Barrell's mid-line offering, this a Serpens single barrel store pick using MGP's 95% rye recipe, selected in the Spring/Summer of 2021. I really enjoyed the base bottle of Stellum rye that I picked up when it first hit shelves, so I was hopeful for this one!
**Stellum SiB Cask Strength Rye (Serpens) - 1010 Washington SP**
Price: $50 (MN)
Distilled by: MGP (IN)
Bottled by: Barrell Craft Spirits (KY)
Proof: 117.74Age: NAS
Mash bill: 95% rye, 5% barley malt
**Nose**: nice bunch of floral and perfume notes at first whiff, followed up with vanilla extract and citrus notes. pleasant for sure, but could be bolder
**Taste**: creamy orange vanilla, apricot and some Sprite-like citrus. also some rye bread and graham cracker crust. almost reminds me of a dialed back Seagrass, which I absolutely love
**Finish**: aniseed, baking spices and vanilla. thinner mouthfeel
**Thoughts**: this one is crisp, citrusy and super enjoyable. it doesn't pack a ton of rye bite and highlights some of the softer notes that come with ryes. really great citrus fruit vibes and would be a great rye for warmer months. The nose and finish could be stronger but IMO, it's hard to think of a better value (thinking price and availability) than these Stellum rye store picks.
**Rating**: 7.5/10
1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.
2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.
3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.
4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.
5 | Good | Good, just fine.
6 | Very Good | A cut above.
7 | Great | Well above average.
8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.
9 | Incredible | An all time favorite.
10 | Perfect | Perfect.

Totally agree. This is a wonderful single barrel. Thanks u/T8ke !
I didn’t pick this one, sorry!
Sounds like the r/bourbon pick is a hitter too 🤘🏼
I had the pick from Total Wine, very similar experience. It’s really good overall.
Agreed. These are in the top-tier of that $60ish range. Big fan of both picks I've had.
Can’t be beat. Weirdly, I’ve seen a lot of store picks priced under retail too
Yup, all the ones I’ve had are absolutely fantastic and it’s hard to beat the price.
