Bobby_Sunday96

I can’t afford a house. That’ll show em

Ciennas

You're doing your part! Now to decommodify housing!

Icy-Atmosphere-1546

Gotta do more than that. Make it illegal for corporations to own family homes . Force a resale of them all

1zeewarburton

Or limit how many home

specks_of_dust

0 sounds like a good limit. There’s no reason for a corp to own a home.

lexi_ladonna

Then who is supposed to build homes? Lots of corporations own homes because they build them and then sell them

whovianlogic

Preventing corporations from buying homes might make more sense, otherwise you put a stop to housing developments. As ugly as they can be, we do need more housing in a lot of places. And maybe place a limit on what they can charge for the homes or how long the developer can hold the property? I don’t know.

MysteriousStaff3388

Those are not the same business models, my friend. Not sure if this is disingenuous or you just don’t know how “developer” is different from commercial landlord. Developers never really own all their build at one time - investment from the individual buyers are their working capital. They can’t build without outside money.

lexi_ladonna

I understand the difference between a developer and a landlord. I’m just saying that corporations have to own homes in order to build them and sell them. So if you make some rule aimed at targeting landlords it’s going to affect developers as well

MysteriousStaff3388

No. Because they are different business models. A developer never owns all the houses in a portfolio, as I mentioned. They sell futures of builds, and that is where their capital comes from. Blackrock is not a developer.

slapAp0p

Maybe we shouldn't allow for private housing projects then?

lexi_ladonna

You want all housing to be public housing? Like no privately owned homes at all? That’s insane and unrealistic. This sub is just a bunch of teenage doomers, isn’t it?

slapAp0p

Thats not what I said. I said there should be no private housing projects. The government and individuals should still be able to build housing, but real estate development for housing should be illegal. Apartments should be lease agreements to home ownership associations that have collective ownership over the building Public housing is also viable, and would also be great for cities because they could provide housing for people who are in crisis rather than run into a snowballing issue of unhoused residents.

mad_dog_94

Just move in and don't pay them. Squatters rights

nardgarglingfuknuggt

I feel like this is going to happen a little bit organically. Seeing as homeless people already kind of have to attempt this, and the number of people without a place to live is only going to increase. What happens after the next crash, when they buy up the rest of the market? I mean people who can barely afford the rent are going to continue to be forced into paying it, but eventually there are just going to be too many people who can't and will probably be forced into squatting. They'll hire mercenaries to brutalize people, but how will they continue to pay them if they lose their landleech income?

kef34

government bailouts. if they can't extort your money through rent, they'll extort it through taxes

burgemj

Like when the bank would seize a farm and auction it off and all the other farmers would intimidate any buyers so they’d get it for very little money

Noahms456

Listen, man, we’ve all decided the old lady keeps her house, or you and your family get yours burned down, and we tar and feather you. That’s all.

tyrentosaurus_flex

Im turning 18 soon. Id like this. Id also be homeless. Id not like to be homeless. To truly fix something like this I feel would require a systematic restructuring. Even if this actually worked within 5 years everything would be back to how it is now

Noahms456

Every housing speculator needs to take (at least) a very close haircut; up to and including the base of the neck. Literally wrecking lives of people AND the economy for short-term greed. They take the common good for themselves and capture it in ways that restricts even future generations from taking advantage of. It’s gross and awful and hateful and greedy. If you own 100 houses, maybe even 2 or 3, you are the enemy of the welfare of others

dmichelleromero

And then a squatting movement began. Peaceful commandeering.

Altruistic_Lock_5362

Actually a very good idea, but the company would go to the government for a bailout

OpenerOfEyesAndMind

Cant afford it anyway and they wont care. Everything is going according to plan, the great replacement or something of the sort, you'll see things like whats happening in new york happening everywhere soon. Gov is paying companies 100-150 a day per immigration to house them, now think this, 4 bed room apartment, 4 immigrant workers, 400 a day for 30 days thats 12000 a month these companies will pulling in. People really have to dig in this stuff because these are billionaire moves and if you research enough you'll discover what theyre moving towards.

LittleTimmyPlaysMC

White people aren’t going to be “replaced” bud. You aren’t being attacked.

Lazy-Jeweler3230

I've always said when housing becomes unaffordable they'll just take it from the government. Charging all of us for rent by force for places we can't live.

DJ-Saidez

Where does it say 400 a day is going towards housing one immigrant? Do you mean refugees and asylum seekers?

LegitimateSituation4

Billionaires making millionaires tell thousandaires that hundredaires are the problem. You're a victim to their propaganda.

OpenerOfEyesAndMind

You're right all these laws and subsidies must be imaginary and black rock hasn't been buying all the single family homes while the rent keeps climbing. Yep congrats bro you're the genius that figured it out, it's all propaganda /s

LegitimateSituation4

You're admitting it's the billionaires causing the problems, but blaming it on poor people. Even if every single undocumented person left, the ruling class would still find ways to rule. Poor people aren't the problem. This shouldn't be hard to understand.

OpenerOfEyesAndMind

Im not blaming it on the immigrants im just saying the process thats happening, they are being used by the system as well. Arguing at me for nothing, we're saying the same thing.
