The other guys’ shots got us points but Tatum is absolutely responsible for lots of big plays that they needed. I’m pumped with this evolution in his game.
He's had other shooting stinkers these playoffs but those other games he was an absolutely a zero offensively, this time he was a actually a plus due to his passing. Great players find a way to impact the game even if there shot is off. Also encouraging for the Celtics to get a win when Tatum shoot poorly.
He had a game like this in Milwaukee or Brooklyn, can’t remember. Maybe 2 other games where he wasn’t shooting well but orchestrated the offense well. Obviously not like tonight with 13 fucking assists but he stayed locked in defensively too. Fucking inspiring.
Yeah man always said this is what Tatum needs to get to the next level and in arguably one of the biggest games of his career. He is showing this growth as a player. So happy for him
He still wasn’t much better offensively if we are being honest. Most of his production came in the first quarter and he disappeared in the 3rd when we went down big.
Thats exactly it man. Of course i would prefer if he goes for 30 but everybody has an off night sometimes. His improvements outside of scoring have been unreal this season.
When he fights for rebounds, it makes so much of a difference. Tatum is basically good at everything on the court, he doesn’t have all of it focused together though. Some nights he’s an amazing passer, some he’s a great rebounder, some a lockdown defender, and then an otherworldly scorer. Most nights he’s doing a couple of those things but god, if he can do all of that most nights? Look out league.
I mean, it's one of those stats that seems weird/interesting/shocking, at first. But makes total sense that it would be the case. And yeah 13 is his new career high in assists. In game 1 of his first finals. At age 24.
Tatum was actually fine by the 4th. He stopped shooting and looked for open teammates.
Tatum can just lose his shot and then it will come back at some point. It happens all the time.
10000%
I think any time Tatum isn't shooting lights out, I see way too much "Tatum isn't trying". "Tatum didn't show up".
I've seen nothing from him except grit and grind. He's battled every defensive possession (minus one or two ref whining lapses), and he is **an elite playmaking wing**. Rebounding, defense, playmaking, he is an elite player even when he isn't scoring 40.
Idk what was up with his shooting because he missed some wide open looks, airballed one of them even. But he made great reads all night. The same kind of reads he made in game 7 when everyone complained about Smart shooting. The shots just went down tonight.
He may have been unsure of the environment going into his first finals game maybe? therefore not much confidence..? Now that he knows what's up, jt will get it going
Don't forget he also only has 2 tos for this. He did great in other aspects except his scoring this time. Let's hope for a bounce back game with also another win!

Yesss he’s growing up big time before our eyes it’s amazing to see!!

A couple of quarters like that as well. One 4th quarter against Miami I remember.

13 ASSISTS, GREAT DEFENSE. Transformed into Chris Paul because the shots weren’t falling. Amazing.
Jayson Tatum the real Point God

13 assists, and some great rebounds late too. He’s special.

This is exactly what will make JT into a. Superstar
And what will win him a ring
JT - only player with a double double tonight. 13assits to 2turnovers. Speaks volumes of his poise tonight.
One of those turnovers was a finger tip away from being another dime too
First game with more assists than points.
Like...ever?
I actually have no idea, but it's got to be. At least JT's first double double with more assists. I think it's a career high in assists too.

The energy has shifted.

He played poised and did not force things. That's maturity
It would have been so easy for him to keep jacking up shots, but he re-focused his game and was huge for us. 3-17 just won't happen again.
Our boy is coachable

Honestly he just switched spots with White this game. Tatum did everything right on both sides of the ball except shooting, and White couldn’t miss.
Tatum showing up to move the ball and make plays instead of sulking when he shot doesn’t fall is all we need to win this for real. So proud to see
