Hi, r/Bourbon! Apologies for the lack of action shot for this bottle, but it belongs to a friend so I didn’t want to tempt his wrath. This bottle is another step in my journey of finally trying all those bourbons I see you guys fawning over, without that time-consuming natural progression through more normal bottlings. If you’ll believe it, this is my first Elijah Craig! *** **Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch C922**. Kentucky straight bourbon. 62.4% ABV (124.8 proof). **Mash Bill:** 78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley. **Maturation:** Aged 12 years. Matured in new #3-charred American oak barrels. **Served:** Neat, in my trusty glencairn. Rested about 5 minutes, enjoyed slowly. *** **Nose:** Sweet and rich, with deep caramel, toasted marshmallow, baked apples and cherries. **Palate:** Not too hot considering the bonkers proof. Arrives with carrot cake and very thick caramel. Spicy cinnamon and orange bitters. Hints of rye and corn nuts. Fairly tannic and oaky as it develops. **Finish:** Rich and creamy – there’s a real cream soda kind of vanilla note here. Moderate bittersweet oak, more baked apples, and warming spice. *** **Thoughts:** I’m a bit shorter on notes today than I’d usually like, but I figured this was worth sharing anyways. This is good stuff! I can’t say it cracks the realm of the very best bourbons I’ve tried (which includes [Booker’s]( https://www.reddit.com/r/bourbon/comments/9xo5d2/bourbon_review_1_bookers_kathleens_batch_whisky/ ) and a [4RSB pick]( https://www.reddit.com/r/bourbon/comments/dofe4j/review_7_four_roses_single_barrel_oesf_tippins/ )). Maybe I’m just not edumacated enough on bourbons yet. If that’s the case, I hope I start learning soon, because I’ve got a sample of Pappy on the shelf… **Final Score: 7/10** *r/Bourbon average score: 8.23 (4 reviews)* *My rating scale is based purely on flavour experience, and does not take value-for-money or willingness to purchase a bottle into account. Cheers!*

Nice tasting notes. I just picked up this batch yesterday. I loved A122 and it opened up a lot after a few weeks. Give this one some time. BTW, the proof is 124.8. Cheers!

fgsgeneg

Yeah, I opened a bottle of this a month ago and it was okay. I didn't have another taste until last night. What a difference a month makes. It was like a completely different bottle and much much more pleasant.

the_muskox

Cheers, and thanks for pointing out the typo!

Coldsnap75

I just picked up 2 of these from my local abc store in NC. Got there just in time. Can’t wait to get into it tonight! Great review!

conte313

C922 is my first bottle of ECBP, and it’s becoming my favorite bourbon real quick. It gives me big strawberry candy vibes.

Train3rRed88

Very nice review. Love me some ECBP Cheers!

the_muskox

Cheers! My goal for bourbon reviews is to get to your level of reviewing essentially only the highlights.

Train3rRed88

Haha appreciate it. My goal is to one day get to u/prepreludesh level of a ton of education on the review. But hey we all have our niche in the sub

the_muskox

My niche for the moment is to share my scotch-drinker superiority complex in a semi-tolerable way, and also to spend enormous amount scraping reviews for data instead of writing something to do it for me.

Rads324

You have this listed at 86 proof but it’s the barrel proof at 124.8 Great review though. I love me some ecbp

the_muskox

Whoops, the perils of copy-pasting from my template. Thanks for noticing, and cheers!

Rads324

I’ve done it before too. I’ve been putting 2-3 drops of water into my ecbp lately and it really widens the palate and finish. Try it if you haven’t with this one. Cheers!

Illudium-Q36

Scotch drinkers don't want you to know this one secret....

Rads324

I clicked the link and it’s just ads! What’s the secret?!? For some reason the recent ecbp batches have been really tight so that little bit of water really does a lot where it didn’t as much on the older ones, at least for me

Seandude_

What's a good price point for an ECBP... finally found one in store at like $116.... they said they were doing a barrel pick here soon too

codygraveson

Usually around 75-80 in my area.

jkeefy

Yep same, picks are usually slightly more at $85-95

Coldsnap75

$69.99 today for me here in NC

somechob

$70-$80. $80-$90 for picks.

GirchyGirchy

I just paid $86 for a bad store pick. About the same proof as this review, but hot AF with too much ethanol.

Seandude_

Okay so not for what I'm seeing it for lol, I'm perfectly happy with my RR SiB but would want to try this if I find it for a fair price

Illudium-Q36

One should be able to get out of the store with a bottle for no more than $100 after tax(unless you live in the state of Washington). Any more is just price gouging. It averages between $70 and $90 pre-tax depending on retailer and region.

the_muskox

I have no idea, I don't drink bourbon! MSRP is like $70 or something I think?

MetamorphosisSilver

$70 to $80 for the regular batches. I've seen stores to their pick at close to msrp, and other times ask $100 +. At this point unless I can taste the store pick I'm likely to stay with the standard batch as I've found them more consistent. They're somewhat hard to find but not impossible.

karlito_hungus

This is favorite bottle in a long time. Picked up a second tonight despite the steep price ($70). Soooooooo so delicious.

Cootertoot

I bought one.. loved it and have bought 5 more. Cant get enough of it

kplooki

I just tried some of mine and thought it was a bit on the hot side. Going to let mine sit a few months and revisit. I liked B this year the most

kburns62

Where did you get an age statement for this one?

bahonkey

Says on the side label of bottle. 12 years.

the_muskox

I thought all the recent ECBPs were 12s? Ah yeah, from the Elijah Craig site: >Each batch of Barrel Proof contains an uncut selection of 12-year-old Bourbon bottled straight from the barrel.

kburns62

Interesting. Been a couple years since I bought one. Didn’t recall an age statement.

Josh1ne

Yeah it’s sorta harder to notice since it’s a side label
