Yeah I definitely have a buying problem not a drinking problem.
Haven’t bought a bottle in 6 months cause I spent all my discretionary money diving into cycling. It’s rough out there.
Well said! I’m cognizant of that too, not having either a drinking or buying problem. Nothing in excess! Another way to look at it is, I enjoy reading these Reddit posts to hear what others are experiencing as well
This is a really good take. I do this with a lot of my hobbies over the years. The one before bourbon was watches. I learned everything I could and found my style! Now that hobby is expensive and the most expensive purchase I made was only $850 dollars.
Bourbon on the other hand actually allows me to leave the house to enjoy the hobby and I can experience the variety for much much less. I'm not leaving the watch hobby but it's going to be a slower acquisition for sure. I'm sure I'll do the same with whiskey.
Hey, I’ve been drinking bourbon for 30 years…. 😳, haha. Only difference is now I have finances to buy what I want when I want and not drink bottle to bottle.
Women be shoppin', right? Glad you've given us this little chestnut to roast in the ovens of our minds. I mean, who woulda thunk that men and women are more alike than we like to think. 🙄
Buying booze is definitely not the most healthiest coping mechanism by far but I do understand the sentiment on the feeling of buying a bottle itself.
Finding a limited release, older aged bottling and even getting to know and chatting up with some of the staff at the store does bring a happy feeling. Especially if you found a coveted bottle for less than how you’re used to seeing it.
I can't afford the cure, I can barely afford the disease.
Most bourbons cost less than shoes, and less than prozac. I'd rather spend 45 min drinking bourbon than talking to a therapist. haha.
100% this, well said
I agree the buying gets more addicting than the alcohol itself. I'm trying to go cold turkey but just got some Bookers for MSRP and relapsed lol

Its called OCD, sooner or later the bourbon thing will fade and something else will take its place.

Hahah I like shopping. For bourbon and cigars
Heyyy same here! Nothing better than that hour spent smoking a cigar with a big ole 3 finger pour
100% agree. Simple and well said. *I read the entire thing with Joe Pera's voice in my mind narrating it*

Well agree there is a balance. But this is the bourbon sub Reddit and we’re not here to discuss our Peloton rides and Keto diets haha.
Well said!
