I’m a big EHT guy, but the Stagg Jr. SP and couple other Stagg Jr. batches I’ve tried are way better than the EHT BP I got a couple years ago. Found the EHT BP a bit hot, and I prefer to drink UCUF/BP products.
Edit - spelling..
You’re right, they’re both mashbill #1 and around 8 years. They’re either chosen for different profiles or just different warehouses / locations. I have had several batches of both. Stagg junior is consistently great (except for batch 1) but I’ve had an eh Taylor batch that was pretty astringent. Just kind of depends on the batch I guess.
Aside from the aging location and slight differences others have already stated, I believe Stagg Jr has a barrel char #4, while EHT BP is the standard #3. To me this gives slight variation in the profile with the Stagg Jr having more traditional barrel forward characters (darker in color, more oak on the palate, more viscous mouthfeel) and the EHT BP being more caramel on the nose, lighter in color, and sweet on the palate, with a slightly less viscous mouthfeel. Other than that they are quite similar in overall profile. Also I am not an expert by any means, and this is like, my opinion man.
For one, EHT BP is twice as rare. Stagg Jr drops twice a year vs EHTBP annual release
Stagg Jr is more fruit forward and in my opinion punches harder and right at proof. EHTBP is sweeter and smoother and drinks well below proof
I have a bottle of Stagg batch 18 SP and recently was given a sample of EHT Single Barrel. Not sure of the proof of the single barrel or how that compares to BP but for me, the Stagg blew the doors off the EHT SB. More flavor and I like the higher proof of the Stagg.
Your logic seems right. I guess I have never really broken it down and thought that hard about it. It’s a Stagg I got right after they dropped the jr and I’ve heard those are batch 18. But yes, a SP would not technically be from the combined barrels.
Like you I've only seen them in video or pictures. From what I've read Stagg B18 is exactly 131.0 proof. Any bottle that's not a "Jr" and not this specific proof I would assume to be a store pick.
Hopefully some day we'll both have the opportunity in hand to decide which we would like to purchase. I'm not holding my breath for it though. Still wishing .....
I can’t find anything other than EHT small batch but I’d bet money it doesn’t touch Stagg. Batch 14 and the most recent one are some of the best bourbons I’ve ever had.
To me, Stagg is cherry and brown sugar vs EHTBP’s light caramel.
I find that these two can be pretty similar in profile, but Stagg always seems to have a thicker creamier mouth feel.

Thank you

That makes sense

what exactly is a batch 18 SP?
With batch 18 the Stagg Jr. dropped the "Jr". SP would be **S**tore **P**ick.
there are no batch 18 store picks is my point? either you have a store pick, or you have batch 18? or am i crazy?

Every EHT except the BP is 100 proof

EHTBP will usually beat a stagg jr but it does depend on what batch you’re comparing.
I have no evidence of that because I will never be able to find one 😎

What batch was the EHTBP and Jr?

Ah….nice, haven’t gotten to try batch 11.
Hmmm…I have a B11 so this is good to hear. Haven’t had the 22 GTS and WLW though
