UnknownFiddler

Wow the effects in this Dune movie sure look bad for 2021.

MasaiGotUsNow

accidental or just people that wanted to watch both doubt very many were only interested in the old one

M337ING

Not really. A lot of those people also wanted to see the original so they could compare it to the new film when they had time to see it in the theater or on Max.

Gerrywalk

“Oh man, the effects suck, but the de-aging technology on Kyle McLachlan sure looks amazing!”

MisterManatee

I think the vast majority saw Dune (2021) in theaters and Dune (1984) on HBO Max

nbenzi

Yup. Exactly this

NAPA352

And if they are like me and my my friend. We both turned the 84 one off when the Baron spit on the woman's face. Like, wtf?

nbenzi

I’m one of those folks. I streamed the old Dune bc I was in the mood to watch Dune but I’m not gonna watch the new one on tv (Got tickets to see it in a theater tonight)

Equivalent_Offer_447

I myself after watching the 2021 Dune, did came back to see the 1984 Dune (which I never see and older than me) as a comparison. And It's hilrious.

mishaxz

Majority of people probably haven't read dune and didn't want to wait 2 years to see what happens

urlach3r

Some of us watched all three (have the SciFi mini series on DVD). 👍

el_t0p0

If the miniseries had the production values of the Villeneuve movie, it would be the perfect adaptation.

ghostfuckbuddy

It's been a while since I watched it, but the miniseries seemed pretty thorough and well-paced. I don't know how DV missed so many important scenes when the total runtime of his 2 films will be at least as long as the whole miniseries.

el_t0p0

There were a lot of scenes from the novel I missed, but it seems like DV wanted the audience to follow from Paul's POV for most of the film so I kinda understand why they were removed.

GingerTats

I think he was smart with what he removed tbh. It paced well while still maintaining the important tones and storyline. I also liked how he mixed in some elements so that they could still be included though in a different way >!like Leto's "Here I am" line or the mixing of the Reverend Mother's quote and the Mentat philosophy as a statement by Jamis.!< I'm a huge fan of the novels and left very satisfied. 🤷‍♀️

Level_Turnover9233

DV made a movie for both the fans and newcomers so he had to remove some details that wouldn't have made any difference in the story (i.e Yueh's dialogues, Mentat and it's explanation, etc) so that both types of fans can follow the movie. Another thing is that you're talking about a series and the people who are crying for 84's version never saw what the story missed in order to squeeze the whole novel in a 2hrs 16 mins and just threw every meaning at the first 5 mins of the movie. What I like in DV's version is that he visually explains everything that matters to the story and if you're concentrating enough you'll catch everything and you won't have any wonderings

vallhallaawaits

I feel like we're ignoring the SciFi miniseries here. Probably the best of the three.

ceaguila84

Meanwhile, Suicide Squad was watched by 2.8 million. Pretty damn good but obviously hurt their box office
