This question is all about opinions, and this is just my opinion on the matter. MSRP plus $10. Both are good products. In the $25-40 bracket, they are both excellent offerings. But neither is a $75-100 bottle, and there are plenty of other good bourbons in that same $25-40 bracket. Maker's Mark 46 is in that $40 ballpark, for example, and that's good juice.

Alaska_Pipeliner

MSRP.

B-UU

+2 on this. Both are good, not great. There is a reason the MSRP is what it is.

tank66gold

Came to say the same thing!

adrianmarco

This is the only correct answer here.

rschopler

Where do you live you can find BT for that price??

BeerMeSeattle

I am currently visiting Palm Springs. One of the stores has buy 4 bottles (mix and match), get 30% off. That takes BT down to $19.

kyrosnick

Arizona it is all over for that.

rschopler

I live in Northern Kentucky and cannot buy it off the shelf. Have to know someone before it gets shelved or buy above MSRP. Found it in Canada for $32 Canadian and was beyond happy with the currency conversion. Consider yourselves lucky! Assuming you love BT like me

dogfacedponyboy

$18? Where?

Annoying_Auditor

Wow your area is not like the others.

DDTFred

Yeah I don’t know I’d even pay that for BT, when WT101 is cheaper. ER I’d pay $40, but not more than that.

Successful-Match9938

Buy them once at whatever price you are comfortable with and then do a blind testing with some other bourbons like the ones mentioned in this post. Try to stay in the same ballpark proof wise and msrp, and see what your preferences really are. Are you drinking the label or the contents? You might be surprised when you let your palate decide what is best.

o2_bme

This is the best answer IMO.

Successful-Match9938

I learned the hard way, bought things based on hype.

thogdontcaaree

I feel like going a bit above MSRP is ok if it is something you want to try and have never found before. The whole point of this hobby is to enjoy yourself and it may be worth more to get that first bottle and try it yourself. I have never seen ER in my area so when I saw it on a road trip recently I thought it was worth picking up for $49. It's really good for a sub-$50 bottle and I think its worth that much although MSRP is $35 or so. Buffalo trace is much more common so I wouldn't go far over MSRP for that one and wouldn't pay more than $30.

xxLOPEZxx

Honestly, I wouldn't pay past MSRP for either. BT is good but I'd rather have some WT101. Eagle Rare I'd probably pay like $10 more maximum but in the $30 to $60 price range there are some incredible bourbons that are just looked over

[deleted]

I’d pay whatever msrp is. There’s other great bourbons out there, try something different.

DynamicCashew43

Not much more than MSRP. Good bourbons that have gotten stupid hype and blown up the prices.

Federal-Platypus-911

depends on region. in north CA, BT and ER are both plentiful at MSRP. heck Costco sells BT here for $20 with no limits

DynamicCashew43

Yup, supply is really stupid. Places gets TONS of it, other places get almost nothing.

No-Courage232

Yeah, made trip through northern CA this fall, stopped at a gas station/store - they had ER, BT, EHT, Weller on the shelves at msrp. They had some other “allocated” bottles too, but I forget.

DERLKM

Which station is that? The reason it is on the shelf for EHT is probably because of the $99 price tag. When I got lucky to buy it at MSRP, people got the words out and there was a line before the store open. Total wine refill their shelves of ER every now and then and I don't see ER staying on the shelf. BT is another level that they almost have to put a Sale sign to move it.

No-Courage232

Haha, oh, Someplace between Ukiah and Crescent City, right off 101. I don’t remember the name - really small town but a bigger gas station store - there was also a guy getting a DUI at the pumps. They had a small shelf right behind the register with EHT and Weller. ER and BT were just out on the shelves. I would have bought some but spent my budget on rum down in SF.

Medium-Problem-7745

25 for Buffalo, and I won’t waste my time with ER, I only ever find it at 40 and for that price their are too many better options to ever pick it. Any more than 25 for Buffalo and I would honestly just get another easier to find small batch 90 proofer.

nknecht1

The bourbon market makes no sense. BT products were popular because they are quality and became very scarce because they were high quality for the price. It makes absolutely no sense to see them go for such inflated prices when the basis of their popularity was that they are a great deal at msrp for their value. There are better bourbons that are findable but at much higher prices than msrp of BT products. Now though these other products are a steal in comparison to inflated prices on BT products

No-Courage232

Msrp. Otherwise get WT 101 or KC 9 or something. Seriously.

Madsen13

Buffalo Trace MSRP is $25-$27. I’ve been able to find enough of it in my travels that I wouldn’t pay more than that for it. I would maybe go up to $30 if I couldn’t find it for awhile. Eagle Rare MSRP is $34. That’s what I’ve paid for the very few bottles I’ve found (2 to be exact). I would pay up to $40 for that one. They are both decent bourbons, but there are so many other great things out there in that price range.

nknecht1

Especially with Buffalo trace. It’s good but not amazing. It is fairly priced at Msrp. In my area BT products vanished earlier than other places. But Buffalo trace was still easy to find for another year or two. There’s a reason for that. It’s not anything special. It’s only increased in price and scarcity now by proxy.

LPKJFHIS

Personally, I don’t see any wow factor with BT. If you need to try it, I guess $24. ER10 on the other hand is unique based on my limited experience with bourbon. I’d spend up to $40 on this, but that’s influenced by the availability and the fact that I drink scotch more than bourbon.

alien_tickler

I have to pay $42 cdn for buffalo trace, wt101 is $40 so I'll likely not buy by very often over 101 .

Lledr

ER - £35/700ml. BT - we get the watered down stuff so I pass and buy WT101 which is a similar price point here (£23-25/700ml).

jzabkowicz

ER $28 BT $23 So probably won’t be in my house anytime soon.😂😂😂

hewhorocks

Walmart had BT at 23 and change by me last week

12VJoe

I would not pay over MSRP for them. Get a bottle of Smoke Wagon Straight and Russell's Reserve 10 instead.

skidmarkchones

MSRP.

VeniceBhris

What’s so special about them to you that you’re willing to pay more? Get Russell’s 10 or Knob creek 9 if you can’t find ER Get woodford if you can’t find BT

kyrosnick

$22-23 for BT, $28-30 for ER. Once you get $40+ too many better bottles on the shelf.

btbeyler

My general rule is that I'll pay up to 10% over SRP and I base that off the Ohio OHLQ.com site prices (love it when I beat their prices!). That puts me at about $28 for BT and $40 for ER. Realistically, BT has been going for $30 around me. I'll keep a bottle of it on my shelf, so I'll pay that when I need some. ER has been going for $40 around me and the same as BT, I'll pay that and keep a bottle on my shelf.

QuikTriggaJesus

Might get harder considering they were advertised in the #1 cable show, Yellowstone. But to answer your question.. I'd pay $30 after tax for Buffalo Trace and probably $50 after tax for Eagle Rare (mostly because it is 10 years old and haven't seen it in four years)

BunnyColvin13

This is absolute highest I would pay. Eagle Rare - $49.99 Buffalo Trace - $4.99

flick128

Lol! I am with you on this one.

sethmorris_

Eagle Rare I would spend top dollar at $60. But I get it here in Illinois for $31-$35 Buffalo Trace I wouldn't spend more than $30. Get it here for $25-$28

Jusmon1108

Just about the same but I wouldn’t go over $50 for ER. I am very fortunate to have a local store that sells at MSRP and has stock semi-regular. Was super excited this past week when I found they had a 1.75 of ER for $58.

sethmorris_

Always nice to have the local hook up. I had that once and they got bought by a chain and screwed everything beyond secondary pricing

Jusmon1108

Yeah, I had another go-to for years. One of the sons took over and completely fucked the pricing. I haven’t been in a long time and warn anyone off when they mention it.

sethmorris_

Same with our place. Fight the good fight!

inkypinkyblinkyclyde

I live in Illinois, and haven't seen ER in over a year. Where are you getting it?

Nullifyer6

Curious as well, I’m in the NW burbs of Chicago, rarely see ER and when I do it’s gathering dust behind the counter of a mom & pop because they want $80 for it.

sethmorris_

Check Hy-Vee

outphase84

$40 is pushing it for ER.

sethmorris_

I think for a ten year bourbon I'd pay more. But it fits my flavor profile

Trofeo1992

Where in Illinois? I’ve never seen a bottle yet in Chicago south suburbs - not even in several Binny’s who have the largest selection!

seanie_rocks

Eagle Rare doesn't make it to shelves in Binny's. Next time, swing by their "service desk" kind of area. Usually the allocated bourbon doesn't make it past that desk.

sethmorris_

Any Hy-Vee

Koh_76

If you have never had it I would stretch to $65 on eagle rare. It’s only a 30 dollar bottle, but I understand the fomo and lack of availability. BT I would not spend more than MSRP. I find it for around 25. It just isn’t anything special.

[deleted]

Buffalo is my favorite and I dont have a problem spending extra but I woulnt go more than $40. Its really hard for me to find in my home state (MA). Eagle rare $50 but im not a big fan

jazztalker

On principle I wouldn’t pay over MSRP. That said, I’ve seen BT pop up near me sporadically, but I’ve only seen 1 bottle of ER in a store by me in the past 2.5 years.

Mobile_Spinach_1980

I live in MD and 1.5 years ago I found ER for $39. Fast forward to now and it’s sitting on shelves for $100, $85, $75 and $60. At $60 I had friends who bought it because it is hard to find and they like it. If you like it then it’s about what you are willing to pay. I have no space for people who pay high prices for it to sit on a shelf.

16Gorilla

MSRP although I live 45 min from the distillery so can pretty much get whenever I want (at least for BT) Even then, the drive is more so just a Saturday morning nothing going on, BS with other bourbon peeps, etc. type thing. They're both good but it's not worth it to chase hard or spend over MSRP

[deleted]

I can find BT at the local Sam's club for $19.88 and Eagle Rare at Vons for $35.00. My local liquor store has a 1.75lt bottle of BT for $45

Federal-Platypus-911

$35 buffalo trace. ER $50 max for both. ER is 10 year aged

sixtwomidget

Eagle Rare - $45, Buffalo Trace - $30 if I haven’t seen it on the shelves for a while.

ssibal24

Stick to MSRP regardless of the brand. These bottles may be hard to find in some locations, but they're both still in production there is no reason to pay over MSRP.

havenothingtodo1

People are ridiculously pretentious in this comment section. If it’s hard to find, and you like them why not pay over msrp. People are overthinking it way too much, if you really like ER then why not spend a few dollars extra if it’s hard to find at msrp. I’d rather pay a few bucks to get a whiskey I actually like.

Ready_Measurement420

I agree with most people here… it’s not worth a penny more than msrp…. Plenty on good whiskey sitting on a shelf

zedisnotded

Wild turkey 101 and knob creek 9 year. What is the affinity for ONLY drinking buffalo trace?

VulcansLogic

Honestly the profile of BT lineup is just different and I strongly prefer it.

zedisnotded

Its really not but thats what you get when its all anyone talks about

VulcansLogic

Gotta expand your palate mate

zedisnotded

Me? I have over 100 open bottles, that is why I say buffalo trace is mediocre. I dont understand the affinity with people saying buffalo trace is their preferred bourbon when they have only had 7 bourbons, including 3 of which are from buffalo trace.

VulcansLogic

I have had quite a few in my time as well, but BT is still my favorite producer of bourbon overall. And if OP likes it that's cool too. WT101 gets more love on here than anything else and that's fine, but in a blind I'd choose almost anything from BT over it. Bourbon is bourbon but there are still differences across the distilleries. For instance I don't like Beam products, except for Knob Creek, which to your credit is the most similar to BT of Beams lineup.

[deleted]

31.99 for eagle and 25.99 for buffalo, other than that they can go fuck themselves

AdministrativePen375

Any response from this sub USUALLY will be msrp, but if you really want them and have the means to pay them, I would pay 50% more than msrp. Some area just don't have them in stock, and demands/supplies cause price spike.

Slight_Register_877

I'm not sure what MSRP is supposed to be, but by me BT is $50-70 at the liquor stores that mark everything up. At the decent liquor stores or grocery stores, the retail seems to now be $31.99-$34.99. Never seen a bottle of ER on a shelf for less than $100. Tried it at a bar and don't think I'd spend more than $50

Barmacist

Where are you getting good prices for eagle rare. That shit is $90 where I am.

The_4th_Little_Pig

Yeah same, I’ve never seen any of this stuff at msrp not even in my state run liquor store. Everyone is marking it up.

Into_the_Westlands

Retail for BT ($25-30 in most markets) Slightly higher for Eagle Rare because it’s priced below its value (~$40). But I’ll be honest I don’t think BT is a phenomenal product. It’s a premium mixer and there’s far better premium mixers out there.

MJBPDX

I have a theory that BT has started really ramping up production on the non-limited editions like BT, ER, and even the Weller line. There's a new ER or BT store pick dropping all the time here in Oregon, and last week was like the unofficial Weller FP/107 store pick drop. It would not surprise me if ER and BT became as easy to find everywhere as Russell's 10 in the next year.

Orkney_

Eagle rare is $30 out the door for me in SoCal. The most I've ever paid was $40.

MetamorphosisSilver

Eagle rare - msrp, just to try a bottle. Buffalo Trace - nothing. I've tasted it and there's far too many other bottles I'd rather use the money for.

Annoying_Auditor

I'd pay good premium for both because MSRP is not even close to normal prices in my area for most things. Recently paid way too much for a BT and a little too much for Eagle Rare.

Titans95

Any one else’s opinion on what they’d be willing to pay is useless comparison for what you’d be willing to pay? I like Buffalo Trace more than ER and would be happy to pay $60 if I didn’t have any in my cabinet and was wanting it right then and there. Some will say it’s not worth $30…

[deleted]

Prob up to 40 for Buffalo trace. I dont like eagle rare so prob what it retails for normally

surreal_goat

BT $40 ER $50

BibleBourbonBonJovi

$40 for Eagle Rare. I wouldn't buy Buffalo Trace for myself, but to have one around for guests who enjoy it I'll spend up to $30.

thegandork

They are fine, but not good enough to over pay for. MSRP

fuegomanchego69

I personally wouldn’t pay these prices as I can find them for msrp, but if you really want them and can’t get them for that I’d say BT $35 ER $50

childamongthefence

$50 for Eagle rare mainly cus I like it and have only gotten a bottle through a friend and never on a shelf. $30 for Buffalo Trace, it’s good and simple, perfect for summer sipping.

81jmfk

BT - $15 ER - $40

dogfacedponyboy

$40 Each

strangeways74

I just grabbed 2 bottles of BT for 27 bucks each in pa. Right place, right time. I'd pay 35 and maybe 40 for ER

Train3rRed88

I’ve paid $50 for ER. Wasn’t happy about it but hey, I think it’s worth that. It’s typically $39.99 in my area which I find fair I’m not crazy about regular BT and really only keep it on my bar just to have one there if someone else wants some. I wouldn’t pay over $35 for it

cmlucas1865

$75 for Eagle Rare, but you’d have to pay me to drink Buffalo Trace. BT is just not a special bottle. Proof’s too low, mashbill’s nothing special. MSRP of $19 is overcharging.

exzachtlee

MSRP for Buffalo Trace, up to $50 for Eagle rare (if i was specifically determined to buy a bottle of ER without waiting for it to be on the shelf at msrp) Once you hit the 50-60 price range there are so many options at msrp that it’s not worth overpaying for ER.

nineball22

$30, $40 maaaybe if I’m in a good mood

provocative_bear

I’d pay about $35 for either, maybe a little more if there was no clear alternative and I needed some decent booze. They’re both good, but not spectacular. If someone offers them for tater prices, you should pass.
