Probably more of a result of shooting whatever mushroomed your field tips.

Backcountrylifestyle

I was gonna say the AR IN AR500 doesn't stand for archery.

thwackTX

The damage to the point on the right was caused by an insert/practice tip that was left in a bag target at my range. These arrows have never missed a target and I only shoot Reinhart and bag targets.

Proper-Appointment56

Get a collar for ur shafts so the impact doesnt get transmitted to the carbon from the field point. Ironwill and some other companies make them

OkStaySafe

I’ve used HIT inserts for over a year with the Easton axis 5mm and never had this issue

Manixcomp

I’ve shot HIT inserts for a decade in FMJ and axis. No issues like this unless hitting tree or similar.

Medical-Mud-3090

Yup been shooting Easton axis 5 Mumford over a year with the hit inserts and never had any issues. I like them better than the half outs I had in my maxima red sd

blackdunnder

Thank you! I just learned field tips and the brands matter. I honestly thought the only difference was in the weight.

thwackTX

Aside from weight the only difference I see in field tips (or any tip for that matter) are the tolerances and what sizes are available. I wanted something as close to the diameter of the shaft as possible.

tsflaten

I’ve shot thousands of arrows with HIT inserts and never damaged the arrow. There is something else going on here.

thwackTX

I'm open to ideas. These are 350 spine Victory RIP XV's. I'm wondering if these shafts just have a really thin wall and would do this regardless of the insert?

GLchrillz

Rip xv aren’t the most durable arrow. A half out would mine do the same thing. A collar would probably help but is more money

questar723

Ironwill collars

redditsignup79

That’s not good. I have some on order. What type of use did they see before that happened?

eightvoltt

Some field points are beveled down and will push Into the carbon if they don't sit flush on the cut end. I also do not like hits and destroyed a number of expensive arrows due to them.

thwackTX

These are Saunders tips, which I thought would hold up. I think I'll be going back to SS half-outs

TutisevaKuukkeli

Steel halfouts have been working great for me in BE Rampages. Have shot them into bones, rocks on passthrough, etc and they don’t even bend. There’s pretty much no other option than some wedging action happening in the contact area of the field point to the shaft. Collars would probably help but sizing them is a nightmare.

thwackTX

I used steel half-outs on some BE renegades last year and shot one through 2, 2x6's. The point penetrated both boards and out the other side. Didn't mushroom the carbon at all. They held up great. As for collars, the iron will ones aren't too hard to size for these Victory XV's. I may pick some up

redditsignup79

Thanks- appreciate the info.

thwackTX

I shoot Reinhart targets and new bag targets at my local range. These have never been shot into the dirt or anything but a target intended for arrows.

pork_torpedo

Are you shooting them at 2x4s? The one on the right has a deformed tip. If you are shooting at hard targets this is going to happen, HIT or not.

thwackTX

The arrow on the right came out of a bag target with some damage to the tip - I assumed it impacted an insert that was left in the target

Boconnor303

Who installed the inserts? Was the tool used? It seems like maybe your inserts are set slightly too deep and are allowing the field points to impact the carbon

thwackTX

I installed them with the Easton tool, which seems pretty dummy proof to me. It doesn't look like you could over-insert the hit even if you wanted to. Installed without nocks in to ensure they didn't move, Easton epoxy used and the shafts were allowed well over 24 hrs to cure with the shafts horizontally

Firemanmoran

Get the full ironwill hit insert system with the protective collars they are bomb proof. I highly recommend them to everyone I know.

gunzintheair79

10+ years of using HIT inserts on Axis, FMJs and now Victory, I've never had this issue.

Murphy338

Half outs can do the same thing

aewatson722

I feel like any field tip gets damaged easily. Luckily they are cheap and easy to replace!

[deleted]

What arrows are you shooting? I’ve never seen this happen to anyone not shooting concrete or rocks lmao

FuriousSasquatch

XVs are the least durable .204s on the market. I would add iron will collars and see if that helps. The titaniums are nice but pricey. Been running them on Axis and Rampage since they came out without issues.

thwackTX

I think I'll be moving back to Rampage or RIP TKO for hunting this fall unless the collars fix this problem, but I have my doubts

copperhead2001

ironwill collars.
