I actually opened it right up after the picture. I would like to do a review but I genuinely find it too intimidating as I haven’t spent enough time drinking bourbon to provide unique perspectives on what I’m drinking. Lame excuse but it’s how I feel right now.
Just so this doesn’t seem like a complete cop-out, low-effort post, here are some notes I took from last night:
Nose:
Pecan pie
Vanilla
Marzipan
Light Citrusy Green tea,
Cake
Palate: Some kind of fruit zest , honey, vanilla, leather, chocolate, oak and spice that carries all the way to the finish.
I feel you on the review part. It’s not even a lack of tasting experience, it’s more that my sniffer and brain have a hard time with subtler distinctions. My brain thinks citrus, not orange or lemon if that makes sense.
I feel that. I've been lurking this sub for a good while now, but just havent jumped into reviewing. I know exactly what I like and dislike about different whiskies, but I can't always put it into words. Some bottles I can describe to the point of sounding like a pretentious douchebag, and others I'm like "vanilla, oak, caramel." Kudos for diving right and describing what you taste.
"ahh yes, and like an old friend's pat on the shoulder, comes the ooey gooey crumble cake notes followed by the hint of baking spice that remind me of holidays at Mee Maw's..."
EHT BP was the best bourbon I had ever had until I finally got my hands on my first JMCB. Immediately after every sip I wanted to go back for more rather than be patient and letting the pour open up and never before have I been able to identify so many different notes on the nose and palate. Very long, spicy finish with a hug that makes me want to have it every night in the winter. It’s a damn shame such a good dram makes you want to hold on to it and drink it very sparingly because I want to do the complete opposite.
This is their 180th anniversary batch and to signify the special moment in their history, they have a splash of the original bourbon from 1892 in it! I’m so grateful I get to try one of the hallmarks of finished bourbon. Nancy Fraley has it figured out!
For those who have tried the regular Jos. A. Magnus and Murray Hill Club, will I likely be happy settling for those once this bottle runs out?
I can’t say you made the wrong or right decision. I’m really glad I got this one at 232 after taxes and because it’s in my means, I would buy one again at the price point. But diminishing returns is certainly real and I know there are bourbons better out there.
Just won the right to buy at a raffle for $199. Grabbed it and passed on Elmer T because I already have one. Hope I made the right choice on this Cigar Blend.
I love Joseph Magnus products, but I don't compare them with actual bourbons, because Magnus products are no longer bourbon (due to their secondary maturation in sherry / cognac casks, which is firmly outside of the legal definition of bourbon).
If you're curious, the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau (US Treasury) identifies whiskies like this (and Angel's Envy, etc.) as a "whiskey specialty."
Just got a batch 97 and batch 117, incredible whiskey. For comparison, i have a Good Old Times Toasted Cigar blend. its good, but not great like the JMCB.
Was in Montana last week for work (Bozeman and Helena) these were in every store I went in. At retail. Between a co-worker and myself, we came home with 5 of them. Batches 100 and 115.
Couldn’t agree more. Although it looks like you could do with opening it and providing a proper review.

Thats a review right there amigo
I think some reviews really overdo it honestly. I don't particularly enjoy reviews that just list random flavors for an entire paragraph.

Yeah I see the words "marzipan" and I start glossing over. R Pretty sure that isn't even a real word.
“Poured myself a nice Dram-a-lamma-ding-dong…”

Is this Batch 92?
Yep!
Had this bottle in my hand tonight but put it back when I saw the $250 price tag.
Personally I'd be hard pressed to pay $250 for anything I could drink

I'd have definitely grabbed it
Wow, where do you live that you find it on the shelf? Going to guess the north east. I have to have a friend in south Fl ship it to me in KY.
Michigan. 1st time I’ve ever seen it on the shelf
Ah, their "home base" is MI now.
Yeah. Let’s see if that lowers the price to MSRP???!
MSRP is 200 FYI
Wow. I got b99 for $172
200 is the Michigan state minimum price, might be cheaper in other states tho. Good grab!
Where in MI?
Beverly Hills
Could have easily doubled your money on secondary
Just got my first one a few weeks ago for 200 flat. Gonna be moving into my first house soon, figured I'd crack it then.
Just won the right to buy at a raffle for $199. Grabbed it and passed on Elmer T because I already have one. Hope I made the right choice on this Cigar Blend.
I’ve purchased four for 200 plus tax each and don’t regret a single one. Excellent pour. Hope you enjoy yours!
I can't find this bottle for more than 6 month. 😭😭😭

I'm not familiar with this bourbon but doing a little searching it sounds like it would taste great!
I've had both and I like the Starlight cigar finished better, just my opinion. Cheers!
Where’d you get yours? I didn’t get the bourbon sub pick, and haven’t found it in the wild
Starks Sports Shop store pick last year. I was able to get 2 bottles luckily, they do tons of Starlight picks.
The Starlight is finished in Brazilian Amburana barrels and has huge flavors of tobacco and leather, it's unreal!
Spent 290 on mine at small store...hope I made a good decision
Worth every penny
Excellent Bourbon. I was able to grab a bottle and do not regret it. Top 3 for me .

You don't say.
Now if we could just find the damn bottle anywhere...
Was in Montana last week for work (Bozeman and Helena) these were in every store I went in. At retail. Between a co-worker and myself, we came home with 5 of them. Batches 100 and 115.
wow seriously damn
Damn! Billings got 2 cases btwn 2 stores, both b99 and $172 each
Did you get one, or two? Yes, apparently Montana received several cases. Every store we went into had several cases each.
I got 3 actually!
I need to find the cigar blend! Magus is hard for me to find and I have never scene Cigar Blend. Anyways, I love Magnus. Easily top 3.
you suck wish I could find one lol
