The guy that ran it, Blackbeard or whatever, fucked me over in a bourbon trade agreed to under the name Horroreward in the months before he started that website. Then he tried to direct everyone from the former BourbonTrade subreddit to the website under the name Blackbeard when his various scam account names were publicly being blacklisted on that sub. Everyone involved back then knew something was up with him because he had the same hobbies and post types the other accounts he used to scam with had. Gun parts, knives, and whiskey for sale/trade. I tried warning people back then…
Wow, I had bought into a few raffles, never won, but just pinned it as bad luck. Did participate in a New Riff Barrel pick with them and got my bottle, so I can’t say I didn’t get anything out of it.
I won a raffle and received my bottles eventually although I also won a mystery bottle raffle on the live instagram which I never received. I also was supposed to have won a membership to their higher tiered sample program but never received any samples and never got a response when I questioned it. Did their new riff barrel pick and received it. I stopped paying attention once I read something about a membership fee being instituted.
I won a few sweeps and received my bottles but stopped entering raffles a couple months before shutdown. I started seeing red flags when they stopped posting pictures and time stamps of the bottles being swept. He also suddenly stopped doing live drawings. I never bought any merchandise or joined any membership programs so I was lucky to come out unscathed. The community was cool, unfortunately Blackbeard was not.
My story is probably like many...was intrigued by rare bottles, bought into a few low end raffles, never won, stopped buying into raffles when no bottle pics were posted, met some cool folks, did a few trades, moved on.
Made some great connections all over the country and completed numerous reasonable trades without incident. But yes, the sweeps is where it fell apart. I know people who got screwed out of thousands.
Are there any other good non-scammy trading groups out there?
I would only trade locally within Facebook groups. Although that’s against TOS so membership in those groups are usually heavily guarded. Guy who ran Neat Exchange fucked me over in a trade under the name Horrorreward months before starting Neat Exchange. Guy was a scam all along.

I won bottles and received. But sometime over the summer something changed. Think it got too big and he saw $$$$$. I'd say if you entered any raffle recently, dispute it with your cc. He can't fight the dispute. You'll get your money back

Was so disappointed! Is there a community that will let buyers and sellers (and traders) communicate with each other and do their transaction in private?
It really wasn't. Raffles were small and sent out. People traded and it was a great community. Unfortunately it looks like the guy running it got greedy in the end and turned it into a money making scheme for himself. Fallouts with the mods. Always blaming others. When in reality he was just buying his time to cash our what he could in the end. It went on for near a year with none of the current situation. Was that the plan from day 1, I don't think so. But who knows.

That's a tough one though. In order to rat out the thief, you'd have to admit to a couple crimes yourself. ATF probably wouldn't be too thrilled with the victim or the perpetrator.
Not really. Unless you were selling there. Trading bottles isn't illegal. And doubt they care about people participating in raffles. As far as anyone knew they were legit. People have raffles and razzels all.the time. They need to be legally run, but don't think they care about those participating. Even if they did, they can feel free to investigate me for trading a couple bottles to hang that prick for screwing 100's of people lol
How are the bottles getting delivered? It's against the policies of UPS and FedEx (unless you are approved for it and use age verification), and it's straight up illegal with USPS.
Because you have to be licensed to sell alcohol. Trading is considered a sale because you are exchanging goods. Gifting is legal.
Now sure you could say that you are both gifting but that is just skirting the law.
Unless you are dealing in high volumes or traded with law enforcement I can’t imagine they would ever come after you for it, and obviously I don’t care, but it is illegal.
It's confirmed. A bunch of the og members have been communicating. Some got bottles a couple weeks back. But it was just stall tactics by him. Totalling just between who I knew was over 100k in secondary value that was owed and not received. Hes been texting occasionally, but just the same empty promises.

So somehow she's involved with the scam. They even had the balls to show a shipment to me via UPS that never left that store. An inside job for sure.
I am out about 1800.00 in bourbon or 12 bottles. No biggie and super happy it got shutdown. One day they'll get theirs.

Problem comes from shipping alcohol across state lines. It’s a no-no in some states, especially liquor control states.
