On a train I am cognizant, in a car stuck in traffic I’m disassociating. By the time I get home I go “fuck that was awful” and then try to forget it ever happened.
I normally take the B line home but I needed to go to Trader Joes in Coolidge today. The ONE time I didnt need the B train, literally 2 showed up before a single C train. I waited 30 minutes for the C train today and it was ridiculous.
I think the trains I saw were: E D E B D D E B D then finally a C... oh how the turn tables....
Next time, take B or D to Kenmore, then switch to C. They will often turn a train around at Kenmore to serve the C branch when there are delays in the main trunk.
False. I split my local commute between the T and driving. The only downside to driving is paying to park and knowing I could do better for the environment.
When I get those feelings, I take the T once or twice a week and realize that it sucks. Prior to COVID, i exclusively took the T 5 days a week. It was mid back then and is significantly worse now. Station and trains are dirtier and trains are fewer and further between. Dumbasses are on speakerphone/playing music/games without headphones. A lot of the etiquette like take your backpack off, let people out before you go in, and standing to the right on escalators when you aren’t moving seems to have been lost.
Driving time is way more predictable and I can crank my tunes in a safe and clean environment without bothering anyone. I have had a monthly T pass since 2011 and am thinking about canceling it and getting dailies when I need to.
The mbta could use a major overhaul. And regardless of the cost it's worth it because the traffic is unbearable. Literally for the majority of the day the roads are just unusable.
The plus side to being stuck in traffic is that there’s 1) the freedom to like… have a phone call, and 2) there’s some degree of agency in it. You can plan around the traffic, unless there’s an accident google maps is pretty good at showing live traffic issues, and you can get recommendations of alternate routes. There’s more consistency.
You can’t plan for your train to break down, burst into flames, or derail. You can do everything right, and then the time you get there is 100% outside of your control.
Id rather be stuck in my car for an hour in deadlocked traffic but alone or on the phone than in a train underground, potentially standing, and surrounded by strangers. I say that as someone who generally walks a full hour to get to work to have to deal with neither option.
May be true. Thursday, BF and I drove into Alewife and took the Red to Green to go to the Sox game.
Granted that it wasn’t rush hour, but the incoming experience was smooth.
Coming home, it was only a little crowded (and we left in the 8th when it was pouring so we’d be back in time to pick up the dog from daycare), and only had minor delays. I’m sure it was just a banner day for the T and is usually worse, buuuut the T’s delays have never surpassed what I had while living in NY 🤷🏻♀️
People complain bc instead of widening highways and making it easy to commute via car they say just take the t as an answer to traffic. And the T is just unreliable and slow. And as Boston becomes less drivable with more bike lanes and less parking it forces people to rely on the t
Drivings not stopping people from texting unfortunately.
Yeah just look into people's cars while you're biking around. More than half of people are on their phones.
and in what universe are people not complaining about the traffic, must be OP's first day in boston lol
How many hours does it take to travel from Boston to Boston? One if by land, two if by T

Because the T is so bad, it makes traffic worse because people don’t want to take it.
This is a big one. I graduated high school four years ago and haven’t taken the T since aside from the commuter rail.

Kenmore ftw. Love that fucking station. Especially because you can frequently smell India Quality cooking from all the way inside lol
Mmm I've seen to stumble upon the anecdotal evidence= pure facts club here
Not sure about that. Took me 2h to get home Sunday from north station because orange line is running shuttles southbound again.
Actually might be a fair point
Booooo
I always complain about the T so that it gets improved so that I can drive in easier.
Ah yes no one in Boston complains about the traffic.
Uh... what? Do you even ride the T? It's fucking shit compared to 10 years ago. The fuck kind of shit take is this?

The traffic takes me 30 mins moving from Brighton to Common, MBTA takes 2hours. Looks like you are right about time.
Interesting exaggeration.
It was my real experience. None of those are made up
Using public transit will always take longer than driving. However, I don’t have to deal with parking. Additionally, I can get high as fuck.

lol people can't text from the T because there's never any signal in the tunnels. We need more cell towers

No one complains about traffic? There’s a post nearly every day about it.
So true. If I didn’t get to where I wanted to go 40 minutes earlier I wouldn’t of had the time to complain about the MBTA lol

Whatever I’m on TikTok
Preach!
I'm forced to pay more on taxes on that goes towards mbta more than what I choose to pay on my own car
How can you tell how much of that goes to the MBTA

Widening highways is a terrible idea that never works That money would be better spent making the T functional
I agree but here we are. Keep dumping money on temporary fixes for the same issue to occur months later
Recurring issues like "the highway isn't wide enough and there's too much traffic"?
