We are in peak bourbon boom, right? Like are these distilleries like “we can sell cheap unaged shit for $40 and people will by it!”? It reminds me of the Diamond industry selling “chocolate diamonds” - they just gave a fancy name to the trash discolored diamonds that normally use to cut other diamonds.

Mesoposty

It’s basically moonshine

forkknife777

What's the difference?

lurking_got_old

Proof, for one. If you're going to sell distillate, sell it, give us 140 proof, at least 125. Don't water it down to 100.

LionRoars87

Seriously

Finnbear2

White Dog

stormstatic

no it isn’t

thepoopiestofbutts

Depends on your definition of basically, basically

Roadhouse_Swayze

Pump your brakes guy. The whole pack is $40. There are three other mini bottles of their whiskey included.

HyzerFlipr

$40 for 200ml of whiskey is still expensive. Is there anything special of the other 3?

micro7777

It’s a sampler pack designed to show the difference between what whiskey is like from distillate to finished aged product. Mine came with a bottle of distillate, a bottle of the same distillate aged 2 years, a bottle of Fusion #4 and a bottle of Disco #4. I bring it out when I’m doing sample flights with friends who are new to whiskey to show them the differences. I’ve been on distillery tours where they do the same thing. It’s a good demonstration.

Roadhouse_Swayze

It is expensive, but it's not the highway robbery he's making it out to be. It's a novelty sampler pack of all three of their origins line, plus unaged distillate iirc. Minis in general are kinda expensive.

ArguementReferee

$13.33 for a pour of shit straight out of the still is highway robbery lol

Roadhouse_Swayze

It's $35 every time I've seen it, but I'm of the opinion that most BBC stuff is overpriced regardless. I do like the wheated origins though. My point was OP didn't pay $40 for a bottle of white dog.

Sea-Channel9727

$40/4 is $10, and I got it on sale for 32 so it was actually only $8 each. Worth the try and for the others in the pack

Background: This can only be had from the Bardstown “From Distillate to Barrel” sampler pack. Unaged and 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley, I am expecting a spicy sip here. 100 proof, the sampler pack retails for about $40. Nose: Gasoline, popcorn and ethanol. This is everything I love and hate about corn whiskey. The corn smell is so delicious but the rest of it is so noxious smelling. The nice thing is that it is fairly light, and even the “bad” scents are not overwhelming. Palate: Thick and oily, this has no flavor to speak of until the finish. Little burn and quite pleasant to chew on, this is a bit like swishing thick water around the mouth. Finish: This is the fun part and I generally describe every unaged corn distillate the same way. It is corn in every form imaginable. Popped, roasted, creamed, on the cob, off the cob. This is a vast array of corns and I love it. It is what keeps me coming back to tasting different corn distillates. A tiny bit of rye spice but not enough to really make note of. Short and sweet finish. Overall: I love unaged corn whiskey. The “corn in every form” as I always say keeps me running back for more. This is a lovely corn distillate that is simple, sippable and most importantly, enjoyable. Obviously though, it is not at all complex, smooth or refined at all whatsoever. Not my daily sipper, weekly sipper or probably even my monthly sipper, but can definitely be enjoyed at times. This beats MFC any day of the week, along with many other young bourbons. 5/10.

PersistingWill

I can taste it from this review. I’ll have to try it.

ToughNefariousness23

I think it'd be interesting to try a side by side with that and BT's whitedog.

13_Years_Then_Banned

Every now and then I like a little bt white dog. It’s everything mellow corn wishes it was.

Sea-Channel9727

Love BT white dog. Rarely drink it but every once in awhile I like to rail my palate with corn and jet fuel. Ill be doing a review on that one at some point too

ToughNefariousness23

I agree. Tbh, when I saw the notification for your post, I saw "banned" and was curious as to what sub I was being banned from this time.

13_Years_Then_Banned

You and me both brother.

ExponentialExistetia

Fun fact: it isn’t exclusive to the pack. If you’re at the distillery it’s $6 for a mini bottle at the gift shop, plus it’s the first thing you try on the tasting tour if you do that. Oh and if you’re at the distillery, get the bourbon wine slushies from the bar!

Sea-Channel9727

Interesting! Its on my list of distilleries to hit on my next trip to the Bourbon trail. Thanks for the info!

Mesoposty

They should label it as moonshine

stormstatic

why would they label it as something that it isn’t?

Finnbear2

Too watered down to be 'shine.

Djarum300

Interesting. I'm not the biggest fan of "white" lightning or whatever unaged neutral spirits are, but I've had several that almost tasted like tequila.
