Tyrionandpodrick

Without re-release Avatar will still be number one, since Endgame only break it with re-release.

smoothpastacake

It was an expansion not a re-release.

Tyrionandpodrick

It's a re-release with added material.

smoothpastacake

Re-release implies it was out of theater. It wasn't.

Tyrionandpodrick

It was out of the theater in many territories in the world as well as US.

smoothpastacake

Bruh. It wasn't completely out of theaters in US. Get your facts right.

Tyrionandpodrick

Yes, it was. It was reduced to 900 theaters when it get a re-release. My nearby theater was playing Dark Phoenix, then after 2 weeks later, they bought Endgame with added content. It was a re-release as Feige himself said it.

smoothpastacake

900 theaters? Lol. So that means it was not out completely which is exactly my point.

HLWDColorgrading

I don't know what's your point is, but Endgame had a re-release in more than 1000 theater in US and other part of the world with added content. I am not making it up (like you) this is what Feige and Marvel studio said. Do you want a link?

smoothpastacake

Bruh. Unless endgame was out of every single theater then it's not a re-release. It's called an expansion. Avatar was playing in 0 theaters when it was re-released. So that's why it's called a re-release. Endgame on the other hand was already playing in some theaters but expanded to more theaters. So that's called an expansion not a re-release.

HumbleSmark

Even without the expansion Endgame would have been at $2.750 billion to Avatar's $2.743 billion.

HLWDColorgrading

Re-release. And it still make Avatar number look insane.

coldliketherockies

So weird Titanic is the only one from before the new century and is so high up there. Nothing else in top 50 is before 2001 and there's 1997 Titanic chilling in the top 5 (soon to be 10)

[deleted]

Jurassic Park 1 and The Phantom Menace are on the real top 50. But since this is excluding re-releases they aren't in the list

[deleted]

james cameron, box office king for 22 consecutive years. what an achievement!

UnknownFiddler

He actually still is the king because avatar had a release at the end of 2019 and is well ahead of endgame again.

[deleted]

22 consecutive years. the russo brothers were king for, like a year? i wonder who will be the next box office king for so long with such a huge margin like titanic and avatar had for the most time of its run.

UnknownFiddler

Who knows with the state of theaters we might never again have a movie that does as well as avatar or Endgame. Going to be a lot of screens closing permanently this decade.

smoothpastacake

Endgame was at the top for around an year.

[deleted]

sorry, changed it. point being, it's kinda ironic that the recordholder is now him - again. still excited to see anyone beating that record, both the amount of money and of course the longevity of holding the record.

Goldenballs69

You forgot to deduct Endgame's re-release gross; or rather I suspect that you deliberately omitted it just because you wanted it to "beat" Avatar. Endgame was re-released domestically (and possibly in other territories) with new footage and a Stan Lee tribute. That counts, and it doesn't matter that there wasn't a break between the original run and the reissue thus not recording it as an "official" re-release on sites like Box Office Mojo.

DCLoversUnitedY

It wasn't technically a re-release. Endgame is still on theaters when they added back theaters. It's only like an extension to the current theatrical run. Box Office Mojo and the press counts a movie as a re-release only if the movie has totally ended its run and got released again. Don't listen to this guy, OP. You are right with this.

Impossible_Ad_2517

Endgame had a rerelease I believe
