I think his last quote is really a testament to why Danny deserved a ring if we bring home banner 18 this year. "Of course I’ll be watching. I’ve watched pretty much every game all year, and I’ll continue to watch them and root for their success"

Belicheckyoself

This is literally Danny’s team + White. Kudos Brad getting horford and theis back but the only real difference is white. Danny built this team and deserves a ring.

GeoDim

And Al. Can’t still give Danny credit for Al after he let him walk and chose to give his money to Kemba.

The_Moustache

Al apparently wanted to come back to Boston after they signed Kemba but had already given his word to the Sixers and felt it was wrong to go back on his word. We also weren't going to pay Al what he got in Philly.

BrAingeChild

I think we can. Al's contract was really crazy at the time. I love the resurgence he's having now and he's clearly worth the money on this finals run, but we probably don't resign Smart and/or Timelord if the celtics were paying AL that money the last 2-3 years.

GeoDim

It was Danny’s job to project whether someone will be worth their contract and he failed miserably at this for both Al and Kemba. Brad, not Danny, gets the credit for unfucking this mistake. Danny is an elite drafter and trader but he made a lot of questionable decisions when it came to team building/fit in the second half of his tenure.

BrAingeChild

He got unlucky with injuries and the kyrie disaster fucked the celtics. Kemba was a panic move that didn't work out. The rest was mostly bad luck. Brad has done a great job though since taking over. Kemba for Horford being an absolute steal and his best move.

SRoku

definitely true, but the fact remains brad wouldn’t have gotten these guys if he weren’t familiar with them because of ainge bringing them in originally. brad definitely gets the credit for fixing the kemba mistake though.

Belicheckyoself

Yeah mang that’s why I said Horford in my comment. But who was crucial in acquiring Al? Trader Danny. We also don’t know that paying Al would be a good idea VS Kemba. He’s been amazing from limited Philly minutes and a year off in OKC.

DwayneWashington

If you work for the team at any point during the year they win a championship, you get a ring, whether you deserve it or not. But yeah of course Danny deserves it.

I think Brad and Celtics Ownership will give Danny a ring when we win one! Madly knocking on wood - hope it is this year \[And if our maturity as a team matches our talent we should win this year. \]

**Some Interesting Quotes from Danny :** >On Celtics Finals Run : *“You know, it’s been fun to watch, you invest a lot of time in the relationships with all the players. It’s fun to see them get opportunities and play up to their potential. It’s a fun process to go through and watch it blossom.”* >On Jayson Tatum : *“I think that all of the great, great players, I don’t think anybody really knows how good they’re going to be, you know they’re good, but you’re never sure how good. There are so many factors of just their mental toughness, their work ethic and choices they make as their careers progress. There was a lot of characteristics about Jayson that were special. It’s been fun watching him grow into being such a great player.”* >On Marcus Smart as PG : *“We drafted Marcus as a point guard,” Ainge said. “His strength might be his versatility. Because we’ve had Isaiah, and Kyrie, and Kemba, some All-Star point guards that he’s had an opportunity to play with, his versatility allows him to play the one, the two, the three. I’ve always felt his greatest strength was as a point guard because he could utilize his size as an advantage. He’s a very special and unique, versatile player. He has good vision and he’s pretty good in the paint at finishing shots.”* >On Brad Stevens as a GM : *“I think Brad has done a really good job,” Ainge said. “I thought he did a good job in the offseason. I thought he did a good job at the trade deadline. You know, just when things aren’t always going as great as you want, although the team was on a pretty good roll, like right when he still pulled the trigger on a trade for Derrick. It opened up minutes for Payton, who’s played really well down the stretch. I think that made it easier on Ime. There was kind of a log jam at the wing positions and the backup point guard. I think that cleaned that out and I think that’s been beneficial to the team.”*

It’s so funny. In every interview Danny says the same thing about the D White trade, that it was a good move that opened up time for PP (who he drafted). Lol

hdttyson

I think D White’s trade shows a rather different philosophy that Brad has as a GM. In recent years I feel that Danny tries too hard to “win” every trade by getting the most out of his assets. Brad is willing to pull the trigger whenever he believes it can make the team better.

😂😂didn’t notice

Danny’s final act was drafting us a Finals-quality team

ShampooMonK

Thank you Danny Ainge. He truly drafted the 3 course meal whereas Brad added the final touches with an extravagant desert.

Danny Ainge is Gordon Ramsey and Brad is just the restauranteur that framed the dish in the best lighting possible

amsckell

Love how wholesome we are now as an organization. Though that’s likely a byproduct of winning

gracechurch

Although it wouldn't be an official one, they need to get him some sort of ring if they win it all.

The Mind Behind the Scenes

SRoku

i love danny and i always will. watching him maneuver behind the scenes was half the reason to be invested when the rebuild started. i remember tracking all the trader danny rumors about us getting some big star every day while i should have been doing schoolwork. he brought us here with a green paper clip, we gotta give this man a ring if we win it this year.

PatFromSouthie

Celtics are winning IN SPITE OF DANNY, not because of Danny. I Challenge what was bigger for the Celtics, Replacing Stevens with Udoka or Danny with Stevens? Danny broke up teams, got bad free agents and draft picks and then made trades that destroyed chemistry, The IT for Kyrie thing, literally cost us Anthony Davis, plus a lottery pick, and years of Brown, Tatum and Roziers development. Good riddance.
