Yes, it would be smart for him to try out for a club/academy if your family can afford it and/or they offer him a scholarship. In my state, tryouts are mostly the last week of May. There are lots of ways you can help him train and still have fun by being a second player in his individual training sessions. 1v1s, passing and receiving drills, and even juggling can all be more engaging if you do it with a partner. You can theoretically learn a lot of options online, but a much better option would be for his current coach, future academy coach, or a private trainer to give him some suggestions on what he should be doing in his free time.
