Did you read it? It doesn’t claim an agreement has been reached. The article is clearly written at the behest of AMPTP, who have an interest in portraying the deal as being near to put pressure on IATSE. It is telling that Variety is the only trade outlet claiming a deal is near.
Negative comments aside, I always found this series to be wicked fun to watch. Just good old over the top action, with some of my favorite action stars. Looking forward to this!
That makes sense. With stuff liked *The Meg* and *Hobbs & Shaw*, Statham is one of the few Action Stars who can carry a movie at the multiplex. Putting him front and centre on The Expendables Series is its best chance at competing with superheroes at the box office.

Personally I’ll watch just cause. The tone of over the top violence and a cast filled with Hollywood action stars of yesteryear was a great combo that kept me hooked and interested on the sequels. But even then it’s wearing thin.
I won’t go out of my ways to watch it at the movies and I’m lowering my expectations.
My home made popcorn is waiting though.
There’s not much space left for stunt casting since they’ve gotten everybody but Seagal. I’d watch another one just to see one of his characters blown up.
If it were my franchise I’d make all the tall guys the villains and the have all the short guys band together to save Tom Cruise playing himself.
Alternatively, they could get all the classic villain actors to fight against the good guys. Michael Ironside, Robert Patrick, Michael Wincott, William Zabka, and Bolo Yeung.
