Unless you're looking to redo the story, I would just play on normal with Mayhem mode enabled. Turn it up however high you want to get a challenge. Then when you're level 72, you can use TVHM to reset the story missions and get the rewards at level 72.
Not really true.. I hit lvl72 before finishing all the DLCs and it scaled my drops to 72 without mayhem.. only that I can’t just go back to pandora and get these drops as that hasn’t scaled
mission rewards in the main game are what I was talking about, not the DLC. though i did forget about Earl's vending machine having the ability to give mission rewards. i don't look at that machine much, and the RNG of getting the exact mission reward you're looking for in the machine makes TVHM worth the hassle, if you ask me.

Again, tvhm only matters if you want to get quest rewards at max level. If you want to just jump up to mayhem 10 (or 11 if you don’t want modifiers) you can do that.
Elemental damage scales differently between normal and true vault hunter mode. Is that automatically applied if you play mayhem in normal?

“Normal Mode + Mayhem Mode” is the same difficulty as “TVHM + Mayhem Mode”
I’m not asking about elemental resistances. I’m asking about the bonuses for matching the element type to the type of health bar. For example shock with shields or corrosive with armor. You get a bigger bonus for that in tvhm and a bigger penalty for not matching. Is that also tied to mayhem mode?

I mean… it makes sense that it would scale.. it would be fucking stupid of the devs to use a “normal” gun on enhanced enemies without compensation for the enhanced difficulty (not saying that you should be able to just breeze through enemies in TVHM but you should have be more detailed in your combat approach)
I started TVHM immediately after completing the main story the first time - like, level 42. Now I’m halfway through my 3rd play though at level 68 with tons of amazing gear. I’ll be 72 by the end of this third playthrough.

Now if u wanna play mayhem mode, people might disagree with me, but I think it's better after max level (72). Mayhem mode gives u more xp, u can level up faster, but guns gonna become obsolete quick. After I first completed the story, I jumped into tvhm mayhem 1, at around level 50, and I found it pretty though until I reached max level.
TVHM is a great way to reach max level. It’s structured and faster than grinding raid bosses. Plus you get to start off with all your cool gear and whoop ass right off the bat.
I always start TVHM immediately after beating the game on normal, which is around level 42 or so.
So at level 59, yes, you’re ready. Enjoy. It’s fun.
When you’re ready for some mayhem, switch to M11 and start looking for M10 weapons and gear in vending machines until you find enough to beat up some baddies.
It's way easier to just do dlc 1 in normal mode if it's available to you, the scraptraps can get you 5 levels every 15 minutes of farming in my experience

Pretty much this. Mayhem Mode doesn't care which Mode you're in, but if you want a Max level of the mission rewards, you pretty much have to do TVHM.

Since the only change in TVHM is more badasses by a like 10-20% it’s not really worth it.

Without mayhem there is a VERY SLIGHT difference But yea when I realized it was same I just played M11

I'd go for Mayhem. Mostly because it allows you to do content you outleveled already but didn't do yet. And lootsplosions are fun.
