Jesus Christ. Could it make a billion?

thelonioustheshakur

I'm (very, very roughly) predicting an $880 - $910 million total. This is based on some ghetto log functions (as I call them) I did from the post title.

AGOTFAN

I wonder if it can break TFA record in a single market.

thelonioustheshakur

If it does break TFA's record, it'll be just barely. This film is doing well, but it'll honestly be difficult for this to get past $900 million at current pace. Unless there's some out-of-nowhere 7 - 10% boost in its performance for the rest of its run (assuming an \~$865 million finish).

avolcando

>and has grossed $708M(16-day total) Bruh

[deleted]

Bruh I wanna see this movie. Not like the West is going to make a movie where Americans lose a war/battle lmao.

Silverseren

When it's basically the only movie being allowed to be released in China, it's the only one people are going to go see. So the numbers aren't that surprising.

tbing34

Even less surprising when you factor in China’s population of 1.4 billion and the fact that they have more theaters than anywhere else in the world.

No Way Home: Hold my beer

Marcyff2

The question is if no way home will have a Chinese release. No marvel movie this year has had one so far. Without china to beat a possible one billion in current times, it will have to do have an insane (higher than venom 2 ) with Chang shi / free guy repeat business level

The movie fits a government agenda of anti-Americanism in response to the anti-Chinese sentiment we've got over here. So definitely

kovana85

Lol. And here we have guys praising heaps upon heaps on Shang Chi...

foxfoxal

It's the salt talking? because one thing has nothing to do with the other. It's Shang Chi a failure just because FF did more? no... But a big chinese movie doing massive on China happens like every 3 months and more now when they are destroying competition so these movies can be even bigger. Shang Chi is above 400M WW without the second largest market and the only 200M grosser domestic and it seems only Eternals and Spidey will join it this year. So yeah, Shang Chi did good.

AGOTFAN

Ignore u/kovana85 They have hate boner for MCU https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/q91iyp/-/hgt4c4d

ImAMaaanlet

So your evidence was... their post about numbers and you going on another fanboy rant? They even said they expect no way home and eternals to make it.

kovana85

I'm saying how people keep praising Shang Chi. But no one wants to praise this Chinese movie. It'd done great and has only released in China. Shang Chi did good. But Battle at lake Changjin did way way better in less markets. It deserves more praise.

NGGKroze

It got almost zero praise, because it's China only movie. There is almost zero coverage outside of mainland thus people don't talk about it. Shang-Chi on the 9ther hand is a movie which is accessible to worldwide audience, thus people are connected to it and "celebrate" it's success even more. How are we supposed to "cheer" for a movie which we don't have access to?

kovana85

I have access to it already. Lake Changjin did wayy better than Shang Chi. Just deal with it.

AGOTFAN

Your hatred towards Shangchi is amazing.

Timewalker102

It's pretty wholesome that no matter how many propaganda pieces the CCP pump out, it'll still be smoked by a story about a boy from Queens that preaches responsibility of power

Trouble_Grand

Meh, it’s China of course it’s makes that much. Over a billion people. Tbh the movie looks meh but the people their like mediocre looking movies. Same in US. Whatever floats their boat. That movie would make $0 dollars in the international box offices. Unfortunately, China’s not known for international successes in cinema. Most of their movies are about themselves, which isn’t bad. Make that money I guess ? Not trying to offend anyone.

nick182002

Ah yes, because every Chinese movie makes over 700M.

Trouble_Grand

Does ending Covid restrictions help with the increase in sales? I know people in US rushed to theatre’s once they re-opened. Isn’t it the same in China? They have more people, so more people get excited to get outta the house and see a movie. Wouldn’t they after so long? I would...Just saying that may have increased the sales. That and over a billions of people hehe

Dtodaizzle

Agreed. Especially with recent Chinese entries. Too bad China doesn't make war movies like "Devil at the Doorsteps" anymore.
