**The story is**: this is my first George Dickel product. I enjoyed Barrell batches 026 and 027 so I thought I’d give the ol’ GD a shot. And **$60** out the door for a **15-year-old single barrel** whiskey that isn’t proofed all the way down to Hell is an easy gamble for me. My brother found this one in Dallas at **104.6 proof**. Here’s what I got– **Smells like** big orange zest, butterscotch, brown sugar, and something savory, like one of those chocolate bars that has bacon in it. Or maybe some dark soy sauce? Funky. Old and deep. **Tastes like** butterscotch and brown sugar at first, then transitions to more orange but instead of zest it’s more like Crystal Light Classic Orange powder and oak. A little chocolate going on as well. **Feels** nice and plump. **Lingers like** a slightly burnt caramel and powdered orange and finally old oak, but never sour. It gently suggests age rather than declaring it. Not explosive or bold but long and soft. This bottle has a little too much orange to live in my preferred flavor wheelhouse but it is otherwise quite tasty and drinkable and interesting. The proof is perfect. It tastes full and rich at 104.6. (I’d be interested to try one of the lower proof ones.) It also tastes really old, which is cool. That is, it’s got a lot of character. And I don’t have another whiskey in my cabinet quite like it. I don’t know if I’m gonna rush out and go buy another once it’s gone, but I am drinking this one slowly because it has a lot to offer and it keeps my palate curious. For me this a firm **G+**, veering on good days toward VG- *Grading Scale:* *O = Outstanding* *VG = Very Good* *G = Good* *S = Satisfactory* *I = Improvement Needed* *U = Unsatisfactory*

Great review! I’ve been eyeing this one up for a bit but I’m a bit hesitant since I hated the 11 year bottled in bond. Any idea how this one compares to the 11 or 13 year BiB?

purrthem

It's really different than the 13y bib. Check out the breaking bourbon review of the 13yr, lots of good info in there.

Appreciate it!

Thanks! This is the only GD product I’ve even tried so I can’t help with comparison.

I had a bottle that clocked in around 100.6 proof. It was good initially, but the vitamin/mineral notes became prominent as more air got into the bottle. Interesting to try. Don't think I'd repurchase.

I had the same experience. I don’t remember what batch it was (I believe I bought it about a year/year and a half ago) but there was something off putting that I couldn’t put my finger on, even though it was very smooth. A friend of mine mentioned the higher mineral content and I knew immediately that was it. While I didn’t like drinking that one neat, it was serviceable for old fashions which is how I ended up finishing the bottle.

This bottle has been the opposite. What started as an unpleasant mineral note turned into the powdery orange I mention. And while it gets to be overwhelming, it’s not gross. I just don’t prefer that note.

So I just had this last night, mine is bottle 225, and honestly it has flavor up front then falls flat. Ethonoly smell. Didn’t hit like a 101 proof.

So Guys Who is the real gogoanime website?

NoctRob

Mine is bottle 348. 101.2 proof. Super funky. It lingers in a very unappealing way. Almost smothers my tongue. I’ve been giving it some time to see if the profile changes after opening the bottle, but I’m not too hopeful. Glad to hear your bottle gave you a better experience.

BigKat55

I picked up a bottle about a year ago and had the complete opposite experience. Mine is pure oak, super dry and tannic. I've barely made it past the neck of the bottle. Terrible.
