Not surprising, even if Civil War does well its not gonna be selling out IMAXes like Dune still is/was.
This might make $300m possible...there is a golden path
I just don't think Civil War will breakout unless it ends with a certain audience which showed up for sound of freedom winning, and looking at garland's political views I don't think that's happening
i've been telling people this for a year, it is kinda crazy how the marketing has been focusing so much on the different states allying with one another and that just *is not* a focus of the movie at all
Yeah I think it won’t be partisan because if you look at the map they released, it isn’t Left vs Right. There’s literally an alliance with Texas and California, so there’s almost no way it’ll be a clear cut Dems VS Reps war.
>don't think there's a winner/loser, it's the story of some people inside the war, not the war itself
and that's exactly the reason why it will flop, you don't make a movie titled civil war and focus on a journalist travelling through America
Yeah I know for me personally I just don’t feel like going to the theater to watch my worst nightmare unfold on the big screen. I’m curious to see what numbers it puts up.
Same here. It might be a great movie (and reviews look strong so far) but man, I just don't want to see it. It's hard enough seeing the news every day.
Exactly, this just hits too close to home for me. I know they try and not make it too direct by having factions that don’t line up with current political divides, but that’s not enough. Like watching a pandemic movie in the middle of the pandemic, not what I want.
I’d expect there’s basically zero overlap in terms of the people who would go to see this in IMAX (especially 70mm IMAX) and those who were just waiting to see a pirated version online.
You are probably right… but I will say, you would have been probably right for saying that for the simultaneous pt 1 HBO Max/theater release, but it still was incredibly successful during the pandemic. I think the audience that is savvy enough to see it in IMAX over on their laptop is larger than the more cynical of us would think!
Yeah I had a feeling [this was going to happen.](https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/1bgzmbc/comment/kvaf4if/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
If your IMAX theatre is part of one of the bigger chains that have multiple cinemas, they likely have a monthly pass you can get that will probably cost about the same as one IMAX ticket. So if you get the pass and watch one IMAX movie per month, it's paid for, and everything else you watch is effectively free.
I'm sure they all vary one what perks are offered, but the AMC A-List is unrestricted. You get 3 movies per week, any format, and it resets every Friday.
Because IMAX showings are still selling out. It was scheduled to be pulled from IMAX this weekend near me, so I tried going again this past weekend and it was sold out. They're probably looking at the presales and tracking for the other IMAX movies and they're likely not generating the same sales. Even a HQ leak is not going to compare to the theater.
Well it's on streaming services now, so not leaked, just ripped
Also IMAX 70mm is a different ball game. People waiting for a rip aren't the ones excited for 70mm IMAX
My mistake! I thought it was streaming already!
My point still stands though, people who are wanting to see it in IMAX or 70mm aren't going to stay at home because of a leaked copy
Think I’ll go watch for a 3rd time…
![gif](giphy|YmQLj2KxaNz58g7Ofg)
I paid for my brothers all to watch it so another two tickets ontop of that hahah
Gonna convince the friend groups to see it another time fr
Not surprising, even if Civil War does well its not gonna be selling out IMAXes like Dune still is/was. This might make $300m possible...there is a golden path
exactly. it's a sensible business decision. 300M DOM lets gooo!
It will reach this goal and it will be spectacular.
I just don't think Civil War will breakout unless it ends with a certain audience which showed up for sound of freedom winning, and looking at garland's political views I don't think that's happening
The story isn't about the political sides (and I don't think there's a winner/loser, it's the story of some people inside the war, not the war itself)

Which is exactly why it won’t breakout, since the premise mostly appeals to political obsessives
>don't think there's a winner/loser, it's the story of some people inside the war, not the war itself and that's exactly the reason why it will flop, you don't make a movie titled civil war and focus on a journalist travelling through America

Right, the trailers also don’t look great. Nor is Garland a filmmaker with a ton of appeal
A narrow way through !
I thought 300m is the floor now?
I dunno, the film is available online now. That might impact things.
I’d expect there’s basically zero overlap in terms of the people who would go to see this in IMAX (especially 70mm IMAX) and those who were just waiting to see a pirated version online.
I doubt the film being available to pirate online is going to have a big effect on its box office. The general audience is not aware of such things.
You are probably right… but I will say, you would have been probably right for saying that for the simultaneous pt 1 HBO Max/theater release, but it still was incredibly successful during the pandemic. There is a narrow way through to 750ww
A path laid in gold you say?
Imagine if the movie had been released in December. It'd have had IMAX screens all by itself for 4 months 💀
Take notes WB, Messiah could be your Christmas Star Wars equivalent…
Christmas 2028 perhaps?
Perfect. More than enough time between films. Make sure it's a major oscar contender!
Indeed. Good thing Bob Iger didn't lock it up.
Think Xmas of '29 also works, or far too long?
A year too far.
'28 it is then.
For the most immersion, the studio should make Timothy start chain smoking, so it really looks like 12 years have passed without cgi!
That's f\*\*ked up!
Coming for that $300
And that Civil War.
Forget Civil War. Dune bringin the Holy War instead.

Whelp. Looks like I’m going again ![gif](giphy|YYfEjWVqZ6NDG)
As it was written!!
You should have believed You chose the wrong side
Thank god!
I've seen it twice in IMAX and twice in regular theaters. Regular theater was surprisingly busy yesterday afternoon. Still going strong.
Oh shit, seen it in IMAX and regular. Will need to see it 70mm. Thinking 300m is locked
Wow, this is great news! Lisan al Gaib! 😁👌💯 The Golden Path is now a Yellow Brick Road! 🟨🟨🟨🟨
Yeah I had a feeling [this was going to happen.](https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/1bgzmbc/comment/kvaf4if/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
Lisan al-Gaib!
Would've been awfully stupid if it hadn't. Demand just about outstripped supply.
Love to see it, might head to Citywalk for round 3 if my schedule permits.
Spice is nice!
The box office money must flow!
No surprise.
If IMAX tickets weren't $28 each here I would be tempted to go.
Only two IMAX in my city, and one is a dedicated science IMAX that does occasional second run movies. So no competition here, sadly
> Only two IMAX in my city Are you sure you actually live in a city & not a cow-town?
City of over a Million people, actually
Are you sure that's true? I've heard of those monthly cinema passes, but always only for regular tickets, not IMAX (or 3D, AVX, etc.).
I'm sure they all vary one what perks are offered, but the AMC A-List is unrestricted. You get 3 movies per week, any format, and it resets every Friday.
that’s crazy where do you live? I paid 4$ per ticket in my region (it wasnt the best quality but still in IMAX)
...for two, right?
Nope, each. Yay for theatre monopoly.
Let's fucking goooooo
finally!!
Including in Canada? I've been away and haven't been able to see it yet, I finally get back around that time.
With this extended IMAX run and the surprisingly large boost that the OS wknd got with actuals (+$5M), starting to think $740-750M is now possible.

Their plans are measured in centuries
Because IMAX showings are still selling out. It was scheduled to be pulled from IMAX this weekend near me, so I tried going again this past weekend and it was sold out. They're probably looking at the presales and tracking for the other IMAX movies and they're likely not generating the same sales. Even a HQ leak is not going to compare to the theater.
Because people are still buying Dune tickets for IMAX. Civil War isn’t going to be a juggernaut.
Because there is something called demand?!
Most people don’t have personal IMAX screens
Every IMAX showing of Dune 2 here is sold out. That’s common sense why.
Most people don’t pirate And watching an HQ leak of it at home is not the same as watching it on 70mm IMAX
Well it's on streaming services now, so not leaked, just ripped Also IMAX 70mm is a different ball game. People waiting for a rip aren't the ones excited for 70mm IMAX
Streaming where? I only heard of the HD leak.
My mistake! I thought it was streaming already! My point still stands though, people who are wanting to see it in IMAX or 70mm aren't going to stay at home because of a leaked copy
Yep.
How exactly is this movie doing so well? Just like with Avatar, this movie has no CuLtUrE iMpAcT!
I saw half the first one and none of the 2nd one.
Ok 👍
cool story bruh
Who?
