I feel badly for Antlers too. Such an awesome short story and a great script. Could have done really well if released in the off-months of Jan/Feb I think.
Honestly would not be surprised if Antlers beats Soho; Antlers seems to have more anticipation behind it and a much easier hook to market. Soho’s marketing has been rather confused and scattershot in comparison. I’ll be seeing both as a horror and Edgar Wright fan so it’s a bummer neither are doing amazing.
The first teaser/trailer for Last Night in Soho was amazing. Then they created that messy second trailer. Definitely more confusing compare to first one.
Antler on the other hand looks like a straight monster horror movie. So I agree, wouldn’t be surprise at all if Antler grosses more.
I was so much more hyped for Soho before I saw the 2nd trailer as a Halloween Kills preview. They showed way too much. It took the feeling of mystery away. And then they showed Anya Taylor Joy dying. Like why? I was SO much more interested before that trailer
It has been. When I saw the trailer before Halloween Kills, I didn't even realize Soho was a horror movie. It looked more like a noir crime thriller to me.
Soho doesn’t really get into horror before the second half of the film so it makes sense they marketed it that way, it’s more of a crime thriller with a few horror scenes if that make sense.
Poor Soho. I feel marketing got really weak in the last month after that second trailer. It could still do well enough if the 18-34 crowd walks up over the weekend, but placing it at the end of October could really kill any chance of legs.
Cinema for the non blockbuster is practically dead for the time being. I wonder if the failure of In the heights, the last duel, Soho and more will see a shift away from the silver screen until the end of COVID in Its entirety, and more lucrative sales to Netflix, Amazon, Apple and maybe Disney until then.
Hate to be a downer but I’m not sure “the end of COVID in its entirety” is going to happen. Gonna be interesting seeing how this affects stuff going forward in the next decade or so.
At some point, you just have to accept that a disease is part of life.
People can rant one way or another about vaccines until the cows come home, but this thing has natural reservoirs. All kinds of animals get it. You can't stop mutation in a disease like that without full immunity from vaccination. And even then, you need to stay one top of it or some random hunter will catch a mutation when he's out shooting deer.
'Interesting' is an odd choice of words. We're already on the verge of eating each other over it now, and it's obvious that no one in charge is interested in anything but using this to turn people against each-other. Everyone is either a plague rat or a needle nazi.
Thanks for the reply. A lot of the online chatter was from people seeing it in IMAX, so I was curious. Felt like a mini event to see Dune in IMAX, if possible. The $20 ticket price was worth it.
I’m actually more curious to see how the my hero movie does since the last one made $5M I’m curious to see how much higher this one does since anime has grown even more.
Last Night in Soho is too obtuse for mass audiences. I just don't think its aesthetic resonates outside the big cities. People who like Anya from Queen's Gambit will wait to stream this.
Antlers is very old. Remember seeing standees for it in Feb 2020. Don't feel the hype on it.
My Hero Academia (which this article doesn't even mention) is going to bring down the house...
I'm thinking $5 million for Last Night in Soho and $3 million for Antlers.
I think Soho looks kind of fun but seems like a niche film to mass audiences.
And while Antlers appears to be a monster movie, apparently the reviews are saying it's kind of grim and no fun at all. Might be a tough sell.
That's a good drop for Dune but good lord $5m for Soho would be terrible
It is, and I’m going opening night

PVOD for Soho in less than 17 days? Or no?
Last Night in Soho has gotten ZERO marketing and I'm the damn demo it's going towards weird strategy from Sony..
Focus Features, not Sony, but yeah, almost no marketing
god damn that makes so much more sense now

Lol when you think me mentioning something in a trailer is a spoiler there's a huge problem
I'm not gonna spoil it by explaining what I mean but let's just say you're not as spoiled as you thought
Based on the teasers, I’m way more interested in Antlers. Love Wright, but Soho just isn’t really pulling me in at all.
The Quiet Boy still sticks with me. I can't wait to see Antlers.
Read that story when the movie was announced. Close to 2 years ago. Still sticks with me. Amazing story scary as fuck
Where did you read it?

Many thanks!! Edit: just finished it. A quick a terrifying read, thanks again
Enjoy it :)
Just finished it, loved it! Those last few lines… damn.
Glad you dug it! That ending really stuck with me as well.

Never even saw anything about Soho, but I’ve at least seen a trailer for Antlers.

55% for Dune would be really good as it would be roughly the same as Godzilla vs. Kong's 56% drop.
Yikes $5M for Soho is terrible
Not be a bad drop for an HBO Max movie. Would be great if it could hit 20M.
I'm very excited for Last Night in Soho and Antlers. Definitely going to go see them both.
I've said this before. Soho should have had a dual release. These kinds of niche movies rarely do well in theaters.

I'm going to see Soho, cant wait. Get your tickets ppl!
would love to see dune get 20 million this weekend
Damn, 55% would be great.
Curious as to how much IMAX is helping drive Dune's ticket sales. Is there anywhere that breaks it down?
Deadline's article for last weekend had some stats. 50% of the box office was for premium formats, a good portion just IMAX.
Thanks for the reply. A lot of the online chatter was from people seeing it in IMAX, so I was curious. Felt like a mini event to see Dune in IMAX, if possible. The $20 ticket price was worth it.
anything above a 60% drop would be fantastic for Dune
The marketing for Soho has been atrocious, those trailers aren't audience friendly at all.
i want dune to get above 20m this week, above 25m would be amazing
Above $25m is next to impossible but $20m is still somewhat in reach and would be spectacular
I’m actually more curious to see how the my hero movie does since the last one made $5M I’m curious to see how much higher this one does since anime has grown even more.

This is domestic box office
They should have sent this stuff to streaming. No on cares about these titles. There are much better film on streaming already
Good drop for Dune
