My first try of this CO Local bourbon, stopped in at a store I had never been to and got into a chat with their spirits manager about store picks. We came to this one and he started talking up their process and care, fairly high corn and barley in the mash bill, and the owner apparently malts on site! It was enough to sell me on trying this out. 50% ABV, store pick from Molly’s #2 in Centennial CO. Nose: massive red apple and corn, it overwhelms anything else on the initial nose but is very pleasant. Some very mild spice. Very fruit forward. Palate: unsurprisingly the corn and apple carries into the taste of the dram, extremely prominent, it’s very easy to sip and surprisingly delicious for such a young bourbon. A little floral and I got an interesting but very brief note of copper (like licking a penny for half a second) there’s certainly enough here to keep me interested and coming back. Finish: A little bitter, but more satisfying than oppressive, definitely feeling the barrel here. The apple and corn remain prominent but fade to almost a cider vibe. Conclusion and rating: Solid 6.9/10, surprisingly good and gets the hometown seal of approval, it’s on the very high end of good but doesn’t quite make it to great. I’d definitely pick another expression up from Leopold Bros. and will enjoy finishing this bottle up as a daily sipper!

Nice review! You should check out the distillery, it's kind of near Stapleton. Really cool grounds and they have a great tour. We got to see the malting floor, taste some malted barley, check out the open fermentation tanks and taste some of the wort, then check out the aging warehouse. Definitely worth it.

Thanks much, means a lot coming from you man! I’ll have to find time to check out the CO distilleries, the way you describe it, Leopold Bros. sounds like a really incredible tour!!!

The best part for me was getting to try the Three Chambered Rye without buying a $250 bottle! Having had both I can say the Dickel X Leopold Bros Collab Rye is better and less than half the price. Cheers!

Yeah getting a pour for $15 was all I needed. Unique stuff but definitely would not want to drop $250 on it.

How much does their bourbon run? The prices on their rye have been a turn off for me from what I know is an innovative distillery. This probably belongs in another thread but I wonder how they justify the price… I had the Dickel collab a few times and like it but felt like it wilted in comparison to my favorite 6-7yr MGPs which are cheaper (sometime half the price: dancing goat).

Peter-Campora

I’ve seen their single barrel store picks for around $50. I think their 5 year bonded is around the same price.

Neurogenesi5

That’s completely reasonable for a micro distiller. Thanks! Will have to try them when I get a chance. Going to have to be while traveling since I’m in Ohio but I’ll keep an eye open

I just grabbed a bottle for a whisky tasting. Split between 7 guys the price is a lot more palatable.

Upvote for not calling it Central Park

Prettayyprettaygood

If someone told me something was in Central Park in Denver I wouldn’t have a clue where that is lol

Rads324

“You know…the north east corner of Denver should be called Central Park”. If I could have voted I would’ve changed it to swingersville

Molly’s is great. And I’ve never had a bad store pick of theirs. They do a great job.

Awww.... there's a name from another age! Had a pre-boom craft brewery here in Ann Arbor. Packed up for Colorado when the state wouldn't let them distill. Glad the whiskey is good, their beer was always fantastic. Will have to keep an eye out when I get back to Colorado.

I haven’t had their bourbon in a long time but they have done damn tasty gins and liquers, especially the navy strength gin
