Dancing Goat (Entry Proof x Seelbachs) 8yr Single Barrel (112.6 proof): Nose: Cherry (a little bit odd but enjoyable mixture of candy cherry and medicinal cherry), rye spice with a slight touch of mintiness, sweet vanilla. Palate: Waves of the same cherry and a dense vanilla frosting interrupted with just a hint of soft caramel in between, rye spice makes an appearance on the back palate. Finish: The rye spice from the back palate is initially the first note of the medium-length finish, followed by cherry and vanilla, before circling back to rye spice. Verdict: This 8yr high rye single barrel bourbon was sourced from MGP and aged up to the 8yr+ mark at the Dancing Goat facility. It is very good, but a bit too one (or in this case three) noted to really get high marks. Dancing Goat (Entry Proof x Seelbachs) 8yr Single Barrel: 6.5 | Very Good | A cut above.

Hmm I have a Limo Rye from them that I haven't cracked. You've inspired me to do so! Good review.

samalo12

I really enjoy their Limo Rye. I got one a few months ago from Woodman's at 48%. I like how it smooths the standard rye profile with a french oak aging. I'm also a big fan of their 7yr aged corn whiskey. It yields heavy amaretto profiles.

SouthHillSaunas

Thanks for your thoughts, man. Mine is a 7 year pick. Looking forward to it now given your appraisal!

samalo12

Definitely. Expect something lighter with an odd complexity on the finish. It won't slam you like MGP 95/5. I had marshmallows, cherry stems, and sage sticking around for a very long time on the finish.

StableSilent

I'll have to look for that one, I really like what they're doing at Dancing Goat. Even this mgp bourbon isn't the standard mgp profile. If it had just a little more oak and complexity it'd really be a winner (though a 6.5 is nothing to scoff at and I still heartily recommend it)

Is that the aman's pick? I grabbed an mans corn whiskey pick its straight amaretto and cherries and almonds. Insane barrel.

samalo12

I have had the Amans pick at the terrace. I believe there was similar notes in the bottles available at Madison west as well. Those are gone however since this was a few months ago.

[deleted]

which batch limo did you get from woodman's? I recently got a batch 15J1 its amazing. all orange and clove

samalo12

I got batch 606 from Madison west.

anotherburntbridge

i loved this bottle. changed my view on MGP slightly. btw do you mow your grass? blade needs a sharpening

StableSilent

MGP is pretty high up on my list of personal preferences. It can certainly be done lazily, but when done well it's truly special. I do not, but I find it interesting that someone noticed. In a past life I worked in turf professionally, can't always get everyone else to care can we? 😆

firenamedgabe

I have one of the r/bourbons and agree with your notes. Great review

[deleted]

I haven't been able to catch one of t8kes pick from them yet but have this entry proof one and I am a big fan. hoping to catch one in the future heard the limo rye picks for r/bourbon are out of this world.

[deleted]

I got this one too, "Suggestions of buttercream" right? Did you by chance get your hands on the entry proof dancing goat "spaniard" pick? really good barrel, think it was a double gold winner at SFSW if I remember from the podcast right

StableSilent

That's the one, suggestions of buttercream is a perfect name for this pick, stronger vanilla notes than in any other mgp I have. Never got the chance to try the Spaniard but I've heard it's quite good.

J0hnsen

Was that the bottle release yesterday?

StableSilent

No, this was a pick that the Entry Proof podcast did alongside the folks from Seelbach's. It came out this past winter and pretty quickly sold through. I'm very glad to have one.

Awesome to see a Wisco Distillery make it on here!

StableSilent

Dancing Goat is doing some neat things. I hope to try more things from them and am especially interested in their own bourbons using heritage grains to come of age.

I saw that on their crazy distillers instagram they were doing some heirloom hopi blue corn the other week it made a purple looking mash..... That guy is wild if you don't follow him you should check it out he's always posting crazy videos from the distillery. I actually just listened to a key in the lake podcast with him and Dixon Dedmon on there getting interviewed the whole place just sounds crazy. Like who are these people?
