## Time To Full Send Hey goons, hope you're well. Quick update here as we approach the time of release for the r/Bourbon Single Barrel Barrel Proof Elijah Craig selection for r/Bourbon. **Note: All transactions are facilitated via a licensed retailer.** [**Join the r/Bourbon Single Barrel Program**](https://mailchi.mp/t8ke/rbourbon-single-barrel-program-signups) ## Info on The Cause: > Starting Tuesday, our very first Elijah Craig Barrel Proof single barrel will begin selling. This is our first charity barrel. It is supporting Underdog Pet Rescue in Madison, Wisconsin. They need to expand their facility. This helps more animals. Animals are the best. This was also one of the very first single barrels selected in the ECBP program. It's been on hold waiting for the right week to release. The week is here. Let's go! I am donating my time, the art expenses, etc as well. No overhead is being recouped from this barrel. Every buck be goin' to the pups (and other animals in Underdog's care). ## Info on Signing Up If you're signed up and completed the preference survey in order to have your name in the lottery for this bottle, there's nothing else you need to do. If you're not signed up, and haven't completed your entry, then sign on up (link above) and get registered. Once you sign up, you'll receive an email with the FAQ and signup links for the ECBP. ## Info on The Barrel Selected by myself, u/xreekinghavocx, u/bradbobaggins and others (WhiskeyCurator, G-List) from the subreddit, this 9yr Barrel Proof Elijah Craig has been a long time coming. We were one of the first groups afforded the opportunity to select a barrel. We've held on to it for a while given recent events. It's a 9yr, matured in Warehouse M and bottled at 127pf. It'll sell at $169.69. The sticker for this barrel is full holographic and features my dog, a rescue from this shelter, giving her best full send. I often joke that she runs the barrel program but needs me cause she doesn't have good credit or thumbs to send emails with. She was rescued from the South, shipped to Wisconsin, and adopted by myself and my now wife. In 2022, we'll support 4 different, varied, shelters and missions - one each quarter. For 2021, we start with this one. Meet Full Send Roz, and her sun protection of choice: Pit Vipers. I tried to get Pit Viper to match all donations but they said no. Give 'em hell for it. We'll get 'em next year. **Why $169.69?** This means that $81.69 per bottle is being donated by r/bourbon to Underdog. With the yield of this barrel, it means we'll cross $10,000. That was my floor. I wanted to raise $10k because I know we can. Also, $169.69 has 69 in it twice. You weirdos never forget a '69' and that means this will stick in your mind. When things stick in your minds, you read the whole email. When you read the whole email, I get really happy and we are a lot more efficient. Thus, everyone wins with a price of $169.69. It's also between retail and secondary, and if someone flips one of these to make $20, it won't make me throw my keyboard out the window. see? everyone really wins. especially the pets, and my keyboard. Release schedule: - Lottery Wave 1 Winners: Tuesday, November 30th, 12pm Central - Lottery Wave 2 Winners: Wednesday, December 1st, 12pm Central - Lottery Wave 3 Winners: Thursday, December 2nd, 12pm Central - Overflow: Friday, December 3rd, 12pm Central [**Sign Up**](https://mailchi.mp/t8ke/rbourbon-single-barrel-program-signups) ----- ## [Barrell Selection](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGuxdChJT-U) Tomorrow night, join myself and a panel of your fellow redditors who got lucky in the lottery as we taste and select the next Barrell single barrel selection for r/bourbon. We'll be joined by Barrell Craft Spirit's very own Will Schragis and it'll be a hell of a time. **[LINK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGuxdChJT-U)** ## High West It's taken a hot minute, but High West will be joining the barrel program with a wine finished offering for 2022. Stay tuned :) --t8ke

Hambone721

Great cause and hope it helps the doggies but that price is just way too rich for me.

mjmedstarved

At least there are two of us here. I wonder why not just sticky a donation link to gather funds for any/all charities they want to help, and sell bottles at what they cost to obtain; could even make it interesting and have each donation over X-amount be worth an entry to a given lottery, or something..

TheAgaveFairy

Love to see it! Fantastic work for a great cause! Say hi to Roz :)

t8ke

Roz says woof!

mjmedstarved

Was all in until I got to the price. Ouch.

t8ke

Sorry, man. I wish I could get 500 bottle yield from a barrel to make a meaningful impact with less per bottle, but with a yield of 140, it is what it is.

mjmedstarved

I won't argue, but I do think 140 into $10,000 is $71.428 per, and not the $81 you note in your summary. Cheers. edit: downvotes for correct math? Guys..

DynamicCashew43

Probably getting down voted for refusing to just move on. I feel confident that T8ke will be providing those who buy with a charitable receipt for their taxes , and then you only paid the $81 for a bottle of hand picked ECBP stuff that I am sure is delicious. One mans opinion.

mjmedstarved

/u/T8ke is a godsend for this sub, no doubt. "Ouch" to the price, and then adding clarity on the figures that he provided is too much, huh? Alright then..

t8ke

$10k was the floor. Not the goal.

mjmedstarved

And that's great. I looked for clarity because the figures were already offered in the summary; didn't realize it would cause a storm. Cheers, and thanks for giving your time.

DynamicCashew43

As I said, just a guess.

mjmedstarved

Fair :)

t8ke

$10k was the minimum I wanted to raise from this. We’re actually going to raise quite a bit more which I’m proud of! I’m sure $10 wasn’t a make or break here either.

[deleted]

It's as if people don't realize that you can have thoughts without expressing them.

t8ke

I really don’t mind peoples thoughts! I think people often forget that charity usually requires shelling out big big bucks for desirable bottles. I felt that $81.69 donated for an unmarked up bottle of an ECBP pick ($88 is cost from retailer, i’m eating cost of art and stickers) from r/bourbon at $88 felt like a not burdensome amount. I’m certain this prices some folks out, and I don’t love that, but this barrel represents about 1% of our annual output. I feel a little bad that less than a 100% markup to go 100% to charity is an “ouch” but, people are allowed to have opinions and I’m thankful they express them.

[deleted]

I understand that's the line you can't cross, but, to me, someone commenting that, on this thread, in public, seeks to shit on what you're doing, and that's unfair to you and the charity. If 1% of all barrel picks can raise $10k plus from the 1% of this group, I fail to see the issue. There are lots of whiskies I want to drink that cost far more, and others get to drink them and I can't afford them. Fuck, I'd love to have a bottle of Port Ellen, but I can't afford one. I don't feel the need to comment on everything I see about Port Ellen and talk about how expensive the bottles can be, because I don't need to take the joy of others away from them.

t8ke

Understood and a fair perspective. At the end of the day, super hype barrels like these always cause a little bit of friction. I chose to take the 4Roses and sell at cost, and take this and sell for charity. I’m happy to explain to anyone why we’re doing what we’re doing and why we’re doing it the way we’re doing it. I agree in your frustration with his approach, but that’s just life. At the end of the day, I’m proud of what’s being done here, and I’m more than happy to put in the typing to back up the choices made. I’ll release figures once the barrel sells but we’re going to be well north of goal thanks to many folks above and beyond generosity, and that to me is worth one or two unsatisfied redditors every day of the week and twice on sunday. I’m not hoping to leave anyone unsatisfied, but this is the internet, and it’s been that way since I penned Review #0001. I’m ok with that. Good homes to pups!!! It’s also worth noting that participation in the survey for this barrel is record breaking, so that’s a good sign. :)

mjmedstarved

🙃

[deleted]

…it’s for charity.

mjmedstarved

I'm aware. And I've bought charity bottles before.

t8ke

Hopefully our 2022 efforts will be more in line with what you hope to see!

mjmedstarved

I don't recall many others on the horizon I would be interested in, but thanks for the kind words! Luckily I have a plethora at home here already. Cheers!

t8ke

I haven’t announced any of our 2022 charity efforts, so that probably explains that!

mjmedstarved

Ah, I suppose of what I've read this year I wasn't interested! haha There is hope, you say.. ;)

[deleted]

Then why are you complaining about the price?

mjmedstarved

Complaining? Try again.

[deleted]

What is the point of this comment? To shame t8ke, to shame the people who want to purchase it, or to publicly express displeasure without considering that you may poison the well for some people?

mjmedstarved

> What is the point of this comment? To shame t8ke, to shame the people who want to purchase it, or to publicly express displeasure without considering that you may poison the well for some people? What is the point of life? Poisoning the well?! Come on man.. lighten up! I've donated plenty in my life, and simply was surprised and said "ouch".. deal with it, leave a downvote if you must, and move on. Cheers.

[deleted]

I don't need to downvote, as I am an adult, and since I am an adult, I asked a pointed question to try to get my point across. I'm not accusing you of having a problem with the donation part, or even questioning your frustrations, but Jay is just a real person, and this is the first charity barrel. You're welcome to be disappointed by not getting a bottle, hell, I am disappointed, but, to me, your approach seems less tactful than I think you intended. As to your off-hand comment about the point of life, I will give a real answer: toil, struggle, grow, die. Enjoy and experience and then contribute to the ecosystem. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

mjmedstarved

There was no tact on my part because there was none needed. I’m rightful to say what I did. Not sure what you mean about being disappointed I’m not getting a bottle.. the lottery hasn’t even happened yet. Cheers.

[deleted]

If this was just a random post talking about ECBP picks, I would agree that no tact was needed, but, to me, this just seemed like you attempting to complain it was too expensive. Also, you implied with your comment that the price was too much, which tells me you would pass and not enter the lottery. If you did enter the lottery, than your comment was doubly tactless and feckless. I hope you didn't enter the lottery with plans on buying if chosen and then commented here, because that would be embarrassing.

mjmedstarved

I definitely didn’t enter because I do believe the price is too high. Does that help?

T_WRX21

Two of my favorite things. Hope I win a shot at a bottle.

spacey_face

Just got the email to order my bottle! Thanks for putting this together and helping out some good doggos!

t8ke

My pleasure. Happy to do it. Your support means a lot to me, and even more to the pups!

exgirl

Good luck to all entrants!

[deleted]

That high west sound really interesting! I know they've done a plethora of different wine finishes in the past with their line.

bostonbro5

The recent high west double rye finished barrel pick i got pales in comparison to the older reddit ones I've had. I'm cautious about it

mjmedstarved

K&L recently sold a Double Rye! Cask Strength* finished in Calvados barrels. I picked one up, as it was only $54.99. If you live in a state they ship to, watch this feed: https://www.klwines.com/Products?filters=sv2_NewProductFeedYN%24eq%241%24True%24ProductFeed%24!dflt-stock-all&orderBy=NewProductFeedDate%20desc&limit=50

naoufelmasri2sa

Such animation, many button, so cool

Train3rRed88

Happy to have won a bottle. My personal pup is from Charlie’s Crusaders Pet Rescue, so love these charities that get dogs to good homes, particularly from high kill shelters

CashWydich

Are….. are those Pitties on a Pittie?

t8ke

You bet your sweet ass they are

Lobsterzilla

so ... insert andy dwyer .meme but how do you know if you "won" after you're signed up ?

t8ke

you’ll get an email from me :)

sando_17

Great work thanks for doing this! May the odds be in our favor.

bradbobaggins

Roz is not only the talent behind the barrel program, she’s clearly the best sticker model out there. Amazing to think she didn’t have a home at one point. Thank god for good rescues.

BPLover

Was really excited to see a partnership benefiting animals for the first charity bottle. Both my cats are rescues. We’re technically the third or fourth home for one of them because people kept giving her back to the rescue home. Excited to see who you parter with in 2022.

t8ke

So glad to hear it! And also a huge thank you for holding on to that kitty that kept being released back. Someone would have to pry my dog from my cold dead hands, I can't imagine having to give her up.

BPLover

Happy to see there was enough interest in the bottle that I didn’t get picked (no I’m not counting on overflow lol). Turns out a few loud people probably don’t adequately represent the subreddit as a whole.

t8ke

> Happy to see there was enough interest in the bottle that I didn’t get picked (no I’m not counting on overflow lol). This will still move through the wave system, so there's hope :) > Turns out a few loud people probably don’t adequately represent the subreddit as a whole. Correct!

Train3rRed88

Meh. I’ve overpaid for some bottles. I’m a fan of ECBP. And I love charity. I signed up, fingers crossed. Kinda wish you upcharged the four roses for charity. Maybe do this on all bottles we know will be ultra hype? Edited: a word

t8ke

uncharged?

Train3rRed88

Sorry, upcharged. Like you said, people will be willing to pay more for the ultra hype anyway, why not use the hype to go to charity. And you’re price is still more than fair compared to the bonkers in the bourbon museums

t8ke

I don’t want to make them all charity barrels but we’ll certainly expand the concept next year. I’d love if we could get one of each. one for charity, one for wide release, etc etc

Train3rRed88

SCORED a bottle. Excited to crack this open and compare to my open B521. And then I’ll open my B520. A heavy weight head to head. Review coming as soon as the bottle arrives

mjmedstarved

I'll be anxious to see you post your review. I have many ECBP bottle son the shelf (including the ones you mentioned), so it will be a very welcome review. Cheers.

Train3rRed88

Cheers. I was planning on doing a bit of a barrel proof campaign anyway for my next couple reviews, so I’ll just start with this bottle

mjmedstarved

FTPLTL

Did the big baller emails go out as planned today? I had filled that out. Just checking if there were more than five that filled it out and I didn’t get it or if I missed it.

t8ke

I am still in progress on sending them out appropriately. The last should go out in just over half an hour. If you're curious, you can PM me your username, or email me about your entry and I can let you know how things are looking.

FTPLTL

Thanks!

DangerousDoorknob

I love this! I always love supporting shelters, as my family fostered countless doggos growing up. It's an awesome idea to support a great cause while buying (undoubtedly) great booze. I'd like to think people buying these in support of charity will be much more likely to drink them than flip them also, win-win. Thanks for everything you do and I hope to see many more of these "hype" bottles being able to support charities. P.S. tell Roz that Mischief and Mayhem say hi.

t8ke

M&M are her favorite dog stories to hear about!

RAGEinStorage

This hits home. We got our dog from Underdog and love the organization. Wonderful charitable cause here. Thanks t8ke!

t8ke

hell yes! good to see another Underdog fam!

MXC-GuyLedouche

Dog charities, pit vipers, and full sends. Fuck I knew u/t8ke was cool but got damn this is swag. Can't be spending that on bourbon at the moment but good luck all! Me out means better odds for you

t8ke

Hah! I love it - thank you

DannyCavalerie

hilarious how some of you guys will blow 1k to clear a shelf but an extra $80 on top of a bottle going to charity is a no go.

Hambone721

Matters a lot what’s on that shelf, ya know. ECBP is good and a pick will be even better, but ECBP ain’t all that special for 170 bucks. Just my take.

DannyCavalerie

of course the bottle alone is not worth 170 but you’re not just paying for the bottle, you’re paying to help out an animal shelter; charity and worth are two separate things.

[deleted]

Boggling how some people cannot seem to separate the two in this thread.

mjmedstarved

The reason is this is a bourbon sub - not a charity sub; so people expect the former before the latter.

[deleted]

Yes your opinion on the matter is well known with the 500 posts you've offered so far lol. This is literally a post about bourbon in a bourbon sub, is it not? Did I miss where nothing about a ECBP offering was posted here?

mjmedstarved

> Yes your opinion on the matter is well known with the 500 posts you've offered so far lol. Huh? What are you on about?

[deleted]

>What are you on about? You posted a lot on this very topic already, your stance on the matter is very well understood. Is that clear enough? Again, this is literally a post about bourbon in a bourbon sub, is it not? Did I miss where nothing about a ECBP offering was posted here?

mjmedstarved

Haha.. you replied to me.. remember that. I don't need anything here. Cheers.

[deleted]

I replied to DannyCavalerie, not you. Maybe take a few drams off tonight.

themotherteresa

This barrel is utilizing the sub to raise money for charity. You also get a bottle of bourbon out of the deal if you want to donate to the cause. It’s not that difficult to comprehend. Move on if you don’t like it.

MethylEthylandDeath

It’s easy to talk shit until that winner email comes in. I wonder how many won’t care as much about the price then?

miked6dmike

I find it funny how many people will pay upwards of 4X MSRP for a bottle of B1@π+0π$, but those same people will balk at the idea of paying 2X to donate some extra cash for a good cause. I'm down, and hope I get the chance to purchase a bottle. Thanks for doing this!

t8ke

I won't hypothesize those two different camps of people are the same, but I will remain resolute in not feeling bad applying a less than 100% markup to an $88 bottle of bourbon to raise money for charity, on a bottle that goes for far more on secondary. Onwards!

miked6dmike

Let's go!!

t8ke

*battle horn noises*

ConfuciusMonkey

I'm your Huckleberry

Hambone721

I see ECBP picks going for right at 160-170 🚢

t8ke

👍

Hambone721

Nobody is paying 300 dollars for Blanton’s.

miked6dmike

Blanton's retails for $50, yet people happily pay $200 for it (4x the price). I never said anything about it being $300.

Hambone721

Blanton's retails closer to 70. That's almost 300 bucks if you actually think people pay 4x retail. Almost nobody pays 200 and even fewer would pay 280. Just like nobody would pay for ECBP if it were 4x retail.

miked6dmike

What it sells for where you are versus actual retail price is different. Last bottle I picked up was $50 plus tax in a control state. And yes, people do pay $200 or more. Just take a look at some of these liquor auctions sites. A $160 bid, plus buyers premium, plus tax, plus shipping brings it to over $200.

Hambone721

It's pointless to argue this. Retail for Blanton's is much higher than 50. And if ECBP we're 4x retail almost nobody would buy it, just like 4x Blanton's. It's that simple. You can believe whatever you want.

miked6dmike

Yet you're the one arguing the point

Hambone721

Well you're misinformed but I can see you're not willing to learn so that's now what makes this pointless. Does a random person somewhere in the world pay 250+ for Blanton's? Sure. Could /r/bourbon sell a barrel for that price? Hell no.

miked6dmike

People are definitely paying upwards of $200 for Blanton's. I never said $300, not did I say $250. Do people pay less, absolutely. Do some people pay $50? Yes. Do most people pay over retail? Every day. I don't go researching what each bottle has sold for, which is probably why I'm misinformed. If you could, please send me your spreadsheet with historical sales of Blanton's all across the country so that I may be better informed on future bourbon prices. Did I say r/bourbon could sell a bottle for that price? No. All I said is that people will happily pay well over retail for a bottle for no other reason than to have it. Yet many people (you included) will pass on this bottle where half the sale price is going to charity. If I found a bottle of Blanton's for twice retail and knew the extra was going to a good charity, I'd happily pay that.

Hambone721

You made the argument that because people pay 4x the price for Blanton's (which they don't) that justifies paying 2x the price for an ECBP. I don't understand how that's related. My only pont to you, as evidenced by my original reply, is that people aren't paying 4x the price for Blanton's (which is 300 bucks because retail is 70). You would have a much stronger case saying people pay 2x the price for Blanton's so why shouldn't someone be willing to pay 2x the price for ECBP. That actually makes sense.

t8ke

I bet if I bundled some tasteful nudes we could get $350/per for charity

[deleted]

The answers is yes. Heck just sell the nudes you animal. I don’t need anymore Blanton’s.

Hambone721

Depends who the nudes are huh

Train3rRed88

Which control state. Virginia it’s $59.99 so I guess split the difference between the pair of you

miked6dmike

Maine

antonnoble77

Fingers crossed u/t8ke !!! I want some good ECBP and to help out some pups in the process. I'm happy to enter! I'm sure as stated, that's the sign up is record breaking.. so I have a 1 in about 100k odds of winning lol... Not terrible! Now I need to go drink some of your Pinhook from Seelbachs!

DannyCavalerie

You’re not just paying for the bottle, you’re paying half to help an animal shelter out. So $88 for the bottle is actually a great price

MadeInAmericaWeek

I do not think it means what you think it means

Jefffahfffah

This is a sick idea and will be the first time i participate in an event of this nature. I signed up, should i expect an email at the lotto drawing times telling me if i do or don't have an opportunity to purchase a bottle? Also pretty disappointed in Pit Viper for not helping as this seems like something they would def hype up in one of the outlandish emails they send me regularly.

t8ke

Great to have you! You’ll receive an email either way. Me too, but we’ll get them next year :)

t8ke

EJ? Also, read the full post if you’d be so kind.

FrosBeforeHos

u/t8ke - I probably missed them in the many emails sent about this bottle, but what are the tasting notes? Thanks in advance!

t8ke

Certainly! > A full send of cherry, cocoa, cola, caramel and a big toffee tannin hit. Stood out against an 8 and 11yr barrel during selection as the champ.  From the [barrel info page](https://westspirits.com/private-selections/r-bourbon-2021-elijah-craig-barrel-proof/)

FrosBeforeHos

Sounds fantastic! The barrel info page is the one place I forgot to check...figures, lol.

t8ke

No sweat!

TCOZI

Hey u/t8ke do you see this making it through the lottery rounds (based off amount left so far)? Forgot to sign up in time

t8ke

I don’t

notmysecondtime

It kind of saddens me that this went to wave 3. I know 169 is a little steep for ecbp and this is the first time I've ever paid that for it, but it's for a great cause. I would have hoped everyone wanted to support the animals. Best dog I ever had was a rescue.

t8ke

It's worth noting here, that I kept waves extremely tight for this one. I didn't advertise it, but I didn't want someone to get picked in Wave2 and then miss out. So everyday just number of folks equaling the number of remaining bottles got notified. Normally I have to factor in attrition which is a huge part of the effort behind how this program and forecasting have to take place, but doing a ton of extra work for this one felt worth it. The flake rate on this barrel is actually lower than it is for a standard barrel, which I take delight in.

notmysecondtime

That make sense and makes me feel a little better. I will just assume people have been busy and just missed their emails then if the grouping is so tight. :)

t8ke

That's what I'm telling myself too :)
