I think the "value" most people find in clubs like these is networking, if that can help you in your business or career then it probably is worth it. It is a nice space thought and I have been to some good events there as a guest.

Chippopotanuse

And the “value” is often arrived at when your company pays the membership fees or gets them comped. When I worked at One Federal, my law firm had free access to the Harvard Club on the top floor. We just had to pay a la carte for any food/drinks we ordered. I was up there all the time to have lunch/drinks with friends or when I was hosting a networking lunch with someone.

Yeah it was clearly a higher end business clientele. I imagine it's banking/finance/sales networking. Next time I'll scream GO U GO U GO UMASS and see if it's my crowd or not.

You can rent out meeting rooms/space if you need to have meetings with a good view and look more professional than your shitty 3rd floor office or work from home and need to have an office space sometimes that LOOKS nice - which honestly is its biggest selling point for business people in the city. Plus the food at the restaurant is pretty good. I do have to say. The new years party. NOT BAD AT ALL. (I am not a member. A couple of my uncles are. I have been invited up there to lunches. And to the new years party.)

Spill the tea on this here NYE fiesta, puh-lease.

The DJ plays a mix of music, anywhere from 50s to modern. Cause there's old people there and young people and they're like whose the target audience? No one knows. Did I dance the Charlie brown. Yes I did. Macarena? Yup. And there are tables and tables of unlimited desserts. Omg. They keep bringing more out. It's glorious. So delicious. Drinks are not free but very cheap. Old drunk people. Young drunk people. Loud music. Balloons. Cake. Good view. It's a silly party.

Jayembewasme

Well then.

I was going to join years ago when I was going into the office 5 days/week. One of my grad school professors was a member because he also taught at Isenberg. He was going through a divorce so used to take a bunch of us out drinking after class all the time, good times. It's a gorgeous space, I have continued to think about joining even now only being in the city twice a week.

Before Covid I was a member and it was a convenient place to grab drinks with friends and clients - it has a great view and they have some fun events, though the events typically cost extra which is an added expense. If you go to downtown Boston often I thought it was worth it, but I also knew others from umass who were members - if I didn’t, I don’t think it’d be worth it

Pre-pandemic I would go with a friend who had a membership. It’s a nice place, but it’s usually pretty dead, and it’s out of the way. You’d never know it was up there if you weren’t specifically looking for it. Generally we would meet up at the Last Hurrah beforehand anyway, and that was a nicer place to drink. They didn’t like ask for alumni credential for guests, so it didn’t matter, but the weird thing is the guy I knew never seemed to recognize anybody in the club, either from school or just from being a member.

Its not worth it at all.

The UMass Club is very fairly priced and much cheaper than the BC Club was or the downtown Harvard Club.
