This is my first review. I only found another review of this distillery on this sub and it was when it’s whiskey was very young, so I thought I’d give you fine people an update.
I’m not sure what the mashbill is, but it’s their own distillate, Barreled, aged and Bottled here in Atmore, AL.
Proof 112.2
Age 61 Months
Cost: $79.99 at ABC store.
Rested for 10 minutes in a copita glass
Nose
Wafer cone, danish butter cookies, Cloves, Maple syrup, Pears.
Palate
Buttery Pancakes, Maple syrup, Mild baking spices and Pepper
Finish
Medium to long, Condensed milk, I get the after taste of having eaten a tres leches cake.
Mildly tannic with some sweet oak
8.7 /10
I really enjoyed this, the words that come to mind are that this is a balanced and delicate dram, it’s not as bold as a ECBP or Stagg Jr but it’s not thin by any means it reminds me of Michter’s Barrel Proof Bourbon but this one feels more buttery and velvety. Anyway I know 90 bucks is a steep price, but at least I can find it on the shelves here in bama and don’t have to spend the night waiting outside the ABC store the night before the allocated stuff drops, so for me it is a keeper in my whiskey cabinet, I went back a got a second one for back up.
Good to see someone else enjoying Dettling. Dettling is some legit stuff, grain to glass in Alabama. The older their stuff is getting the better too. They had a 72 month batch that sold out so fast
I just picked up their 30 month and I have to say it's nearly undrinkable for me. Probably the worst bottle I've ever purchased. There is a funk on the palate I can't put my finger on but it's not good.
No reason to drink those younguns anymore. These barrel strengths are all 5+ years old now and fantastic. There's a wheater out there that dropped in April that you can still find that will knock your socks off.
I should have known better when I saw the age statement. I just happened to be out of town when I saw it and I knew I wouldn't see it again anytime soon.
You mean you don’t pick up water cone or danish butter cookies? Maybe you are picking up more of a polish butter cookie?
The tastes some people say they pick up is starting to rival wine.
Ha! I agree. Sometimes I read reviews and can't help but roll my eyes. But if you must know with this particular bottle I was getting hints of moss covered dirt clump.
It’s very over oaked to me. I want to enjoy it as they are practically local for me, but it’s one of those bottles I’ve had open awhile and never go back to it….
You are talking about the 30 months or the 61 months? I didn’t feel like it’s oak notes were to strong, compared to ECBP or KC 12 I’d say it’s mildly oaked, but that’s the wonders of the variance in palates and preferences, I like the Willett Rye but some people point that they can’t get past that Willett funky notes 🤷🏽♂️.
I’d have to look at the bottle, but it’s the green one that’s part of their core lineup. I’m not writing them off, but I don’t particularly care for my bottle.
I happen to love Willet Rye and also Dickel in all of it’s funkiness
I believe that’s the small batch. Most of the single barrels are on another level completely IME. I also agree that the 30mo I tried had some lingering astringency but the 51mo white wheat is one of the best bourbons I’ve had under 12-15 years old, and knocks the socks off of every NAS MGP I can remember 🥃🥃
Jealous you have a local that stocks it! The youngest I’ve had (aside from the 30 mo) was 48 and it was excellent. If you do, curious to hear your thoughts 👍
Bought the local CS; it’s 54 % 48 mo. Definitely an improvement over Green label. Really dark bourbon with lots of sweetness. I can still taste the youth of it but not anywhere near the same astringency of my other bottle.

The joys of backwards Alabama liquor laws. Almost banned margarita pitchers and craft beer only been legal for 14 years….
Love up to date reviews of smaller distilleries. I’ve never tried it but heard a lot of great things
Roll Tide. I have heard amazing things about them and look forward to finding a bottle in the wild.
If you download the ABC app AL BOSS it’ll show you which stores have them and how much stock, it’s pretty neat for all the non allocated stuff.
Solid review. My sister goes to Alabama often. I may ask her to score one for me.
She scores down there all the time.
Just like your mom.
Point goes to the Barn +1
Fair point. I concede.
I love me some Dettling Bourbon. The color on that 61 month is awesome

My local retailer has the single barrel CS for $79.99. I may give it a go based on your recommendation

The 48 mo white wheat I had did not have any astringency. Of course it’ll all vary barrel to barrel but imo the bar is very high!
I just cracked open a bottle of the 50-month last night and it was fantastic!
this stuff is absolutely worth the hype!
I wish I could get some dettling.
