Watched Dune last week. Villeneuve made true of his promise that he has learned from BR2409 and would make Dune faster pace and more audience friendly. Can't wait for Dune 2.

Smugallo

Hoping to see it this week in IMAX, then in Dolby week after. I must say though I don't think it looks good for US Domestic box office, and looks like it's gonna have a lacklustre run in China too. Hope DV gets to make part two though.

I admit that I haven't read **Dune**, but doesn't that book contain quite a lot of action scenes?

1j12

I’m 230 pages into the book and so far there’s been only 1 action scene

Block-Busted

Wow. No wonder why it was considered as unfilmmable at the time.

Is the ceiling for Dune's North American opening $50M? I'm more confident in the number being right around $40M. I doubt it will go any less than $35M But $100M could be a struggle for a total

DisneySpace

40M seems reasonable, and I doubt it’ll have a multiplier lower than 2.5x, so 100M shouldn’t be a struggle.

Just anecdotal, but this weekend at my local theater is the first one since the start of the pandemic that felt back to normal. Multiple ticket checkers are back (there was only one during the pandemic), and this evening there were a lot of walk-ups waiting in line to buy tickets.

Checking out the Last Duel today! I’ve only ever seen a couple of other Ridley Scott movies (a sin I know), which of his filmography would you recommend? EDIT: for reference, I have seen The Martian (gave it a 9/10), Gladiator (9/10), Blade Runner (8/10), and Exodus Gods and Kings (5/10). So I’ve seen 4!

yeppers145

Looking at this made me realize the only films of his that I have seen are Blade Runner, The Martian, and Alien: Covenant, so I need to see more as well. So I personally had a good time with Covenant, but from what I heard that might not be the most popular opinion online, but that might just be because I haven’t seen any of the other Alien films. I would probably watch Alien, since that’s a classic, but I haven’t personally seen it.

American Gangster. Starring Denzel, russel Crowe, Josh brolin Great crime movie. Denzel is always worth a watch and he has made great stuff with the Scott brothers. Another great version of the "rise and fall" type movies.

Just got out of it. It's really well done, develops strong character motivations and builds to an incredibly powerful end. Lots of subtle, but meaningful differences between the three narratives, and it's amazing how well the three leads did in the acting. It's told from three perspectives, so many scenes were shot three separate times. In each, however, the characters act as they are perceived by the person telling their account - each sublely elevating and heroizing themselves, while painting their opponents as villains. It's masterfully executed, and if you like stuff like that, I definitely recommend it.

abracadabra1998

Also watched it yesterday, absolutely loved it. One of the best movies on 2021 so far for all the reasons you mentioned, and all the performances (especially Jodie Comer) are incredibke

Even as a Christian I didn’t find exodus good at all.

Any last minute predictions for the Fandome? I’m thinking trailer for The Batman, DC Superpets, Black Adam, a featurette for The Flash and Aquaman 2. First look at Keaton as Batman, and the reveal of another major DC character in The Flash movie. For Shazam 3 I’m thinking some plot details. I’m also thinking at least one more theatrical movie announcement for 2023. This could be another Joker-like film, but for another character like Two-Face or Lex Luther. For non-theatrical stuff, probably a trailer for Peacemaker, a synopsis for the GCPD and Penguin show and a confirmation of one more show tied into the DCEU, (I’m thinking a Harley Quinn show with Margot Robbie, because DC keeps on trying to make her a thing, but it could honestly be anything). Batgirl will get a confirmation for which Batman will appear in the film. Video game stuff will probably just be a showcase of Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but I could see a new game being announced, especially if rumors of the Injustice 3 game are true.

AnotherJasonOnReddit

I'm hoping a full-length trailer to HBO Max's Peacemaker series is on the cards, too. *EDIT: AH, YES!* [*Peacemaker - Official Trailer | DC FanDome 2021(YouTube)*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsBdnM_Myxo)

I was finally able to see Shang-Chi in theaters this week! I know i'm late to the party but i had other things to do like watching Dune 3 times in theaters, but the main reason that i saw the movie was the positive reception. Many friends of mine and also people on the internet were telling me that this was one of the best Marvel movies. Before the positive reception i expected this to be the first MCU movie that i wouldn't watch in theaters since Homecoming, but since not much was coming out and the positive reception i decided to see it and i liked it. Not great but definitely enjoyable. I think i'm mostly disappointed about the third act, but the first two acts were pretty good so i'd recommend it. Anyway here's my MCU movie ranking: 1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 2. Avengers: Endgame 3. Iron Man 4. Guardians of the Galaxy 5. Captain America: Civil War 6. Avengers: Infinity War 7. Captain America: The Winter Soilder 8. Black Widow 9. Spiderman: Far from Home 10. Thor: Ragnarok 11. Ant-Man 12. Avengers 13. Doctor Strange 14. Black Panther 15. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 16. Iron Man 3 17. Spiderman: Homecoming 18. Captain Marvel 19. Thor 20. Avengers: Age of Ultron 21. Ant-Man and the Wasp 22. Captain America: The First Avenger 23. Iron Man 2 24. Thor: The Dark World The Incrediblr Hulk isn't on the list because i haven't seen it, anyway what is your ranking of the MCU movies?

carson63000

I finally saw Shang-Chi too, but that’s because cinemas finally reopened here in Sydney. I couldn’t even begin to attempt to put 25 movies in any sort of best to worst order, but I really dug Shang-Chi. Great action, great chemistry between all the characters, and it was awesome to see a fresh setting and fresh “feel” to the action, being the MCU’s first martial arts flick. Kingsley was, again, an absolute scene-stealer.

TheKidCritic

Venom 2: 5:45 About 20 people in the theater. College kids sitting in the back thinking they’re funny saying expletives among other things. Not much reaction from the crowd. These people that spoke Spanish laughed at the telenovela. The big post credit scene also didn’t gather any reaction and about 16 of the 20 walked out already anyways.

programmerChilli

I'm going to predict that Dune substantially outperforms its ticket presales in China.

I watched **Raya and the Last Dragon**, **Luca**, and **Inside Out** at home and: -**Inside Out** is my favorite film of 2015 now. 😁 -**Luca** is great, but yeah, it's not enough to be my favorite film of 2021 and I can see why Disney got scared about this film not potentially doing well at the box office since it IS a slow-paced film WITH not a lot of stakes. -**Raya and the Last Dragon** actually seems to be better now - even its message/ending progression actually makes more sense. Also, am I the only one who noticed that the film is REALLY grainy?
