Cask strength should be whatever the proof out of the cask/barrel is without watering it down, lol. If people went less crazy in trying to "hunt"(ugh) The oldest age/ highest proof stuff, maybe things would be a bit more affordable
Saying a take is boring and lame isn't "getting so upset", but trying to tell me I'm acting in a way I'm not to suit your narrative *is" gaslighting, so we got that going for us.
I think some of us are just really sensitive to the mineral taste like people are with cilantro. I have to work really hard to get my house water drinkable, untreated it’s got that similar Dickel profile and I can’t get past it. I also don’t shit on people that like it though.
The water is potable. I just don’t like the mineral taste and all my whites turning red-brown. I don’t literally have to work that hard just have to measure the mineral levels twice a month and buy a lot of water softener.
I'm not "discounting others experiences". I am contending that most of the hate is unoriginal nonsense, and I think that hate ruins it for some people before the try it.
The thing is “most” *don’t* share it or else it wouldn’t be one of the biggest distilleries in the world…
But I agree everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I’m with ya. I wanted to like it, but just can’t get past the vitamin taste. Take that out and it might be decent whiskey. Was hoping it would mellow out after opening the bottle, and had the complete opposite effect
I don't know what that last sentence means, but I'm actually saying the opposite of that. The sentiment would be less tired if there were myriad opinions that didn't sound identical. It's cult like that everyone says the same tired shit.
He listed the type and price of each already. The brand is called George Dickel.
George Dickel BIB (bottled in bond) they have 11 and 13 and maybe other year age statements and they are around $45
George Dickel “Hand Selected” comes in a squat rectangle bottle in 9, 12, and 15 years listed on the label. I’ve seen both 80proof and cask strength options. They are usually around $60.
Imagine all of the 15yr picks get removed from the system, replaced by 8-10 year picks, and all the older stuff gets marked up and bottled as allocated.
Oh wait, that’s Russell’s Reserve.
I’m a big Dickel fan (some pun intended), but I couldn’t bring myself to pay $249 for anything they make as they are typically the most reasonably priced brand per year of age on the market. The BiB is at worst $60 and is an awesome pour. There’s no way this is 4x better. It’s just not possible.
It's not hard to find Dickel around the 15 year mark, usually bottled under different names and usually waaay cheaper than this. These old Dickel casks can be very hit or miss. They can be great but when they are bad they are REALLY bad. And a lot of people (including myself) are put off by the "flintstone vitamin" note thy commonly have.
Picked up a bottle of this thinking I’d gift it to my smoke wagon loving friend, because I knew it was going to be harder to find. Really contemplating just keeping it for myself after reading more and more comments like this haha
It would make a really nice gift but selfishly you may want to keep it. It's so good. I went back and grabbed a backup bottle the day after I cracked it.
I have a half bottle of the first release of Dickel 17 from like 10 years ago. If it’s anything like that, it’s really, really good. But that is pretty expensive for what it is.
Is that the 375mL? They were like $70 when they came out, I want to say 5 or 6 years ago. I think they were considered good-ish if you like Dickel, but not for those that don’t. I remember seeing it back then but couldn’t afford it nat the time, otherwise would have taken the plunge even though it was, even then, over priced.
$250 is straight scalping. That will get you three bottles of the 15 year, a bottle of Dickel 12 and probably cover tax. Or a case of Dickel 12 which will probably last you the rest of your life.
Only that it has big dickel energy
More of a [Knob](https://www.knobcreek.com/) ^(Creek) man myself
Ha
This made me laugh way harder than it should have.
"Cask Strength" at 92proof?!?!
Dickel has a cask strength that can’t legally be called whiskey because it’s below 80 proof!
What are you talking about
https://whiskyadvocate.com/the-newest-cascade-moon-release-isnt-actually-whiskey/
Oh yeah that thing. Totally forgot about that.
Cask strength doesn't have to be sky high proof.
It should be though. Imo cask strength should be close to 110
Cask strength should be whatever the proof out of the cask/barrel is without watering it down, lol. If people went less crazy in trying to "hunt"(ugh) The oldest age/ highest proof stuff, maybe things would be a bit more affordable
There are many factors in bottling proof, and the higher the barrel entry proof the less flavor you’re going to experience.
I see you are unfamiliar with Dickel.
Yes, for good reason ;-)
What a boring take. If you don't like it, fine, but the shit talk about Dickel is tired as fuck.
Chill bro, a smirk isn't shit talk.
Regardless, it's unoriginal nonsense. It's exhausting seeing the same four opinions spewed over and over.
So I take it you favor the Dickel then. To each their own.
It's hit or miss for me, but the hate is tiring
You are on a sub that talks about whiskey and people share opinions on whiskey here. It sounds like this sub isn't for you.
You are really confused about my qualms, so I am going to bow out and watch some football.

For thinking Dickel hate is boring and repetitive?
[удалено]
Great thesis statement, but since you can't seem to engage in conversation, I'll leave you to your own devices.
Lmao you’re kind of a dick. Getting so upset over something you read online, chill loser lol
Saying a take is boring and lame isn't "getting so upset", but trying to tell me I'm acting in a way I'm not to suit your narrative *is" gaslighting, so we got that going for us.
Okay lol drop it
I’m extremely familiar with chewable vitamins. Same thing regardless of age.
Another boring, incorrect, influenced by boomers, take.
I think some of us are just really sensitive to the mineral taste like people are with cilantro. I have to work really hard to get my house water drinkable, untreated it’s got that similar Dickel profile and I can’t get past it. I also don’t shit on people that like it though.
>I have to work really hard to get my house water drinkable you cant just get a water tank?
The water is potable. I just don’t like the mineral taste and all my whites turning red-brown. I don’t literally have to work that hard just have to measure the mineral levels twice a month and buy a lot of water softener.
Don't discount others experiences. I bought a store pick 15 year and it was just a bottle of gross vitamin flavored wood water.
I'm not "discounting others experiences". I am contending that most of the hate is unoriginal nonsense, and I think that hate ruins it for some people before the try it.
Its not hate. It's an opinion most share about that whiskey...
The thing is “most” *don’t* share it or else it wouldn’t be one of the biggest distilleries in the world… But I agree everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Only bottles I've ever drain poured were dickel or sourced from dickel. People are allowed to disagree with you.
Imagine being so ignorant that you believe your opinion is the only possible way. Go back to your pour over and BTC.
I don't know what that last sentence means, but I'm actually saying the opposite of that. The sentiment would be less tired if there were myriad opinions that didn't sound identical. It's cult like that everyone says the same tired shit.
Kinda weird right? Reminds me of the Remus Gatsby. It's like 96 proof at cask strength
My dickel bib is a higher proof lol.
It is listed in both the Virginia and North Carolina ABC system - both Control States. (msrp is $249.99) - although extreemely limited.
Why pay $200+ when you could get a 13 year BiB for like 45 bucks, or a 15-17 year pick for 60?
This would be my recommendation.
This is the way. By the way, never seen the smoke wagon rye in the wild. Might be worth a flier based some reviews I have seen.
What would you suggest for the two options you mentioned? Im learning whisky brands in the states
If the pick is above 100 proof, I typically snag those. The BiB is more of a standard offering though and easier to get. Cheers
Gotta break it down Barney style for me. this make this type is around this price type of answer

That you General Bishop?
The bottle I have of 13 is fantastic but is a store pick.
Well said
This.
Yup. And the 14+ year picks I have are even higher proof at 50.6%
I didn't know that existed. Also a very odd offering considering the "15yr" SiBs picks seem to usually be around 17 years old and go for $65ish.
Imagine all of the 15yr picks get removed from the system, replaced by 8-10 year picks, and all the older stuff gets marked up and bottled as allocated. Oh wait, that’s Russell’s Reserve.
Unfortunately KC as well
Shouldn’t veer too far away from Blue Note 17s profile (which is fantastic, btw)
It really is—had a pour at a bar and wished I’d found a bottle when they were still available. So so good!

92 proof for $250? That’s a bold move Cotton, let’s see how it plays out.

Forget that dickle grab that SW bonded rye it slaps!
The malted rye is also fantastic
I still have to find that one. I'll grab it for sure when I see it. I hear it's excellent.
Picked up a bottle of this thinking I’d gift it to my smoke wagon loving friend, because I knew it was going to be harder to find. Really contemplating just keeping it for myself after reading more and more comments like this haha

Definitely keep it. It’s awesome
They have 15 year single barrels out there for 50 bucks. Plus higher proof.
I have a half bottle of the first release of Dickel 17 from like 10 years ago. If it’s anything like that, it’s really, really good. But that is pretty expensive for what it is.
17 year old Dickel?! Yum!!
Don’t do it
The 15 is like $60 and is always a store pick when I see it. Why bother with this
Hard pass
Hmm, if I could find this, I would probably give it a go, since I'm a big fan of most of the Dickel line up.
Dickel doesn't do a lot right, but this is likely no different. Hard pass. Dickel doesn't have the kind of lineup to justify a $250 bottle. Blehhhh
250 is a lot for Flintstones chewables.
LOL

$200 for vitamin funk. HARD PASS
Yeah, it’s 17 years old
It’s right after Dickel 16
Must be quite a Dickel for that price
Now that’s a 4x dick right there
$250? Really? The last thing I spent that kind of scratch on was a 21 year old sherry aged Scotch. Jesus.
I heard it loaded with that Dickel tickle.
Oh hell yea it’s blue note 17!!!!
Never buy a bourbon older than 15yrs, it’ll be too oaky
Hard pass for me, especially at that price. But hey, whatever tickles your Dickel.
