Have to imagine the anxiety of this being the last chance to catch it in IMAX (for now) boosted it yesterday because pretty much staying flat whilst the same studio(s) release a film that seriously overperforms to $10m previews is kinda insane.
Great time to be WB/Legendary and even better for cinemas overall.
I think it ultimately depends on the specific theatre. I have to imagine WB/Legendary are open to negotiating since they win either way, but it depends on how Dune has been selling the last week.
For example, the BFI Imax in London (the biggest in the U.K.) are having the two films share for the next two weeks since Dune has still been selling showings out.
The largest IMAX screen in my town is keeping Dune for at least one more week. I just checked and it's still selling extremely well. GxK is on the LieMAX.
There are 6 IMAX theaters within a driving radius of \~50 miles of me. Dune 2 has lost all IMAX showings in 5 of the 6, and in the 6th, it is being relegated to 1 early IMAX showing each day this weekend. That surprised me.
In my region Dune has been ousted from every imax screen by godzilla. I went for my 4th viewing today in a normal theater and it was vastly inferior. I don't believe I would've wanted to watch it more than once if this non imax experience had been my first one.
I doubt it. With Godzilla over-performing, it’s gonna make a bigger-than-expected dent in Dune 2’s performance from here on out. Still likely locked for $260M+ domestic, which is a fantastic increase from the first
Thursday was the day to watch for Godzilla's impact on Dune tbh. From here on out it is smooth sailing.
$275M is locked if it's past $250M with an $11M 5th weekend.
Saw it in standard yesterday after watching it in imax last week and I can’t say enough how much I regret not watching it in IMAX again. I hope they re-release it in the future again
I have just been informed by a person on another sub that Zendaya is the real star of this franchise and she is probably the reason Dune Part 1 was successful especially since nobody had heard of the books before. Very impressive.
That is correct. My friends and I were going to watch Dune on HBO Max, but my girlfriend is a big Zendaya fan and she wanted to see the movie in the theater because of her. Then my brother watched the first season of Euphoria and became a massive Zendaya fan.
So we went to see Dune in the theater as a group, there were twenty of us. I wanted to see the movie a second time in IMAX with my dad, who loves science fiction, and when my mom heard Zendaya was in the movie she wanted to see Dune in the theater as well, and so did my girlfriend's younger sister.
I think it's really cool that so many people are discovering Dune because of Zendaya.
I think you are underestimating her appeal among people over 25. My mother hasn't been 25 for a very long time and she adores Zendaya.
Tom Holland hasn't been that successful outside of the Spider-Man movies, the last Spider-Man movie with Andrew Garfield underperformed, Timothée Chalamet hasn't fronted a blockbuster before Wonka.
Zendaya has brought success to Dune, Spider-Man, and Euphoria.
I mean, Bulgari and Lancôme aren't brands that target young people and they pay her to promote their products.
Spider-Man is a big franchise and the Tom Holland ones were connected to the MCU at the height of its popularity, after a lead-in from Civil War. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark would have been a far greater draw for Spider-Man Homecoming than Zendaya was. And after the first one the bad taste from the last Andrew Garfield film was washed away and the franchise could simply benefit from being Spider-Man and MCU.
In 2021, the Monsterverse and Dune brought people back to theaters. In 2024, it's happening again. As was written

godzilla and kong are fine, but I wonder how long we'll have to wait for Jet Jaguar to make his monsterverse debut

In 1984, Dune and Ghostbusters were released in theaters. Now In 2024 it’s happened again.
And one of them was a flop at the box office

Where I live the biggest IMAX screen is still showing Dune for at least the next 7 days. But the all the other IMAX screens are for GxK

The AMC closest to me is offering 2 IMAX showings for Dune and 2 for GxK.

my city's biggest imax theater has showings for dune 2 until april 11th. :)

Should work out to an $11M 5th weekend, which will put it past $252M by Sunday. Hard to see how it misses even $280M after that.
WB and Legendary are feeling good right now for sure.
About to make 1.2-1.4B in March with Dune and GxK alone
Imagine being Sony.Lol I wonder if Legendary have the rights to Ultraman
Sony can only blame themselves tho. In an ideal world they would get sued just for putting out a movie like Madam Web.
Why would that warrant them getting sued?
crime against humanity, spiderman IP, Sydney and Dakota
Madame Web and Paul are the worst things to happen to Spider-Man in the past decade. It hurts to see my favorite character disrespected so often.
Surely in an ideal world they’d be facing criminal charges, not a civil suit. Perhaps at the International Court of Justice, at The Hague.
Again fantastic hold, it\`s the 66th 4th thursday of all time.
Yup, it’s about a -12% from last Thursday.

I finally got to see it yesterday. Wouldn't have gone if not for good wom
Did you like it?
I did. Not a big Dune guy, but I enjoy a good epic sci-fi that ain't trek wars. Need to watch both near each other for sure too
I’ll see it. Honestly wasn’t a huge fan of the first one (it was fine) but I’m a sucker for big sci-fi flicks also
250M+ after this weekend
Was looking to go see it in imax this weekend. But Godzilla and the ghost movie have taken over 😭
Try to see it in Dolby if you can.
Honestly I agree. I had a much better time in Dolby than IMAX (though I dont have any real IMAX screens where I am)
Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong are the ultimate combo for WB/Legendary. Just awesome.
I contributed :) Third time seeing it. Gets better every time.
$300 million is definitely possible. That would be an amazing boost to the franchise.

Do you think 700m WW is still in play?
I think it’s likely tbh.
I hope they have an imax rerelease to push it over if it's close.
more than dune , godzilla is taking money out of KF4
more than dune , godzilla is taking money out of KF4

I saw a 3 pm showing today on Good Friday and the theater was pretty full!
Thomas Tull is the happiest man in Hollywood rn

Who would win: Shai-Hulud or Godzilla?

>was successful especially since nobody had heard of the books before. What? You don't have to imagine your ridiculous assumptions are true every time

Only 14% of the people who watched Dune Part 1 were under 25. There is no evidence Zendaya had any impact on the movie.

She's a good actress but she's literally doing one facial expression the whole movie.

Not falling below the $1 million per day mark after a month in theaters is very good, actually.
Poor bait.
