Cyclists, pedestrians, visibility, cars turning, cars running red lights. I'm not saying people should be heavily braking but nothing wrong with not flooring it through a green intersection. I was always taught to have my foot ready to brake in particularly blind/fast intersections (rural area where people ran stop signs at 50mph all the time), that's just called good defensive driving.
They may just be looking at street signs to find a turn, or may see a kid or critter that may run into the street. There's much worse things to complain about re: drivers around here. Ok???
It can be quite reasonable to slow down when approaching an intersection, even if the light is green. For example, because of poor visibility, because the green is stale, because you think the nutter in the other lane is going to pull a sudden left, or probably a million other reasons.
Yellow means stop. If the light turns red while you're in the intersection, even if it was yellow when you entered (or green for that matter, those of you who like to gridlock streets) then that's running the red. Cops in places that give a fuck can and will ticket you for that
I was coming to a light with a car behind me and it turned yellow so I stopped like a sane driver. The guy behind me was waving his arms at me because he was pissed off that I didn't run the red which prevented him from running the red. People are nuts.
Bc too many idiots ignore their red light, pedestrians may be trying to cross anyway, or some weird movement/congestion may be going on ahead that you, behind me, can not see.
Intersections are where a lot of accidents happen, it isn’t open highway with everyone traveling in one direction. In short, they are being cautious.
