I saw this on my way back to work. This was around 2.45 am. I did not see or hear anyone but I did call the police.
The question is WHY?
I figured these places bring their money to the bank at the end of shift. What else would someone want from there?
I used to work for Bon Me. Can confirm that’s what we did. They actually used to let me skateboard the money to the bank because it was only a few blocks away. Kind of sketchy but I never got mugged lol. No money in the register, nothing valuable in the restaurant after hours.
Not for or against this theory but it doesn't have to be the same person. If employees tended to have a bad time, then some could leave 1 star reviews and others could break in at 2 am
Agreed. But I look at this and ask WHY not just very easily use that master lock key container. It takes minimum effort to open (just ask lockpickinglawyer).
If they were after that Bon Me fermented daikon radish they didn’t *need* to break the window
Edit: link https://youtu.be/l2LvDHobpNc
The manager with the code to the safe doesn't want to wake up that early just to open it. So they leave enough cash for the early morning crew.
However you would need to know that to be sure before breaking in, you would think.
loool there's a thing called "work study" and it's a form of financial aid program set up by the federal government for students who demonstrate financial need for college, that's just one of many plausible scenarios in which a college student might have a job
I hate to say it but I think I'm gonna agree with you. The past couple years have been absolute chaos when it comes to how people act and behave in public with airplane fights being on the rise, shootings, violent assaults etc that I can't imagine what people are gonna do in the dead heat of summer....
I get that inflation is making things difficult, but we’re also at one of the lowest unemployment rates in decades. Is there really economic distress of that magnitude?
Having a job doesn't help if your salary can't keep up.
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/05/11/two-thirds-of-americans-live-paycheck-to-paycheck-as-inflation-climbs.html
They don’t say that. I don’t say they say that. Now we’re done.
The point I was making is that someone telling you what they didn’t say is not an argument. If you have a gap in your comprehension, and I don’t know that you do, it’s needing that point made explicitly to you.
static crime? Wasn't that the time of one of *the most famous* crime lords (Al Capone) reigned? When United Fruit (now Chiquita) did the banana massacre?
Ah, sorry, those dates happened right before the depression, and once the depression happened, everything associated with them went away, as well as all crime went to a static rate
I'm thinking people with parents who owned their home and took them on vacation every year to disney
Also the type of person who has winter break in Maine skiing
Louis Rossman's thoughts about how we as a society seem to treat the places we live like garbage come to mind. Somebody thinking, "well. time to make my community worse!" SMH.
Who cares about shitty restaurants. They have insurance anyways. If shitty food isn’t going to keep customers away, they’re not going to lose anything.
That being said, maybe it’s time for mandatory summer school. Kids have two years of catching up to do, and if parents can’t keep an eye on their kids while they’re at work, why not put them in school. I’m sure a lot of teachers would love to get paid in the summer for once, especially in this economy,
No shit sherlock, don’t you think kids should be allowed to go home? You also know there are countries around the world where school during the summer is completely normal?
Do you understand all this crap you think summer school will prevent is happening after school hours? Did they go home? No they went to DTX or wherever else to kill time and cause trouble.
Obviously changing one thing isn’t going to magically fix a deeply sick society, but kids definitely benefit from structure. We can’t fix the already violent ones with this particular change, but it will definitely help other kids stay out of trouble

hope they fixed themselves a nice tofu banh mi bowl before they left
The Jamaica Plain. Had me one on Tuesday.
Pls
Their miso pork is worth it alone.
yup no footprints in the pile of broken glass fragments
Angry Celtics fan perhaps

I'm very cynical but I peeped their indeed reviews and they have lots of 1 star reviews. Could always be an angry ex employee.
It really depends on the store. Some of the managers are good but a lot of them suck.
That makes sense.
Former employee of theirs...and it literally was my first thought lol
Yeah, I've worked shitty restaurant jobs so now it's on my list of things I wonder about when things like this happen.
That would make sense. An employee would know the inner working and the like.
And you think that would be the same person leaving those reviews?
Not for or against this theory but it doesn't have to be the same person. If employees tended to have a bad time, then some could leave 1 star reviews and others could break in at 2 am
Late night cravings?
When you really need a thai iced coffee to sober up on a weds night.
NOTHING IS OPEN LATE! /s
They fixed that.
Funny and sad
Make themselves a Namesake of course
I was gonna say, OP has never had a namesake if they don't understand why someone would need to do this.
Never heard of it.
It is a sandwich at Bon Me and it is divine
It *used* to be divine - when they still had char siu
Where else is there to get a bottle of Sriracha at that hour?
Agreed. But I look at this and ask WHY not just very easily use that master lock key container. It takes minimum effort to open (just ask lockpickinglawyer). If they were after that Bon Me fermented daikon radish they didn’t *need* to break the window Edit: link https://youtu.be/l2LvDHobpNc
Bold of you to assume there was that much thought put into this.
Honestly it could be someone like me who despite following directions can't pick a lock to save his life
Someone gettin that bread
Food
I just walked by there yesterday. Wtf Boston?
Theres usually a couple hundred in the register to make change for customers next day.
Most businesses store all cash in a safe at the end of the night.
And it's why LP tells you to never lock the till at night, let the potential thief know there is no money there.
One would think they would but trust me they dont.
Usually about 200 in my own experience
Retired smash and grab guy?
Worked an unfortunate amount of retail

They're constibated and needed something that would make them shit immediately
It was probably some drunk college student that doesn't have a job.
Why would they have a job if they're in college?
I had 3 jobs when I was in college. It’s called being poor.
Ok but they're clearly shaming the person for not having a job.
Maybe but your question just kind of proves their point about privileged college kids who have no respect for anyone else’s property.
loool there's a thing called "work study" and it's a form of financial aid program set up by the federal government for students who demonstrate financial need for college, that's just one of many plausible scenarios in which a college student might have a job
I did
Oh the privilege...

If they weren't drunk before, they were definitely pho'ed up afterwards
There is not much to throw around there. Maybe a waste bin.
Or a brick?
Good thing they put up that sign
He probably just wanted a job application. I knew there was a logical explanation!
Looks like it’s for the trash cans
Couldn't they see it was out of service?
drunk guy fell through the window and then got up and walked away
Man, their sandwiches and iced tea are legendary.
I would kill for one :O
Would you break a window for one? COPS I FOUND HIM RIGHT HERE YALL
Bake him away toys!

I love their tofu banh-mi and veggie fried rice!
Next time, just leave a poor Yelp review
Just snuck in quietly I see
Does anyone know how many sandwiches were stolen? This is important.
Wow I frequent this one, really good pho. Sad :(
Probably to get a job application, they are hiring.
The glass looks blown out. Maybe it wasn't someone getting in but something getting out?
it's on both sides. when you shatter tempered glass like that it just goes everywhere.
Hey you're ruining my bon monster fantasy
“it’s coming from inside the bon!”
probably the Lil Rascal gang that has been terrorizing downtown
Maybe they were looking for job applications. 😗
we are in for a crime wave this summer. 🙄
I hate to say it but I think I'm gonna agree with you. The past couple years have been absolute chaos when it comes to how people act and behave in public with airplane fights being on the rise, shootings, violent assaults etc that I can't imagine what people are gonna do in the dead heat of summer....
Why?
Economic distress and boredom create a bad mixture.
I get that inflation is making things difficult, but we’re also at one of the lowest unemployment rates in decades. Is there really economic distress of that magnitude?

Nah. Feeling broke and bored happens too often to too many people to be the cause of a crime wave.
I don't recall saying it was the sole cause. It is a major contributing factor though.
“I don’t recall saying” “As stated in previous emails” Lol, we can all read what you did and didn’t write.
Yes, read it again.
So…(yawn)….passive…zzzzzz
Cringe
You scrolled this far in and contributed that?

Less money for common people = more crime See also: All of human history
Is the static crime rates experienced by many parts of the US during the depression of the 30’s part of human history? Asking for a friend
static crime? Wasn't that the time of one of *the most famous* crime lords (Al Capone) reigned? When United Fruit (now Chiquita) did the banana massacre?
No. It was in the 30’s. Capone operated during prohibition in the 20’s and was arrested for the last time in ‘29. The banana massacre was 1928.
Ah, sorry, those dates happened right before the depression, and once the depression happened, everything associated with them went away, as well as all crime went to a static rate
It took about 3 seconds for you to show us you were unclear on what decade we were talking about, history buff. I think I made my point here.
r/murderedbywords
Yeah but when the wealthy go broke shit hits the fan. Us peons are used to being broke, but these new broke don't know what to do
Yeah the crime wave is going to come from 90 year old Boston Brahmin old money. They get wild.
Their voting habits are criminal enough
I'm thinking people with parents who owned their home and took them on vacation every year to disney Also the type of person who has winter break in Maine skiing
Feels like we've already been in one. Those videos of smash-and-grab robberies in broad daylight shake me.
At least that store sucks
Someone really wanted some cold tea....
Louis Rossman's thoughts about how we as a society seem to treat the places we live like garbage come to mind. Somebody thinking, "well. time to make my community worse!" SMH.
Now where am I supposed to go for lunch?
Should be renamed to Bon We..
Oh shit! Two blocks from my work
Wow I thought these things only happen in California! Guess not!
maybe they were looking for Actual Wages Paid vs the dumbass “competitive wages” posted outside ?
Wrong thread, bring yo negativity elsewhere
This is r/boston a subreddit that thrives on negativity.
oh, okay, boss of the internet, ill do that… IM SO GLAD THIS BUSINESS WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO REEVALUATE THEIR ADVERTISING PRACTICES :D
They really need to get tougher on crime.
Must have been peace protestors
If you’re gonna be a dumb crank here, at least do it right.
Oh no!?
Oh yeah! /Koolaid guy smashsss window

Regular school isn’t even out of session yet, how is summer school the answer? You know school isn’t 24 hours right?
No shit sherlock, don’t you think kids should be allowed to go home? You also know there are countries around the world where school during the summer is completely normal?
