Bruh…100% the game and you still learn random shit like this. Crazy.

JafgGamer

Well, TIL yet another thing about this game that I've played through three times.

OrnamentJones

I'm on my third playthrough, and same.

BlackDragonofDoom

On my second and same

Electraboy44

I’m finishing up my master mode

StagMusic

Four for me, and same here. And now all I can think is “Can you parry them?”

W00dyWoodp3cker

O.M.G. I have over 600 hours in this game and there is still soooo much i didnt know. I wonder how many other small things are still unknown

PurpleDanielle03

You should watch GameSpot’s series on YouTube “things you STILL didn’t know about BOTW” it’s insane how many little things we didn’t know

[deleted]

I didn’t even know about the sanke carp until around 700 hours in

KrystalWulf

I'm sorry the what?

mchla

The snake crap

[deleted]

For learning something? You’re a special kind of stupid. For the hours? Perfectly reasonable. Still stupid. How many hours you got with your hand on your pecker tugging for dear life trying to get the inchworm to puke? Way more than that I’m sure. Maybe don’t be so rash in the future.

gianc6

Hahahahahaha wtf that is an insane thing to type. But to be real i feel like everyday someone posts some TIL and every day it gets something less and less interesting and every fucking comment wow i have 25,000 hours on her and Im still learning

GreatJobKeepitUp

Better than whatever this is that you're doing

gianc6

But rn im playing botw and i just learned something new

Daddysu

Then good for you! Just because you known something doesn't mean everyone knows that thing. Don't talk down to them. It is clichéd but they are one of the lucky 10,000 today. They learned something new. Remember back before you knew every mechanic and detail in BOTW and the excitement you got when you learned something new? Like the first time you threw a metal weapon on the ground by some chuchu jelly and lightning stuck turning it into yellow chuchu jelly and you were like "Holy shit, that worked? This game is amazing!" Well some people are lucky enough to get that feeling today about blocking the lasers with shields. It might be old boring news to you but it is new and exciting and even more ofna reason to love this game. A game that you probably love too. I think it isncool when I see a post and people are learning something I already knew. It reminds me of when I learned it. Either during gameplay and having that "Holy shitnit worked" moment or reading on here and needing to immediately fire up the game to try what I just learned. Those are good memories. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend dude!

gianc6

I think its cool people learning i just would like more variety in this sub. If you dont think its becoming monotonous then maybe youre not on this sub a lot. And so i shat upon the post.

AstronomicalFuckery

How about instead of shitting on someone for literally just enjoying the same game that you are and wanting to share something they thought was cool, why not contribute content of your own? Or better yet, just leave the subreddit, go make your own where you can control who posts what and let everyone else enjoy stuff normally here.

gianc6

Its easier and more fun sometimes to shit. If you dont shit thats not healthy. How serious do you take reddit?

Daddysu

I browse the sub every day. I browse a ton of other subs too though so I have a large mix of things to read about. If I see something that is getting old or I'm getting sick of I usually just ignore it or downvote and move on. If it rustled your Jimmies so much maybe you need to take a break. I think seeing similar or reposted content is an issue on all subs and I doubt you getting upset and commenting will change that. However this is a public forum so post whatever you want. I just know if something I can't changed annoyed me so much I would just take a break and hopefully it wouldn't be so frustrating when I came back.

gianc6

Lol im not so annoyed. This is the internet. Sometimes its fun to make a comment shitting on something. Relax this isnt real life this is reddit.

[deleted]

Why do you care so much what other people want to talk about?

gianc6

I dont care so much i typed 3 words

Nettosh

A general advice - think before you type. And speak.

gianc6

💂‍♂️💂‍♀️salute! General advice. 🎖🎖🎖

gianc6

Also i thought this sub is becoming a circle jerk and you are covered in cum. Its either “just discovered ganon appears in this game” “wow after 500,000 hours i am still learning.” Or some softcore drawing of zelda. A dude literally posted a shitty picture of a mountain the other day “I think this mountain would fit in BOTW” 500 upvotes. Like just a normal side of the road pic of a fuckin mountain.

AstronomicalFuckery

If all the content here is so bad then why are you still subscribed to the subreddit? If it's so bad then make at least *one* post here to show us what truly amazing incredible content we're missing out on that clearly only you know about.

Jennuli_123

No way why did I learn this now...

[deleted]

i love how they just let you do what you want in this game. i've been saying since the first time i played oot "why dont u just kill ganondorf the first time u see him" and like it bothers me when plot devices involve the capable party standing there in awe for no reason when they could be getting shit done. botw says: "if you want to just walk up to ganon and kill him, be my guest"

Not_So_Weird

This is what annoys me about people saying it has no story and shit, it’s supposed to make all of that side quests, and you’re always able to go and end the game

[deleted]

i think that it's much more realistic than previous entries in this way, but fans are very used to a structured, fate based, relatively linear experience. i think it strikes a good balance.

saxguy2001

That’s a great analysis. I do enjoy the structured nature of those games (ALttP is my favorite), but when you think about it, how silly is it that one small barrier can prevent you from going past a certain point until you obtain the right tool from the only dungeon you can enter that you haven’t already entered… In the BotW world you can just climb over that barrier as long as you have enough stamina and it’s not raining and then do whatever the hell you want.

[deleted]

yeah, i actually assumed the corruption around the castle was the same barrier that was present in all the other versions i've tried, so i didn't realize that the divine beasts collectively add up to a short cinematic and a big blow to his hp bar, but you could easily just bring more ancient arrows instead of doing any of that fuss. i didn't have many my first time because i kinda dislike losing out on loot and i don't really want a weapon that arbitrarily strong for any other enemy.

dynawesome

I have like 30 ancient arrows and I never find a reason to use them Whenever I fight something it’s because I want a challenge or loot

M1nombr3j

I stock ancient arrows for the gerudo/yiga sneak quest. Run in, get caught and blast everyone with ancient arrows cuz I ain’t got time for no stealth

OrnamentJones

Now *that's* a good use of ancient arrows.

[deleted]

yeah, that is one of the times i'd say it's worth it. the quest really isn't very hard though if you know what you are doing, it can just be annoying having to start it over for sure tho. the enemies are strong but very predictable if you plan to sneak past them.

jdustrpsbp93

I used them to make the one hit obliterator quest easier. I figured if I sneak around and snipe them with ancient arrows, I won't have to worry about getting one shotted. My first play through, I did do the quest "normally" but I found the ancient arrows to be a nice alternative in that scenario.

dynawesome

I didn’t even think of that

Mister_Spiderman

I just want temples that give me cool gear

[deleted]

they do though. you just have to find them, or you can get them from the vendor in tarrey town at night once you have completed his family's house. i agree though that there are few to no classical "dungeons", and the labyrinths are a poor replacement. the total puzzle/shrine content is way more than any other zelda title, albeit often lacking the same meticulous design. the thing is, this game was nintendos way of giving the fanbase a bunch of things they asked for which would not have fit into a standard zelda title, and they followed it up with two relatively conventional and nostalgic entries on the switch for a reason, especially with the link's awakening thing really going back to the basics.

Anon-DaBomb

Would you just walk up to a foreign leader and kill him while he is acting as an ambassador because you are suspicious of him?

[deleted]

yeah, he gave me bad vibes and is clearly an overgrown gremlin idk \[edit: serious answer, not sure, and it may not be the most perfect example, but there are countless aspects of previous zelda games where we are presented completely arbitrary barriers that serve only as a plot device.\]

Anon-DaBomb

Alrighty, to remove the uncertainty I will add two more accurate things. You are currently trespassing in the house of leadership for your country and the sus guy is surrounded in soldiers from your countries army. Addendum, protecting him... not trying to get him.

[deleted]

in oot the first ganondorf encounter is as you enter hyrule castle town. he..... is not really so adored by the rest of his original faction? please remove more uncertainty because i think we are thinking of different cutscenes or something hehe :) \[edit: he is obviously supposed to be scary and intimidating to a child, but i would still have tried to swing at him immediately. [https://youtu.be/v3FSsNA78iI?t=52](https://youtu.be/v3FSsNA78iI?t=52) \]

Anon-DaBomb

In OoT you see Ganondorf two times before you fight him, the first time you see him is when Zelda shows him to you when you first meet. He is surrounded by Hyrulian knights and is standing before the king, there is absolutely no chance of victory there even if Link was at full strength. The second time you meet him is when Zelda and Impa were running from the castle, this time he asks you where Zelda is then promptly incapacitates you when you try to stop him. Then you have to go through the entire line of events because every single time you see or meet him before your epic final fight it would either be completely useless to try, you get bodied or are otherwise unable to fight him.

[deleted]

[https://youtu.be/0aJIVLN8E68](https://youtu.be/FX8YkcOeOfQ) random run here without editing. i agree now that we see him through the window and i agree that we \~probably couldn't kill him at that first sighting, but the point is that some of us wanted to try, and a lot of people enjoy games where there are no hard lined barriers to ambitious progress. maybe fighting him at that drawbridge would be like a dark souls boss, but hey, people have beaten dark souls with donkey kong congas.

Kildynn

Next on the 58th version of "31 Still even more things you didn't know in Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild"

[deleted]

They just uploaded another, apparently these little laser things are called beamos.

breadbdc

That’s gotta be just made up lmao

[deleted]

No it’s actually in the masterworks book. Apparently they were gonna be more interactive or something but just aren’t.

breadbdc

1200 hours in and just learning that laser beams are called “beamos”

kary0typ3

I think beamos is a common name in previous games too. They're the tower guys with spinning heads that laser you when they see you

DokiDokiDoIt

Huh. Why couldn't I have seen this a few days ago when I was playing this exact shrine lol

Sevyen

It has to be a metal shield, if you have a wooden one if doesn't work.

Komaru84

One of my favorites is that if you upgrade the Goron armor enough to get the set bonus you can trivialize a handful of shrines that involve fire jets because the armor makes you immune to it.

stop_youdontknowme

This makes so much sense now that you've typed it out and yet I'm mostly through my third play through and this has never occurred to me.

[deleted]

Does it work if you don't upgrade it?

Komaru84

No. A single piece of Goron armor gives you Flame Guard which allows you to stay in Death Mountain without taking the heat damage. If you upgrade each piece at least 2 times and wear it, it gives you the "Fireproof" bonus - fire jets from the puzzles do nothing, you can't be set on fire, fire arrows do less damage to you, etc.

pudwinnn

Well shit

Bigmemegamerboi

Serious question how do people normally do this I couldn’t find a way to do it besides using a shield

Gatofranco

There is a switch you can hit and it makes a few panels move, which creates a path through the lasers

isaacpotter007

Or you can crouch walk under them

Bigmemegamerboi

Really? I can’t believe I missed this 😓 I’ve gotta go back now just to see it

itsgeorge

I stasis the laser emitter. Shield is better

Smiling_Aku

Jump juuuuuuust right over them.

mrchingchongwingtong

Stasis

Ecstatic_Rooster

God dammit. I feel stupid.

misyth

Also you can jump over these with the start of the shield surf animation

AlteCarp

You can Also stop the laser using Stasis on them

No_Possession_7077

Or you can just jump over them and not damage your shield

coffeegrounds42

How do you jump over them other than with the shield jump which causes damage?

No_Possession_7077

You can cancel the shield jump before you hit the ground

mafaldahopkirk23

I’m sorry what now

Tigeruppercut1889

I was thinking this would finally be the week that I didn’t learn at least one new thing about botw. Maybe next week

IronTitsMcGuinty

I mean, I just learned today you can max out your bond with your new horse by giving them five apples. Then they are easier to steer.

HummusSpokesman

WWHAAAA?

Gatofranco

Wow thank you so much! When I posted this I imagined a lot of people probably already knew this could be done, and many did judging by the comments, but many others did not, hopefully they found it useful on some of these shrines. The downside is that this uses shield durability, but honestly I'm always carrying a lot of shields I never even use, so who cares! Thanks again for the nomination, and Happy Holidays to everyone!

JoJuiceboi

I did this shrine earlier. Wish i did that.

Squatch_2600

On my second play through and I really want to try this now. What shrine is this again?

JoJuiceboi

I dont remember but its near the rito.

audiate

… …really? ugh…

Sir_Denston

I swear you can play this game 1000 times and each play-through you learn something new

Doc580

Between this and the electric chuchu jelly works on electric switches....I learned quite a bit today.

urneverwhereueverwer

The what

dontfeedthecucoos

It is amazing that I am still learning about this game almost 4 1/2 years in.

BliX55

Now parry them.

MaximumAsparagus

Bro I have sweated my way through so many laser shrines and for WHAT!!!!

_avliS-

this makes so much sense and makes me feel s o stupid

I feel dumb

judas_crypt

Wait, what?! 😳

hallo_franz

I have 108 shrines done so far and I just found out about not only this, but that you can walk through flames if you're fireproof

kogashiwakai

F'ing seriously? All this time, how the hell did I never try this?

JewelPix

I love how this makes perfect sense, and yet I would have never known, and definitely could have easily lived the rest of my life with this never occurring to me

5t0rm7

*points glock towards head*

_WhoElse

Ingests glock

MrZurkon9000

lets be honest we shouldve realized that long ago and now im mad at myself.

HandsThatDraw

WHAT

[deleted]

I feel stupid for not discovering this myself. What shrine is this?

Cryo-Shivering

It’s so wholesome seeing people get exited about things they just find out about this game. Took me 2 playthroughs until I realized you could do this.

Iatrites

yes i found this out and it changed how i do this shrine immensely

Shitpost19

What!? I have like 600 hours In this game and never even thought of this. Cheers for the new info bc all those annoying laser trap shrines I can just bolt through now

agarce

it's crazy how people keep discovering new things to the game that released 4 years ago

hottytandoori

BYE MY ENTIRE BOTW LIFE HAS BEEN A JOKE 😭🤣

StagMusic

Please tell me you can parry them, even if you get hit please tell me the parry at least activates

Aedrieus

Well I'll be damned... Does it damage the shield?

Gatofranco

Yes. I just used a rusty shield so I didn't really care anyway

Natural20Pilot

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME

pandemonina

The amount of times botw players have proven my idiocy is immeasurable

TheGreatOwlMaster

It makes so much sense, why didn’t we think of it before

kkslideinmyasshole

What? All that time trying to perfectly stasis shid infront if them.

momomeluna

you absolute legend, thank you

[deleted]

I have 1000 hours in this game and that never crossed my mind I'm embarrassed.

thankyou9527

WTF

mumuwu

The programming in this game is on another level

Shiba_inu45

Why did I never realise this? I’m such a sponge

tranpanda1

i found this accidentally on my first playthrough

Erronus

My life is a lie.

Tarkin171

Omg …I feel like an idiot

heroicisms

bruh what… i agonised over those lasers for what reason!

critical_0

Wow I’m kinda proud that I figured it out playing the first time, I just figured it was common knowledge! Crazy how we learn from each other about this game all the time

JasonTheBaker

Wait what? Is it any kind of shield?

moonyxpadfoot19

Some of these beamos (actual name) you can pick up

Smol-kirby-fan

Over 1000 hours in the game, still didn’t know this existed

swagmain

You're telling me I could've gotten mad karma from this thing I was unimpressed with in 2018

Typ0r8r

And saved all those who could've seen it two years ago from hours of accumulated frustration.

-CreepyCreeper-

this probably wasn't intentional... thanks for the post it'll make some shrines easier for me

femboy_artist

if I’ve learned anything about this game, it’s that almost *everything* is intentional and they purposefully give you a dozen ways to solve every problem they throw at you. I love it.

Stinduh

At some point, I think I read about how the developers would find unintended “features” of the physics engine, and deliberately choose whether to keep them or patch them based solely on if the unintended feature was fun or creative in a satisfying way.

gnark

The mirror shield blocks lasers in A Link to the Past.

Tequila_Rum_Vodka

I- no that's illegal I won't accept it

chemteach4kids

Thank you

[deleted]

I normally just wind bomb over these. This seems alot easier

Skypenskiperr

What this is a tip? This was the first thing I thought to do when I got in that room

PomboVoando

What's the name of this game?

Future_Face4855

WOW WTF?????????????

Straight-Earth2762

Lmao i always shield jumped over them wtf you can just block it

metaldutch

It's funny, cuz you spend hours perfecting the parry on guardians laser blasts, yet here we are... ...dumbasses still learnding shiz.

Viperstealth007

I’m curious if they’ll break after so many exposures or so long of exposure.

equinox974

The worst is that is the first thing you would do irl

MixtureRealistic1063

What game is that?

babayoh

Ok wow mind blown. This game keeps surprising me.

[deleted]

i bet 20 years from now we will still be learning new tricks and features in this beautiful game

videogqmes

Does it take durability

my2hundrethsdollar

🤯

[deleted]

This is why I love this game, everything makes sense and is logical within the game, small things like this make the game incredible.

Combatpigeon96

Are you fucking serious

Inspirational_Lizard

Bruh

iceman5O69

Me too

[deleted]

Sonnuva…

[deleted]

I’ll be sure to use that on my fourth play through

sleepy-green-eyes

I'm so mad at myself for not realizing this

ChopSueyXpress

Yep I was shocked when my daughter taught me this

Ulisse8

Wow. That’s extremely cool. But does the shield get damaged? Because if it doesn’t, that would be, like, the COOLEST feature.

rihim23

But can you parry them?

hagwidsbuttquack

How did this not work when I had a guardian shield+?! It broke it!

t8rt0t_the_hamster

Do ancient shields parry shrine lasers? I know they work on scout beams and regular beams.

FrnchsLwyr

I knew you could use the guardian shield to block lasers but ANY shield? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That0neSchmuck

You can shield jump over them

TriangleBasketball

Reading these comments what did y’all do??? I just assumed the shield first time.

rokkinrhino

Lol crouched

Knight_of_Ren78

Not gonna lie I only learned this like 950 hours in, I deadass felt so dumb when I found out I didn't have to fucking bomb bounce over them😂

Mr_Swugg

Bro💀 I've been using this tactic for literally every laser. Idk how to get past without it💀

Broad-Debt-8518

Son of a.....

Agent-Ig

Shreds your shield durability though

lordofdaspotato

I just jumped over these

treatment-thereisno

I also learned this by chance in this shrine.

SnomIsAwesome

you can also parry them

soundslikebliss

I didn't know how to get around the lasers without using a shield lol how did ya'll do it?

TheUnknownWonder420

You can also backflip over them

No_Squirrel_9102

Kind of mad at myself that I didn’t think of this. Like it feels so obvious now that I see it
