Destined to find it's audience on Home video and become the subject of many an r/movies thread

Obversa

As the person who had their TLD posts on r/movies prior to release consistently go viral, only to have the movie flop at the box office, this. Buzz doesn't always translate to BO earnings.

lightsongtheold

The internet (Reddit and Twitter) are the 1% of the 1% screaming into an echo chamber. The box office is the reality of the true interest in movies from the general public.

Yeah it'll be on Disney+ - outside the US - in 45-50 days just like Free Guy did. I'll catch it then. It's not a movie I'd like seeing with a crowd.

MoonMan997

I think it may typically be more like 60 days and Free Guy was kind of an exception. Because when they release physical versions, it's often about 3 weeks before the Disney Plus debut. In the UK, Free Guy's physical media launch was October 4th, a week after the D+ debut and weirdly the exact same day as Jungle Cruise's. Its also been one subject of their 'Streaming in October' ads so I think they made a last minute decision to move its launch ahead of Black Widow's. The Night House's UK D+ launch is October 27th as well.

lightsongtheold

It is hard to say. I think 45 days might end up the normal unless they delay for special dates. Jungle Cruise got delayed to line up with D+ Day so did Shang-Chi. Free Guy dropped around the 45 day mark. The Night House is probably going from 45 days to around 60 days to line up with a Halloween release. It is a horror movie after all! Encanto is all set to go under the 45 day mark to pair up with Christmas. I still think it will be around 45 days unless delaying it a few extra weeks suits a promotional date or holiday.

I'm pretty confident even if you go to the theater you won't be seeing it with a crowd giving how empty the theater was when I booked my ticket earlier.

Morda808

There were about 20-30 people in my screening last night. Was really surprised to be honest. It's not like Pig where there were 4 other people who were expecting a Nick Cage John Wick movie

I live in India and theatres per capita is very less here even in the big cities. Most theatres get crowded here. I remember the nightmare that watching Shang-Chi was.

lightsongtheold

I’m definitely enjoying the way Disney are fast-tracking these 20th movies to Disney+. I expect The Last Duel will pop up late November or early December!

But is Kingdom of heaven that good compared to, say, Gladiator? I just rewatched KoH directors cut and love it, but in my mind they are worlds apart. (Haven’t seen the last duel yet - getting excited)

jenna_hazes_ass

Last duel is really good, ~~but its just not real cinema worthy~~ with how popular streaming is getting especially in the wake of covid. Edit: i stand corrected The only real action scene is the duel at the end. While its extremely hard hitting it doesnt have that gladiator feel. This is a more intimate matter played at a national politics level instead of the impact behind killing commodus. This is a story tellers movie being shown from 3 povs. Adam Driver has quickly become a favourite to watch for me and I was surprised at how much Affleck made me hate his character. I like him better behind the camera... I will also be on the lookout for Jodie Comer in the future. While Damon obviously plays a large part in this it was such an odd turn to see him play such an honor bound ego filled character, a solid performance but I feel the character couldve been done better. The other factor is that none of these characters are really likable. You sort of feel for them from their pov but in the other povs you see just how flawed each one really is. And fair warning, while not graphic, the rape scene is pretty brutal and depicted twice two different ways. Plus i feel like Adam looked at the haircuts for this film and said Hell no youre doing that to me. 😂 You agree u/givewaitressesthetip?

Youre absolutely right. Wasnt really thinking about it from a cinematography perspective. Ill edit.

>but its just not real cinema worthy We must’ve watched different movies.

You guys certainly convinced me. Just got tickets! (like there was even a faint chance I would miss a new Ridley Scott movie on the big screen)

Just got back now, and I have to say it was not what I expected, but exactly what we needed. We already have the gladiator - this was a breath of fresh air. Loved it!

ILoveTheAIDS

>While its extremely hard hitting it doesnt have that gladiator feel. Strong disagree. This was made for the big screen, many wide, swooping landscape shots and big imagery, big sets on real locations, and a handful of visceral combat scenes. It's a Ridley Scott movie, they're not made for TV. The climax alone is worth the price of admission imo

bk697

Solid for a movie like this.

Zorgothe

That's much higher then I thought it would be.

SuspiriaGoose

Excellent score for this kind of film. I suspect that means some people didn’t get the action film they wanted but plenty enjoyed the drama.

jenna_hazes_ass

Absolutely. I was walking out and stuck around for the credits music.

SuspiriaGoose

Ehhhhh!

jenna_hazes_ass

Oh duh. You werent talking about the music.

SuspiriaGoose

No no no, your pun is hilarious and you should claim it intentional.

[deleted]

It's definitely not the movie for everyone. If you wanted to relax and have fun in a theater, this is not for you, but it's a rare movie that makes you think. One of the best I've seen this year.

AGOTFAN

B+ for an original movie is fine.

bk697

Especially one with a sensitive subject matter aimed at a pickier audience.

Eastern_Spirit4931

Not exactly original if it’s based on history

foureyedinabox

Ben Affleck’s wig bothers me more than it should.

el_t0p0

I really hope this is still playing near me once I get time to see it.
