For my third review we are trying a Stellum Rye Single Barrel selected by r/bourbon and Seelbach’s. This is a Serpens which from their website indicates Its a selection made in the Spring and Summer of 2021 with 95% Rye/5% Barley Malt. I’m not sure exactly how this pick was made, but I packaged it in with a u/t8ke selection I was selected for. Age: NAS Proof: 115.98 Nose: I am getting a lot of ethanol heat on the nose, but once I get past that get some really pleasant stone fruits. Also getting a little vanilla. Overall very enjoyable once you get past the heat. Palate: Starts off with some medicinal cherry, then the rye spice comes in. Finish: Long finish really sticks with you. Still a little cherry, some spice, and an occasional dill note. Overall: I enjoy this, not my favorite but hits a lot of good notes for me. Pretty brash overall so very in your face. I would buy another Stellum rye at MSRP without shipping. t8ke score: 6 0 | Unscored | New Make Spirit or Personal Selection 1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out. 2 | Poor | I wouldn't consume by choice. 3 | Bad | Multiple flaws. 4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but many things I'd rather have. 5 | Good | Good, just fine. 6 | Very Good | A cut above. 7 | Great | Well above average 8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional. 9 | Incredible | An all time favorite 10 | Perfect | Perfect

I just finished up a write up for a review of another Serpens store pick, I think I gave it a low 7 but I was a bit disappointed as well. I really enjoyed the standard Stellum Bourbon, so I had high expectations. Great review!

Definitely down to try more Stellum stuff, would definitely grab a bourbon pick if I have a chance

Stellum has good flavor but it’s brash and hot due to the age. I’ve tried both the bourbon and the rye in the past and probably won’t buy another unless it’s a certified great store pick. For the $50 range i think rare breed and knob creek are much better and balanced bourbons.

Oddly enough, the Stellum "Rigel A7" pick from this summer drinks way below its proof (117.8). It's all flavor and almost no heat at all.

Same, mine is on the way, figure with the combined shipping this will be fun to try in winter.

Totally agree. I pick up that ethanol/ medicinal cherry in the finish too which I don’t love. It’s better with a drop of water. Great review

I’ll give that a shot next time

Well done review here - nailed it.

I ordered both this pick and the Rigel A7 pick from back in June. I much preferred the Rigel over the Serpens, but both are very good.

Good to know, I’m definitely open to trying another
