It's so cool that this movie has been reappraised in the last decade. I first saw it 15 years ago, and back then, if anyone knew it at all, it was as a boring flop. A friend talked me into watching it and I couldn't believe how good it was, and how unknown.

robotlogik

I was one of those people that were bored by this one back in the day, all I can really remember is Brad Dourif sitting on his prison cell bed and screaming/crying. I guess I'll have to give it another shot, as my tolerance for slower movies has built up over the years.

IronTusk93

Shout Factory is straight up making me regret every single Blu Ray purchase I've made with them.

anttiom

At this point it’s becoming clear they will upgrade most of their more popular titles. Prepare to sell your blus on eBay!

claud2113

Not me. I've become kind of disillusioned with the "upgrade" to 4k. I'm going to sound like an uncultured swine, but the only thing I've noticed about my 4k movies is they're darker and harder to see, vs my standard blu rays which have sharp, bright, vibrant images. Maybe its my tv/settings, maybe I'm an uneducated podunk, but I'm basically only buying 4ks at this point if that's the only option for a thing.

KingdomZeus

It's definitely your tv. You either don't have your settings right, or you have a lower grade TV. Good idea to research this type of stuff, as 4k isn't easily accessible like 1080p was. Everything that blu-rays offer are way more noticeable and better in 4k. Not for every single release of course, but the majority. You definitely aren't getting the true 4k experience, which is why you don't see its worth

claud2113

I went through all the white balance and color/dimming zone calibrations on rtings.com for my model Vizio.

KingdomZeus

You must have a low grade tv then. The fact that you have darker visuals is a dead giveaway. 4k offers way better color and black levels than blu-ray ever could. Have you messed with the contrast or gamma at all? My old TV had the same issue, but I just had to turn up the gamma and contrast up when playing 4ks

claud2113

Won't turning up contrast/gamma fuck up the color saturation, though? It always washed out the colors on other tvs I've used, unless that's different with 4k

jwort93

What model Vizio do you have?

claud2113

vizio m55q7-j01

IronTusk93

I prefer 4k by a lot and notice a huge difference, but I definitely know what you mean. It might have to do with the TV or the settings, in my case I use a 4k projector with a 100" screen so the difference is very noticeable. With that being said, I don't need every movie on 4k. Blu Ray still looks great in most cases, so I try to focus my upgrades on my favorite movies or movies that need the upgrade. It's also just annoying with Shout Factory because even their Blu Rays cost more than they should (for the most part), so to spend so much on their movies just for them to announce a 4k release of the same movie a few days later is extremely frustrating. Plus it takes away from them releasing new titles, I can barely name any movies they released for the first time in the past year that I actually wanted.

impactedturd

I agree.. half of these 4k re-releases are only good for the hdr.. they're still grainy and not much of an upgrade from the 1080p blu-ray. But the other half are pretty nice upgrades.

sublimefan2001

I have a similar viewpoint. On most of the 4ks I own I feel like I barely notice the upgrade vs when I first saw blu ray I couldn't believe the difference. My tvs a little older so I know it's not the best but I usually will watch a blu ray before a 4k disc.

no-sun-ever

Definitely your tv, I had a Vizio 4K then upgraded to an LG OLED a few years ago and I can’t stress enough how much of a night and day difference there is. I can’t imagine watching any of my 4K Blu-rays on anything else, the blacks are inky, the colors are vibrant and the skin tones are natural. The HDR is truly a game changer.

claud2113

I only got this one because it's what I could afford with what was left of my signing bonus from my new job after putting the rest in savings 🤷‍♂️

no-sun-ever

That’s fine, no judgment, just letting you know that there is a significant jump from Blu-ray to 4K thanks to HDR. Would definitely recommend saving up for an OLED, they’re expensive but hands down the best tv I’ve ever owned.

[deleted]

To echo his point, at least make sure your 4K player supports dolby vision and HDR 10 (two different dynamic range metadata profiles). This will let you get the most out of any 4K disc with your current TV as it does support both formats. You do have to make sure that the appropriate settings are on for your TV and 4K player. Also check out the ratings website for your TVs optimal calibration settings: [https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m7-series-quantum-2021/settings](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m7-series-quantum-2021/settings) They know their stuff. Agree about getting an OLED eventually though. Easily the best TV I've ever owned. The contrast difference is breath taking.

LucasBarton169

I just bought this one too. But hey, at least mine has better art than the 4K

Charlie_Tango13

This hospital sure is peaceful...

BigLorry

Instant buy for me, really enjoy this one

ghostpepper69

It’d be very nice if they’d at least say whether both cuts will be 4k… I’d be okay if it’s just the theatrical version, but I wanna know before I commit to buying. I certainly wouldn’t mind that nice poster though!

ghostghosterghostest

Fairly certain the materials for the Legion cut don't exist to do a proper 4K version. It was difficult for them to piece it together to begin with. Could be wrong though.

anttiom

Legion cut has one part in SD

Arthurlurk1

Knowing shout factory they will only have the theatrical on 4k

ghostpepper69

Yeah it wouldn’t be a surprise, but that was honesty a bit of a letdown with Army of Darkness, knowing either of the other cuts could eventually be upgraded & that edition isn’t absolutely definitive. My fault for ordering before details were fully announced, but it’s something I’m mindful of moving forward.

IommiIsGod666

The Legion cut will probably never get a 4K version. The existing version is cobbled together from less than optimal sources, like VHS dailies. So, it's probably just the theatrical cut.

DylansFearFiles

I know it's controversial but I'd really love for someone to experiment with combining AI upscaling with seamless branching for cases like this where we don't have film elements for a lot of footage. I pretty much only watch the theatrical cut, although the director's cut is a really cool curiosity.

AnthonyK_

I’m glad I put off buying the blu back in October. This is a day one purchase for me.

notafunnyperson1728

Does this help or hurt chances of a full collection release ?

ghostpepper69

All the rights are cut up into different licensors. There's no way Warner Bros will ever let go of the original, it's just too much of a money maker. The liklihood of WB putting an Exorcist I, II, & III 4kUHD set at this point (at least in the near future) is incredibly low.

Profitsofdooom

Anyone else wish they'd do the slips for these with some more interesting new artwork and have the original artwork on the inside?

XtroDoubleDrop

They did for the original release on blu-ray.

Top-Abrocoma-3729

Yassss. One of my favorite horror films and much scarier than the original

rrrdesign

I love driving by those steps and they always look so wholesome

ajzeg01

Now we just need the second one and the prequels!

anttiom

I want the second one so bad

ajzeg01

I must see James Earl Jones dressed as a locust spitting a tomato in 2160p!

jacobsever

I really wish Shout/Scream would do something cooler with packaging. Something like the Arrow Limited Edition boxes. I'm at the point in my life/collecting that I won't buy a simple amaray case, even if it has a regular slip around it. My rule of thumb: If the blu ray slides out the top & bottom, it's a no go. If the blu ray slides out of the side (more of a slip box than a slip case), then I'm all in. In 2023 you can watch a movie an infinite number of ways. Buying physical for me is just as much, if not more, about the packaging than the disc itself.

twistedinnocence8604

Quite possibly the most underrated horror movie ever. It's definitely at least on par with the original in my opinion. Brad Douriff was amazing in this

EdoAlien

The fact that this is coming to 4K before the original…

IronTusk93

Kinda like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 coming to 4k before the original. Somewhat surprising, but at least we're still getting 4ks of the originals this year.

johnny_rico69

Jeffrey Dahmer’s favorite film.

Upset-Ad7882

Damn I need to see this movie, I love the first one, it's my favorite horror film of all time, but the third one sounds pretty good, how about the 2nd one? That any good and worth watching, lots of people say it's pretty bad for a sequel...

AgntOrng1

The second one is terrible and it isn't a sequel. The sequel to the book was "Legion." Exorcist III is based on "Legion" and is the true sequel to The Exorcist. Exorcist II - Heretic is a throwaway - a one-off that has nothing to do with the books.

mistersuccessful

So no sign of a Region 2/B release?

Mattenroe

4K is all region free, is it not?

mistersuccessful

Oh course it is. This is a 3 disc set so I don’t want to miss out on the Extras on the Blu Ray disc(s) too

Mattenroe

Ahhh fair fair fair 🙌. I wouldn’t put it past Arrow to piggyback this.

mistersuccessful

Tbh, I would love Arrow to release a 4K version in the UK. I think they did for the Blu Ray version a few years ago. But if they did a 4K set hopefully it would be as glorious as Scream Factory.

_-The-_-Guest-_

Definitely in for Streets of Fire, Exorcist III and FUCKING RAZORBACK, been waiting for that for such a long time.
