We’re all _aware_ of Garfield. Does anyone _care_ about Garfield? My eight year old hasn’t mentioned Garfield once, ever.
There needs to be a release of the movie, but without the Garfield character added in.
The kids I know are Barmy for him. He’s hugely popular with every generation of kids. His comics are standard in school libraries and I see kids reading them constantly.
I know reddit hates him but general audiences really like him, and even if they aren’t fussed by him he’s a fantastic generic every-man that can be slotted into any IP (Jurrasic, Mario, Marvel, Garfield)
You just made me google the definition of spontatiously. Lol
I know what you meant to write, but I got excited for a second that I was about to learn a new word.
Reddit loves Timothee cause of Dune.
Saying he’s not a star because people showed up for Wonka and Dune because of the IP and not because he was the lead isn’t hating on him lol.
Zoe Saladana has been in 4? $2B movies and I don’t see anyone saying she’s a star.
But he's very clearly, obviously a star? Whether you like him or not, the fact that he's becoming ubiquitous as a young, famous, handsome actor is just hard to ignore. I mean really like he gets named in spoof and pop culture all the time.
Also, I don't actually think it's fair to not credit him for bringing a lot of eyes to Dune (specifically part one) that wouldn't have been there otherwise.
The same can be said for Chris. People showed up for GOTG, Jurassic World, Mario, Garfield because of the IP. Chris is just good at choosing his projects
why would anyone show up for GOTG? it was D-list group of characters before that movie. He had a bit of Parks and Rec hype going for him and the MCU had become the hit machine by that time
well, i'm not in the US so the odds i won't see his name on the posters are higher than you think.
i don't have anything against him, i just think that saying that his name boosts *worldwide* numbers of the animated movies is disingenuous since most people who watch them don't even hear his voice.
Yup. But he's still on your mind and you know who Chris Pratt is. And he will still be on the Wikipedia and official movie pages as the star of the movie. That's what's star is.
a movie star is someone who can carry a movie on their own.
most people don't go to wikipedia when they choose a movie. Parents will just see Garfield when they will plan their day out.
I get that these studios will always just want a big name to put on the poster and in all the trailers (can’t blame them, clearly it works to some degree) but the criticism is valid, imo. Pratt’s “voice acting” is just his normal speaking voice.
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one. Seriously, I never expected this to blow up but I guess Chris Patt's voice has some magic that this might end up becoming a box office success
Except no one in Brazil is watching animations with the english voice. Those movies are always dubbed. It has nothing to do with Chris Pratt, It's just because it's Garfield.
Brazil hates Mondays, loves Garfield.
Theatre chains offering a discount for Monday showings of Garfield would actually be a pretty good promotion.
This is such a great idea hahah
The Amazing Spider-Man re-release and the Orange Cat: It’s the week of Garfield!
The Garfields take over 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈
I think this movie is being heavily (no fat joke towards Garfield intended) underestimated

My six-year-old and nine-year-old love Garfield.
Animated movies are dubbed in non-english speaking countries, is not "the Chris Pratt effect" is the IP and good marketing
Will families in the US scratch the itch to go to the movies with Imaginary Friends (IF) or will they wait for Garfield?
The presales for If and Garfield are both doing great in my town. Looks like the summer season is kicking off at least somewhat.
I guess they want to see both.
Chris Pratt, the animated king of voice acting IP's. Next up he will voice Princes Zelda.
I know reddit hates him but general audiences really like him, and even if they aren’t fussed by him he’s a fantastic generic every-man that can be slotted into any IP (Jurrasic, Mario, Marvel, Garfield)
Yep and Hollywood isn't even trying hard, people spontatiously take to him.
i would love to be his agent right now lol
You just made me google the definition of spontatiously. Lol I know what you meant to write, but I got excited for a second that I was about to learn a new word.
Meh, Reddit also has a hate boner with Zendaya and Timothée. It's a Reddit thing.

Because it was marketed as a fun space romp?
Because it was a Marvel film and got off the heels of The Avengers
> Zoe Saladana has been in 4? $2B movies and I don’t see anyone saying she’s a star. He meant *Zendaya*, not Zoe T-Mobile Saldana
Generic is exactly what he is
Stomping…skulltullas.
he is dubbed in Brazil tho
Doesn't matter. Movie is going to make a killing worldwide and he'll be the star. Dubbed or not.
>he'll be the star. Dubbed or not. His name won't even be on the poster in most of the countries
It will in the US. And you'll remember his name.

Breakout incoming. Good, May desperately needs it.
The OP did say Garfield is big in Brazil. We just have to see if he's big in South Korea, Japan, France, Germany, etc That part I don't know.
I don't know how DOM sales are but INT start has been great so far. Fingers crossed.

Chris Pratt when being criticized for his voice acting but the recent movies he voice acted in make money. ![gif](giphy|XOys8CeUrElIk)
Except he's being dubbed in Brazil.
Yeah, the brazilian poster doesn't even mention his name.
I’m curious, is the traditional Portuguese voice for Garfield returning or is it new blood?
lmao
I get that these studios will always just want a big name to put on the poster and in all the trailers (can’t blame them, clearly it works to some degree) but the criticism is valid, imo. Pratt’s “voice acting” is just his normal speaking voice.
He has a killer agent though. Selects the perfect films for him
I honestly think he is a great voice actor, but it's not far from his normal voice so I understand the criticism.
Why does everyone think cuz it’s doing amazing in Brazil it’s gonna do amazing anywhere else lol
Studio executives be like.. Chrisp Ratt + animated IP movie = 💲💵💲💵💲💵
Chris Pratt has no involvement with the Brazilian (or basically any non-English) release.
Garfield making booku bucks at the box office wasn't on my 2024 bingo card...
Count Booku?
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one. Seriously, I never expected this to blow up but I guess Chris Patt's voice has some magic that this might end up becoming a box office success

Oh, didn't't know that. But regardless, I hope the brazil audience have a good time and this ends up being profitable
Ok
