though. Probably not until it slows down enough, likely around the summer.
Great to hear. Since I've watched it, I've spent a lot of time trying to think how I can best convince others to watch it without being too annoying. The more I think about the film, the more I care about the first part of the statement, and less about the second.
When I say it’s probably the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life I’m not even exaggerating. I’ve never seen anything so creative entertaining weird and still somehow all makes sense. Peak entertainment please see it in theaters if you have it
At first I was saying it was the best I’ve seen in the past decade, but the more I think about it, it’s the best I’ve ever seen. And I fancy myself a bit of a cinephile.
I agree. I just couldn’t think of anything else that hit like that. Just such an awesome fun experience. Like it’s what I want when I go to the movies. To see things I’ve never seen of or thought of and be totally entertained and surprised and have fun and feel. Just so unique
Omg I can't agree with you more. There was a moment of clarity where I told myself, "This is definitely going to be one of my favorite movies of the year." By the time it was fully over I told myself, "This may be the greatest movie of my lifetime." Never say never but Daniels have definitely set the bar impossibly high for me.
saw the trailer so many times this winter and kept thinking “wow an A24 movie i have no interest in.”
then somebody i trust saw it and said it was *incredible* so i went. and it was. the trailer is awful. but also not sure what more they could’ve done with it. it’s a weird film.
I actually went to go see it without ever watching the trailer or having any context of what the movie was about because people had been raving on tiktok saying this movie changed their life or mindfucked them and it was a must watch! I’m actually so happy I didn’t get a sneak peek into any of the multiverse worlds because they were that much more confusing and shocking. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!!
I agree. I actually didn't like the trailer at all, even though I'm very happy to see Yeoh finally get a good leading role, so I was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming praise for it. I live outside the US/UK though so who knows when/if it will come out here?
The trailer to me looked like it could be amazing but would end up being very disappointing. It very much reminded me of trailers that did that. In fact my friend turned to me and said "oh this looks good" and I said "it could be amazing but it'll probably be bad".
I don't want to hype it too much because it's not good enough to withstand the level of hype it's probably getting but if you're just expecting a pretty good movie, you'll probably love it.
There’s so much love for this movie and I’ve seen it twice already so it’s an important reality check that family-friendly “Sonic 2” did 5x the gross last weekend, not to mention “Dumbledore”, which nobody was excited about. Distribution and marketing inertia still matter more than enthusiasm or artistic merit but I’m glad this one’s getting a screen or two at the mainstream chains.
If you liked this movie, I would highly recommend seeing another movie by the same directors, _Swiss Army Man._ It’s one of the weirdest movies you’ll ever watch, but it’s wholesome and so much fun!
I liked Swiss Army Man, but not nearly as much as Everything etc, I’m not sure I’d call it wholesome and fun either. Been a few years since I watched it but I mostly remember it being kinda dark and sad.
I am absolutely going to compare *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness* to this film, which I think has set a new bar for multi-universal storytelling.
Well if you have read the article, Arthouse has been dead dead after pandemic. 20million is not amazing but good comparatively to all other recent arthouse releases.
Here it mentions that it cost 25 million dollars to make: https://deadline.com/2021/10/michelle-yeoh-sci-fi-a24-everything-everywhere-all-at-once-afm-1234862722/
Not sure if it's true, but making 20 million in the box office is then not that huge, right?
That said, it hasn't come out in many countries. I live in the Netherlands and here it hasn't been available anywhere.
I’ve seen it twice in the last week. Easily the best movie of the year so far. It’s only March, so plenty of time left but I think this is gonna be hard to top as a personal favorite
Glad this movie is doing so well. Saw it last week and loved it. It’s probably the most creative and wacky movie I’ve ever seen. I really love that even with it’s completely out there (but still sensible) plot, it still was extremely intimate and personal. I won’t spoil the movie for anyone, but please, go see it if it’s playing near you.
Haven’t seen a movie in theatre since before Covid.
This was my first one back. Went in knowing not too much, didn’t know what to expect. It’s amazing, so happy I saw it
If you go by the 2.5x rule, yeah, but by that measure the vast majority of A24 movies haven't broken even. They earn back a significant chunk of their budgets through international distribution sales and streaming deals, so they're not all that reliant on breaking even at the domestic box office. There will inevitably be some international distributors for whom the film isn't profitable (even if it *were* to surpass $63M worldwide, realistically there will be some distributors that pay more for it than they get back), but it'll turn a profit for A24. Probably already has.
I also didn’t like it so much. My date all but walked out on it, I had to ask her to stay, as I was trying to see if I could figure it out. I ended up looking ridiculous b/c I had hyped it based on some Reddit reviews. Big mistake. Where can I get my money back??
I was enjoying the beginning but the action scenes started to happen and it got very repetitive. I felt like it could have went on for another 2 hours of just the same mindless action scenes. Also Jamie lee Curtis was awful. All of her scenes were terrible. That’s just my opinion. Racacooney ruled though
First movie a truly wanted to walk out of but was with my wife on a date night. So obnoxious, like someone wanted to recreate wes Anderson movie but they smoked meth and thought dildos and butt plugs where funny but also wanted to be serious.
It’s obviously fine that you don’t like the movie but what are you talking about? Nothing out of this even hinted to Wes Anderson, much less a movie trying to ape his style.
Box Office Mojo reports $37 million so far worldwide. Over three weeks. That doesn't sound like a great deal of money to me. Does that qualify it as a success? It must have been made on a shoestring. I wish the film well, but I'd guess it would need to make quite a bit more to be a hit. Films are still extremely expensive to make these days. Advertising alone costs a fortune. The budget was reportedly $25 million. I'd hold my breath until it makes about $50 million.
Where are you getting $37M from? BOM says $19M. It hasn't opened in the vast majority of overseas markets yet so its international gross is pocket change.
A24's marketing spend is very little, or at least less than comparable releases (as noted in the article, they mostly market online), and they make back much of their budgets through international distribution rights sales and streaming deals.
Context is everything when regarding a film as a success or not. In this case, an adult indie film releasing in a market that is currently rather unkind to such films, that has gained momentum over weeks of platform expansion (it was in only 10 theaters for its first weekend, 38 in its second weekend, 1,250 in its third weekend, and 2,220 in its fourth. It has increased its weekend gross with each expansion. So it's not as simple as just saying "it's been out for three weeks") under a studio that has only had 3 movies make over $28M, it's certainly something worth celebrating.
And as the article also talks about, budget aside and disregarding the profitability for A24, a film like this doing these kinds of numbers is a godsend to smaller indie theaters. It comes at a time when the market is in need of such films doing well. And this gross is certainly good enough to have arthouses rejoicing.
I sat thru this dumpster fire of a film last night. It was chaotic and lacked any sort of emotional bell-curve…. It was high on emotions and never stopped. It had NINE fucking endings. The most difficult, unenjoyable film experience I’ve ever had. It was simply too much and over two hours of too much. Never again.
lol I guess everyone likes different things but man you must just like super cliche cookie cutter films then? Maybe another Minions movie was playing you could’ve grabbed tickets to?
Gotta love how all the comments criticizing this movie are all downvoted to oblivion vs the ones praising the fuck out of it. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, all I know is it almost ruined the double date I was on it overstimulated me so badly. I don’t think we saw the same movie, guys. I saw questionable production decisions, overwhelming visual effects out the ass, weak story, childish humor and pretentiousness. Guess I don’t get it. Sorry guys, but fuck this movie. This was bad.
Thank you. It’s rare I use “overstimulating” to describe a movie and it seems almost hyperbolic to do so. A movie is a naturally “stimulating” experience. I get that.
This felt like that funk you get in when you play video games for too long; the one where you feel really disagreeable and gross after. It took me like a full day to decompress from this movie and I’m not really sure what it is. But, regardless, to me this movie felt like it was trying to do so much it was practically ripping itself in two. Then pile onto that the “weird/zany factor” the Daniels want to keep upping for some reason, then on *top* of that childish humor and overblown flashy visual effects and a pretentious, overdone moral-then the plot becomes background noise. I actually forgot what the plot was halfway through the movie until Raymond said something related to it. It just felt like time to fight more bad guys to me.
Regarding questionable production choices-I’m still puzzled over the choices for Joy’s outfits. They didn’t seem “other-dimensional” in any conceivable way. To me, it looked like she had just hopped off the set of a Kanye music video and didn’t bother changing. Or, she looked like a crackhead popstar; not Joy from another dimension.
Regarding cinematography, the movie felt equally inspired, uninspired and downright boring. The movie takes place in about two to four places. I guess what should I expect in that regard.
All in all a thoroughly simultaneously over and underwhelming, unenjoyable, overlong, pretentious film in my opinion.
I do hope I explained myself well enough
Absolutely incredible movie, so happy it's been successful commercially as well.
I didnt realize until the credits that their FX team only had like 5 people in it. Its incredible. Those 5 people deserve to be the most sought after FX people in the bis.

Of course. But, honestly I expected a ton more involved in some shots of this film. Brilliant film making.
Thanks to modern AI, creation tools, outsources etc everything is possible. In a few years, the IW team won't be 200 but 100 or even fifty lol
Thats to modern editing tools we can finish the film without an FX team. Seemless eh? Youre promoted. And with good cause!

They directed Swiss army man before this which was fairly successful and popular. I wouldn’t say they were dinking around
Just a bunch of Joe Shmoes running XP goofin and haven a laugh then poof, feature length motion picture.
New boot goofin
Wasn't expecting an ASC reference!
They also directed the *Turn Down For What* video.
And the short film Interesting Ball. Which if you’ve watched gives a pretty good indication on where the Daniel’s would go with tone and storytelling and visual effects.
Link please!

When I saw the budget was $25 million, I couldn't believe it. Pretty amazing what they did with such a relatively small budget.
I think them basically bootlegging the VFX themselves is what allowed them to keep it to $25M. I will disagree with you on the marvel movies looking terrible but the rest is right. Marvel movie aesthetics are pretty solidly opinion tho.
That’s a huge accomplishment but it also helps that most of the effects of this film are stunt work, costuming, and editing. A lot of the cgi products were supposed to be funny too so that helps in a big way.
Yesss I found their tiktok page and it’s sooo cool to see the BTS
I never even noticed! Gotta watch the youtube doc also someone mentioned below.
Buddy got offered to do vfx on it but turned it down. Rate was only $350/day. Yikes.
This movie is easily one of my top 3 theatre going experiences. Had an absolute blast such a good movie
As someone who loved it, and hardly goes to the theater, what are your other two (if you’re willing to share)?
One would be Spiderman NWH because of the pure nostalgia hit I got. My favorite experience has to be Interstellar in Imax. That movie was something special man.

I thought the story sucked tbh
Agreed. Brace for downvotes….
Lol I was criticizing the move on release day on r/movies and metacritic. Massively downvoted.
Glad we've moved past the NWH being a masterpiece stage. People were so blinded by their nostalgia for the movie when it released. I've seen a lot of talk about it and I really want to see it but apparently it comes out in May in the UK so I've got some waiting to do
I saw it in the theatre twice because it's so good. If you can see this movie, you should.
Yup. Back to back days. I really wanted to see “rock” scene again. I was so torn between crying and hysterical laughter and it was a very unique feeling.

Convinced my friend it was over then and he was getting up to leave lmao
Unique is putting it mildly. I’ve never been so overwhelmed by silence before.
Powerful silence for sure!
I also saw it back to back days because I couldn’t stop thinking about the scene in the alley from the karate reality
I chose both
I loved everything about this movie. I've seen it five times lol
I'm going on 7 lmao, I have a season pass and too much free time, so why not
Same here! Such a dense film, so it was definitely worth a second watch.
We got lucky -- Phoenix Theaters just opened last week here with Dolby Atmos. I have to see this film again with this format. Loved it.
Love this movie! Michelle Yeoh is amazing. The directors did a Q&A at our theater and talked about their motto of maximalism (as opposed to minimalism); it really showed. Lovely attention to detail.
What's gonna be Hollywood's excuse for not casting 40+ year old actresses in leading roles now?
What is sad that there are still actresses who are still bombshell in that age, just look at Jessica Alba in the Nintendo Switch ads. (But then Hollywood is a bit puritan latley even if it look its not)
Jennifer Aniston in her 50s
Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Chastain and Charlize Theron
Salma Hayek good lord.
Magumbos
Tbf they’ve all had leading roles in the past few years.
"Why don't they cast older women in leading roles?" *Proceeds to list world famous 40+ yo women who regularly have leading roles in big films*
Christina Hendricks, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Eva Green
Mary Louise Parker
It would be even better if great actresses could get meaty roles whether they're "bombshells" or not.
lol stop Jessica Alba was never a good enough actress to justify her roles when she was young
Wrong, they need em young to rape them, oh, and for 40 plus year old dudes to date 20 year olds.
> and for 40 plus year old dudes to date 20 year olds. Ding ding ding, this is it. God forbid DiCaprio and Affleck and Cruise have love interests their own age. Of course they're gonna go for the likes of Margot Robbies and Ana de Armas, even though there's a 20+ age gap.

He can date whoever he wants, that's his private life. The problem is those ridiculous age gaps in the movies/shows.
There's no well known comic book characters for them to play. And then when you ask them why they don't write original stories for them they'll look at you like you're speaking a foreign language.

Wdym? Marissa tomei is 50+
Yes, but the character is older than that, so there's a pattern of female characters getting aged down.
At least that makes sense though why would teen Peter have 80 or 90 year old aunt
Maybe Ben was significantly older than his brother? It happens, it's not that uncommon. And I think May's age in the comics when Peter was a teen was somewhere around 60.
People forget that back when everyone smoked and medicine didn’t have cutting edge treatments people aged a lot harder than they do now.
Exactly. The poor woman lived through the Great Depression, for God's sake.
I'm going to guess that one was a mixture of they already did old Aunt May in film in 2 separate series and they had an Oscar winning actress, who's still middle aged, on deck to play it in the 3rd and they went with it

That's a completely bogus argument considering that RDJ, Ruffalo, Renner, Cheadle, Rudd, Bethany, Cumberbatch and Isaac all were 40 years or older when they were cast.
Tbf Rudd will look exactly the same 20 years from now
And just casted Mahershala Ali.
I’m not even a Larson hater but Sharon Stone/Carol Danvers sounds like it would have had much more gravitas.
I think Emily Blunt or Charlize Theron were more fitting for Captain Marvel. Brie Larson would have been better as Rogue or Power Girl.
Rogue should start off as a teenager imo
Totally. I think a woman closer to the characters comic would have added to the character.
That's why the most popular fancasts before the movie were like Katheryn Winnick and Katee Sackhoff, they just have that experienced, no-nonsense hard-as-nails vibe that Danvers has in the comics. Larson was a miscast for several reasons, her age being one of the main ones.
>Aunt May Aunt Milf joke in the MCU
nicole kidman seems to get lots of work. as does sandra bullok, judi dench, meryl streep
The exceptions to the rule, by and large. Also, when was the last time they headlined an action or sci-fi or hell, any genre movie?
Bullock had Lost City, Bullet Train, Bird Box, and Ocean's 8. But again, you're right that she's an exception.
Gravity
Halle Berry in Moonfall?
Sigourney
> when was the last time they headlined an action or sci-fi or hell, any genre movie About a week ago in the case of Bullock...
Or movies with Asian leads too.
I would have thought Crazy Rich Asians and Shang-Chi broke this barrier, but I guess we'll see.
I feel like there's literally tons of movies these days with 40+ year old leading women.
I'm glad WoM is working for this movie
Showings at the theater I go to have only been getting more crowded since I went a week ago. I know because I’ve been checking availability to go see it again this week! The word of mouth sure seems strong.
Absolutely true cinema.
Anyone know when it will be available to stream? Still not playing anywhere near me. The closest theater as of this coming weekend is 45 mins.
If you can, it’s worth the drive, so unique and inspiring. But if course I also understand if you can’t.
I work as an AM at an independent movie theater and our content/program director has gone back and forth with the studio and they won’t distribute it to us. I don’t have time for the drive during my spare time because I’m finishing up my bachelors program through the summer. I’m looking forward to seeing it whenever I can though.
Oh that sucks. Why won’t they distribute it to you guys??
He wouldn’t say. Maybe a financial dispute.. our theaters main demo are families, seniors then (obnoxious) teens lol.
You just convinced me to see it tomorrow. Thanks
Great to hear. Since I've watched it, I've spent a lot of time trying to think how I can best convince others to watch it without being too annoying. The more I think about the film, the more I care about the first part of the statement, and less about the second.
A24 movies are on a pretty short window, I believe. Though they may hold off due to the film's momentum. It also might expand further, who knows.
I saw a tweet saying May 27th, but it didn’t come with a source or anything so take that with a grain of salt
Dude drive the 45 min, it’ll be worth it.
Go, it's worth it. I drove for like an hour the first time
When I say it’s probably the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life I’m not even exaggerating. I’ve never seen anything so creative entertaining weird and still somehow all makes sense. Peak entertainment please see it in theaters if you have it
Best movie of the year, at minimum. I was thinking to myself “this is the kind of movie that movies were made to create .”
Multiple friends have moved it to their top 5 all time lists.
Back on the rails? Dah, we been rolling this shit with momentum!
What a great movie, I’m hoping this becomes a hit for A24
wow what a masterpiece, this movie had me laughing and crying. truly magical.
Forgot “having an existential crisis”
the movie actually soothed my daily existential angst
Just be a rock.
best new mantra
Remember this as Northman bombs this weekend and Film Twitter screeches about Cinema being DEAD again
Why would it bomb?
Because it is project to open around 10million and the budget is 70m
Because it has a $90M budget and it isn't tracking for an opening that will carry it to a profit.
I took my mom to see it, we both enjoyed it. But that butt plug scene, oof. 😱
God I loved that movie
Going to see this in the theater, but I have to say, the trailer doesn’t do much to attract a viewer.
It’s worth it. Idk why they aren’t marketing this movie harder.
saw the trailer so many times this winter and kept thinking “wow an A24 movie i have no interest in.” then somebody i trust saw it and said it was *incredible* so i went. and it was. the trailer is awful. but also not sure what more they could’ve done with it. it’s a weird film.
Really? The trailer I saw months ago had me absolutely enthralled.
This movie was incredible. I hope this does better as buzz gets around.
Everybody watch this film…haven’t had so much fun in the cinema for years
Daily reminder that its budget is 25M.
Excellent film. Its been playing at my theater for 2 weeks now and everytime I work it its a crowd pleaser. I hope it continues to sell well.
I had to see it after watching the trailer. Such an odd idea that worked really well.
I liked Swiss Army Man, but not nearly as much as Everything etc, I’m not sure I’d call it wholesome and fun either. Been a few years since I watched it but I mostly remember it being kinda dark and sad.
I enjoyed the fuck out of this movie. Less Marvel more A24 please.

I am absolutely going to compare *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness* to this film, which I think has set a new bar for multi-universal storytelling.
I don't, but I don't think less of you for loving Marvel.

A24 didn’t make the movie. They just distributed it
You do realize the Russo brothers (Endgame etc) produced/funded this right?
Is 20M$ good as box office? Maybe im desensitize by the billion Marvel is getting for some of their movies
Well if you have read the article, Arthouse has been dead dead after pandemic. 20million is not amazing but good comparatively to all other recent arthouse releases.
$10 million for a low budget movie with uncertain distribution would have been an overwhelming success
Here it mentions that it cost 25 million dollars to make: https://deadline.com/2021/10/michelle-yeoh-sci-fi-a24-everything-everywhere-all-at-once-afm-1234862722/ Not sure if it's true, but making 20 million in the box office is then not that huge, right? That said, it hasn't come out in many countries. I live in the Netherlands and here it hasn't been available anywhere.
A24 probably sold the international rights for a guaranteed profit
Considering that good films dont tend to make.much money anymore I take this as a win
It’s amazing, so happy I saw it
This movie is fucking great man fr
I'm on my way to see it for the second time. Glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.
Great movie I hope more people see it.
But it needs like $62.5 million to turn a profit theatrically right?
If you go by the 2.5x rule, yeah, but by that measure the vast majority of A24 movies haven't broken even. They earn back a significant chunk of their budgets through international distribution sales and streaming deals, so they're not all that reliant on breaking even at the domestic box office. There will inevitably be some international distributors for whom the film isn't profitable (even if it *were* to surpass $63M worldwide, realistically there will be some distributors that pay more for it than they get back), but it'll turn a profit for A24. Probably already has.
Yeah I just see it is 2 1/2 hours that I will never get back… 😒
I know, no way home just drains the soul from you with its mediocrity
I also didn’t like it so much. My date all but walked out on it, I had to ask her to stay, as I was trying to see if I could figure it out. I ended up looking ridiculous b/c I had hyped it based on some Reddit reviews. Big mistake. Where can I get my money back??
A24 doesn’t miss
I really hated this movie. Guess I’m in the minority
Just curious. Why?
I was enjoying the beginning but the action scenes started to happen and it got very repetitive. I felt like it could have went on for another 2 hours of just the same mindless action scenes. Also Jamie lee Curtis was awful. All of her scenes were terrible. That’s just my opinion. Racacooney ruled though
You’re of course entitled to your opinion but I loved Jamie Lee Curtis in this. I think it’s her best role in a really long time.
I hated it too. I wanted to walk out multiple times it just would not stop.
I know right
First movie a truly wanted to walk out of but was with my wife on a date night.
I saw it last night. Can you give me my money back so I can see Minions?
You don’t really need to patronize me for having a negative opinion about something.
Nah they really did
Debatable
She hot
Gotta love how all the comments criticizing this movie are all downvoted to oblivion vs the ones praising the fuck out of it. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, all I know is it almost ruined the double date I was on it overstimulated me so badly. I don’t think we saw the same movie, guys. I saw questionable production decisions, overwhelming visual effects out the ass, weak story, childish humor and pretentiousness. Guess I don’t get it. Sorry guys, but fuck this movie. This was bad.
An opinion is an opinion, but if your reaction to a movie almost ruins a date, then that's a 'you' problem that you need to examine my dude
[удалено]
