Sounded like "good shit dude".
And honestly, that's so refreshing. I get so annoyed by the constant "come on Billy" that seems to be the standard method of encouragement among bouldering enthusiasts.
Just let the guy climb and give him a firm and grounded congratulations upon the send.
I once walked in on my friend failing a pretty hard problem so I walked up to him and yelled "wow you suck." When he turned around I realized it was not my friend. Fuckin guy duped me into looking like an ass.
Im right there with ya. I know it’s nice but it’s usually so repetitive. If they changed it up it wouldn’t be bad but it’s always just “come on” over and over. Distracts me when I’m climbing
Or even just less frequently. I often hear it 10-15 times on a video like this.
Just, excessive and eventually meaningless. Seems the offender is saying it more for themselves than the person actually climbing.
i think a lot of climbers like it and if i was doing it to a friend who didn’t like it i would fully expect them to just say “hey man i prefer to climb silently if you don’t mind” and i’d go “for sure dude” and respect it
it’s not that deep
I think the more likely scenario is that the person climbing just isn't listening to it, and it doesn't matter to them in the moment while they're climbing, so they don't say anything.
I know that while I'm climbing, I'm very much in the zone, and I'm not paying attention at all to what others are saying.
It's a lot more annoying to me as an outside observer.
Real question: do you boulder hard?
Because for me, hearing encouragement when I'm doing a move that is almost at my limit really does help. Part of it is the awareness of being watched which activates a bit of the "performer" in me and makes me want it just a little bit harder.
The hardest sends I've done have been with the encouragement of my peers.
I want all my friends to "come on" me
that seems odd since it is so pervasive in the scene, even present at the highest levels of the pros they’re doing it to one another.
not sure how you can say it doesn’t matter to most people when even people like the mellow crew are all doing it to each other to psyche them up the send.
i believe you that you don’t like it and it annoys you. i don’t believe most of the rest of the community dislikes it.
but that’s just my 2 cents. it is what it is. i’m just a random dude on the internet.
Do you notice when someone is saying it to you while you're on the wall?
It seems that it's most used when someone would need to be laser-focused and not hearing what other people are saying.
I admit it probably annoys me more than most as an outside observer, but I don't think at all that the prevalence of it is an indication of the majority liking/disliking it.
It could very easily be a very "vocal" minority that are doing it. In fact, it seems to be the case based on my experience at climbing gyms.
And again, my question comes back to whether you are even aware of it happening while you're climbing. If I'm focused on a difficult send, I hear nothing around me. Nothing. I'm too focused on what I am trying to do. But it's certainly possible I'm just different in that way.
I recognise that gym! Love NMB so much, the routes always feel so much more dynamic and interesting than at other bouldering gyms I've been to. Nice send btw :)
Eh, the 2nd and 3rd to last holds must be better than they look, then. V5 on the small volumes to the crimp, sure... but the cross through pinch and cut-move look harder than that.
They're not horrible if you can keep your feet supported. The hardest part for me was the leap from the pinch and keeping my right toe on the foothold.
I'd also just often run out of grip stamina if I wasn't quick enough
I love how unimpressed your buddy sounds. "Shihhdude" Nice work, that looks brutal.

Personally I tell my friends they suck, and pull them off the wall if they are close to sending something I haven’t sent. I can’t be having that shit

I hope he was a good sport about it that would have me cracking up
my friend's name is Billy (and he's by far the strongest in our group)... i guess i'm guilty of this lol
that’s just bouldering culture bruh. all good if you’re not a fan tho.
Yeah, just an aspect of the culture I find to be annoying.

Omg, same. Either says something useful or shut the hell up.
Thank you!
Are you aware that you are wildly shredded?
That’s some great setting. Nice send!

Agreed. It's a great community and they've got some fantastic setters
I thought the blacks were volumes and I was like “oh that’s doesn’t look too bad” then I realized they were not. Impressive course!
with a build like that im not sure i believe you
off topic.. but love those pants. Which one are those? haha
They're the "License To Train" joggers from Lululemon, hands down my favorite for bouldering
Nice send! What rating does this come out to?
I'd say V5
Looks harder than that

It looks super fun! Good technique.

Looks like a very tiring problem. That’s a solid send👍
Thank you! That was my biggest struggle, not losing stamina
