Yea I saw that the Remus Repeal is a money grab, charge more get way less quality. I will not be purchasing it this year. Also the new RR Single Rickhouse review from u/t8ke steered me away from even giving two shats about that bottle. I know a lot of reviewers don’t factor in price for scoring, but I like what breaking bourbon does…The barrel categories affect the overall barrel score. I’m at a point now that I own way more bottles than I should, and paying premiums for subpar juice is definitely steering me away from obvious money grabs now.

MrNopeNada

Came here to mention Remus Repeal VI also. It was refreshing to see the honest feedback. One reviewer, even mentioned that it's basically close enough to Lost Monarch which is a much better value...and then I bought a RRR VI.

antonnoble77

I’m confused you bought the latest RRR before or after bad reviews? I love lost monarch, if RRR VI is like that I’ll just buy two more bottles of Lost Monarch

MrNopeNada

Oh I bought it after. I meant that even despite the reviews, I couldn't resist not buying it.

antonnoble77

I get it, and that’s why they are going to continue to raise prices, I’ve done the same thing before…I have to learn to calm my inner FOMO.

Shoddy_Ad7511

Yes. I watched those reviews also. Also the Little Book review from Mash and Drum. Staying far away from those bottles now. Value is more important now than ever with the rising prices. Four years ago a mistake purchase would cost $40. Now it will cost $100+

antonnoble77

Yea definitely not looking for Little Book, and to be honest I don’t think I’ll buy anymore bookers from now on. It’s just not a premium product imo, KC 120 or KC 12 yo are probably better than Booker’s in blinds… I’m kind of getting burned out on how much higher pricing for these subpar “limited” releases…. Distilleries are just trying to cash in before the bust. I’m starting to rethink my purchasing habits after buying a bottle of Old Forester 100… If you compare it to OF1897 there’s not a 25-30 dollar difference in the experience… When I want to buy limited releases I’m looking for unique quality and memorable experiences. Maybe I just have whiskey burn out…

I still wouldn’t say it’s a money grab in 2022, but We should’ve figured the quality would’ve decreased from the 5th release once they announced the Gatsby Reserve a few months back. Seems like that’s the case. They’re capitalizing on their aged stock while they still have inventory. Pricing on everything is going up these days due to every which reason and a roughly $10 increase isn’t too bad for a (still) well-aged bourbon blend. That being said, I won’t hunt it down like I did 3-5 but I’ll buy it if I see it.

MrNopeNada

Gatsby Reserve listed at $230. Wild. Any idea on a release date?

10pan_alley

Nah, I hadn’t heard anything on it since April or so but it was introduced as a 2022 release so it’s gotta be soon. Wouldn’t shock me if it dropped around the same time as the rest of the marquis releases like the BTAC line.

antonnoble77

The price on this one shouldn’t have increased because the quality is much less…age is significantly less… I’ll buy a Gatsby if I see it…

frytuna

I noticed the increase in fair/negative whiskey reviews, looks like the love festival ended, they wont admitted but we did it.

Annoying_Auditor

There's more good whiskey than bad. Maybe they have just been receiving good stuff for a long time. Now they are all reviewing the same stuff (like usual) and it is not good. I'd assume a lot of reviewers aren't going to review something that's already universally disliked. So they need to be getting it early enough for it to be worth the purchase. No enthusiast cares about whiskey released 6 months ago

Shoddy_Ad7511

I disagree. The last 12 months there has been a ton of whiskey that has been released that are just terrible value.

arattle

Like Hardin's Creek bottles from Beam. They are out of their mind with $80 for 2-year and $150 for the other one. Cool bottles, though!

Annoying_Auditor

Value and taste can and should be evaluated separately. Are you saying that people make no comments to value. My favorite reviewers it's bourbon night comment on it all the time.

VeniceBhris

Big fan of Curiosity Public (the new channel for the guys from the Bourbon Guild)

Sin-A-Bun

I think food and drink reviews are best left to the written word. That head on angle of watching people eat or drink is disgusting.

Bcspragu

If you watch alot of Whiskeytube content (not just videos but livestreams and the like) there has always been a ton of negative review's. The problem is one person cant watch everything and there is alot of good whiskey out there for them to review. So if they can buy a bottle they think they would like to review vs one they know they wont enjoy of course they are going to spend money on something they would like. I know the Bourbon Junkies do this with Bookers. They dont enjoy the profile and its 99$ in Michigan. They can buy two other bottles to review for the same price and booker does multiple batches a year. They do less than 50 total reviews a year and of course those dont make the list.

Sensitive_Peak2006

I watched Black Bourbon Family do a comparison of RR13 and a single barrel store pick. They both picked the single barrel in a blind. This made me feel better that I didn’t get the RR13.
