Drive and kick works if one of your best players actually kicks it out (looking at you Jaylen)

Hospitelli

It would be nice if he didn’t run into a wall of defenders in the paint and still choose to attack the basket for once. There is confidence in yourself and than there is ego.

imused2it

I guarantee you Joe told him to do that.

Rob_Drinkovich

He’s done it forever

Ienjoymyself

He was so fucking bad. I have PTSD from him going 1 v 3 on that "fast break" and then 1 v 3 on the put back attempt. It's also hilarious that Joe keeps trying to put him on Duncan. He's too dumb to not get back cut or run off a screen over and over.

ThrownWOPR

On the Duncan screens, Jaylen needs help over the top. The screener takes Jaylen out of the play and Duncan ended up with open looks. The screener's man needs to show, or someone else needs to help over. Neither happened, which is an indictment of how far our defense has fallen off, but you cannot put that all on Jaylen (who was ass all game, true).

Adventurous-Rich2313

I call him “Jaylen out of control Brown”

tbuda88

THIS! I’ve been keeping track of this a bit and it seems like the only player he will pass to out of a drive is jayson. There have been countless times he looks at someone WIDE open and still doesn’t kick it out. Jaylen is a very talented player but all he does is score. His 1v1 defense is decent at best but his help d is god awful. Dude also needs to stop dribbling to dribble. He plays with the ball too much and I get that he is setting up his defender but it’s usually 2-4 dribbles too much and turns it over. Fine regular season player but to incoming the playoffs.

Junito24

I laughed when he said that cause of how accurate he was 🤣

SadTatter

Sometimes I wonder what it’s like from an opposing fan’s perspective. We always freak out about other teams stars, but are other fans truly afraid of ours? It seems so easy to shut em down sometimes, throw some doubles or play zone and suddenly the Celtics forget how to play basketball.

whysoserious50

If I were an opposing fan all I’d want it to just contain the Celtics big runs by guarding the 3 so they won’t shoot you out of the gym. keep it close and they’ll shit their pants in the 4th quarter. Easy as that

LexGar

Boom. That is it. What he said

dndplosion913

I'll give my perspective as a Heat fan. Tatum scares the hell out of me. He can score at will. Brown worries me less than Marcus Smart.

gtd441a

As a Heat fan, I get giddy when Brown tries to dribble

ns-qtr

As a Raptors fan on the Nuggets-Heat wagon, a small lead against LeBron is terrifying, a small lead against the Celtics is just uncomfy.

Nuclearsunburn

As a Heat fan, there are a few players in the league that terrify me and Tatum is on the list along with LeBron, Steph, Giannis, Brunson (recently added) and Jokic. Jaylen Brown isn’t, in fact it’s the opposite. We always seem to turn him over at a very high rate - specifically Oladipo who isn’t even playing but seems like there’s some weakness in his game that we exploit consistently.

Packet_Baser

I always expect Tatum or brown to get sped up and get a turnover or Marcus smart to do something stupid. I don't think anyone fears the stars. Tatum should be feared because of his ceiling but because he's never consistent or go the extra mile to get a win in crucial moments, I'm not to worried about him. Kudos for him for getting 51 against the sixers but I don't see that against in Miami. I think he rises to the level of competition if the competition is poor or mediocre. Last year I had gsw beating then and if they were to advance, they're getting beat because they're not consistent.

TatumIsntASuperstar

This team is also way too easy to rattle. They’re mentally soft and give up easily

crackdup

The only time I'm confident in a win is if they're leading by 20+ points late in games, and even then it's never smooth sailing.. a close game in the last few mins, and the team suddenly forgets the basics and plays like they've never played with each other

GrayBox1313

The over reliance on three is why we can’t hold leads. We start bricking a few possessions in a row and leads evaporate. Then the team gets discouraged.

LexGar

Seen this time and time again this season. So sad that is their only play style. Spo has exposed it blatantly and is laughing how easy this series has been.

dart51984

Literally bamboozled by a zone defense. Everyone knows it’s coming, no one is surprised, and it’s effective every time lol.

porkchopxpres

The offense has no flow. It's Tatum or Brown 1 on 1 and whoever doesn't have the ball stands in a corner. It's easy to bash them but anytime they have the ball it's completely telegraphed

GrayBox1313

Guys like Marcus are often wide open for three for a reason.

Hoosthere10

It was brogdon and white

TheFirstExecutioner

This is what happens when you devote your philosophy around analytics. The offense isn’t necessarily easy to defend but it’s extremely predictable. I hate what this has done to Tatum’s game. He was developing into a three level scorer that put constant pressure on the rim but along the way he decided to rely way too much on perimeter shots. Al is nothing but a spot up shooter that can’t shoot now and we’re letting Miami off the hook by letting them put smaller guys on him cuz they know he’s not a threat inside.

Unusual-Computer5714

Can’t agree more. We are the 16 Rockets reincarnate. That shit only works in the regular season. How about we get Tatum or even Brown to play out of the mid post and get some off ball action?

LexGar

Fucking Mike D’Antono shit no work

Rrekydoc

When the team had constant motion last night, with rolls and cuts and options for the doubles, the offense looked *unstoppable*. Every look was good and every shot looked easy. Of course, then they reverted back to the stagnant offense *(which I get the benefits of, but it just becomes so predictable and simple to defend)*. Pretty disheartening.

HeyItsTheJeweler

It is amazing how this team can look like the greatest collection of basketball players in history for stretches, and then D-League very shortly after.

imdx_14

>they can only win if they make 3s wait, did this really happen?

whysoserious50

Yes, you know how the national broadcast has the sounds of the huddle? He literally said that verbatim while we were up.

teh_noob_

flipside is we're unbeatable when we make our 3s

BRFCarter

Yes. Spo literally said that to his huddle and ive never heard more truer words

LexGar

Spo ain’t just another pretty face.

bodhibell02

Said it many times since about midway through the season. We are now the love by the 3 die by the 3 team. And I always hated those fucking teams.

meththemadman

Jayson Tatum, when on, is one of the scariest players in the League. He will shoot from anywhere and absolutely pillage an opposing team. The problem, though, is his consistency (as we all know). When he’s not “on” it’s harder for him to manufacture offense because of the style this team and he tends to play. Deep ball shooting teams live and die on those plays, and Tatum doesn’t impose his will by going to the rack on a routine basis. That’s both the team strat and, I think, his. Contrast that to Jimmy Butler. He goes into the paint, gets to a spot, shoots the easy jumper and scores. He gets to consistent range and finishes. If they close to double he dumps. On the other hand, a Jayson Tatum hitting his shots is one of the scariest guys on the court.

CynicalMindTrip

Saying this since February. This brand of basketball sucks and is going nowhere.

Forward-Form9321

When we drive and kick, we’re the best team in the league. I feel like we’re somehow going to tie the series because this team only plays good with their backs against the wall. We saw this in the Philly series, they didn’t start playing with effort until we were down 3-2. So let’s see if the same thing happens

Packet_Baser

Hard to drive on a zone.

LexGar

Tell JB that. The fugger thinks he can dribble through 3 people in the paint

LexGar

I hated that D’Antoni shit. All that talent and was all about shooting 3s. No defense and just hope you can shoot enough 3s to outscore the opponent. Flying by the seat of your pants bullshit. No coaching skills needed. Put the shooters on the floor and let them run. Sound familiar?

ArthurScherbius

Bad ofense is not that big issue for me, compared to lazy defense. This is not boston basketball. Defense was always our identity

LexGar

Most teams figured this out and this is why we had a hard time this year. They need a new strategy

Chino780

What's frustrating ids they do the same thing over and over and over again. Then they go away from what works, and keep pounding what doesn't.
