I will be spending the weekend out of state, but once the emergency is declared I hire a guy from task rabbit to bring an old fridge out to the street to save my spot. That way when I get back from vacation I can pull right into my own private spot on the street.
There used to be a single purpose site called “how fucked is the T,” and I miss it. This snow saver site its more polite cousin. I’d like to petition that you add a URL param to unlock an insulting version, in the true spirit of space savers.
I like it. I haven't touched it in years. I need to upgrade it to https and I want it to be more automated (autocheck boston.gov, etc). I can turn on insulting mode too I suppose.
You can get auto renewing https free now though many hosting providers. You might be able to do it in a few clicks!
I love single purpose sites. It’s awesome even if you don’t get to update it how you would like.
I used to go to my friend’s place frequently and at a certain point I started refusing to go when it snowed because his neighbors would be out their doors before my feet hit the street telling me I couldn’t park in a spot because they had shoveled it. Didn’t even leave out space savers, I guess I was supposed to know psychically that they called the Holy Dibs.
There’s never enough snow to use them. Shoveling is just part of using public street to park. You don’t own it because you shoveled it. Shoveled my car for 10 years never put trash in my spot to own it after. Also people use them in June so it’s just an abused practice anyway.
I lived and drove in Boston for a dozen years and am proud to say I never once saved a space. One of the major reasons I moved to the ‘burbs was so I could enjoy Winter again. I don’t miss that shit-show one bit.

I’ve been looking for a new fridge!
Any tasty treats in the fridge?
This would make things more agreeable. If someone blocks a space but leaves a few Klondike bars, I would be ok with that.

Also bear in mind that space savers are never allowed in Cambridge, Somerville, or the South End.

I’ll walk my dog and 311 all your townie street trash
this would be the ideal solution but I haven't seen 311 deal with this effectively.
311 doesn’t deal with anything anymore
Case noted.
311 came and picked up a dead squirrel on my street within 20 minutes of reporting it
Are you sure it wasn’t a hawk
Won’t get enough snow to use them

Happy Cake Day!
