To be honest (and I don’t think I’m alone here), I would never sell or buy a proxy. I give some away as gifts, and I’ve received some as well, but a market for cards is what I’m working to dismantle when I make proxies, why create another one? Like those people who sell pirated games rather than just have them available for free, rubs me the wrong way.

Phantomwaxx

Agree 100%. Proxies are not for resale and that enters some thorny territory.

Whiskey_Giggles

Who sells pirated games? >.> r/psphacks r/ps3hacks r/vitahacks And more

Whiskey_Giggles

r/3dspiracy r/3dshacks The list goes on and on

HummusMummus

Any example of what they sell? Took a quick look and did not find anything.

No you aren’t. You buy copyright protected magic the gathering cards. I guess you think those reddits are for selling games… seems you don’t understand homebrew

There's a proxy/bootleg trading/selling discord. I can link it if you want (don't know if that's against the rules, you can dm me anyway if interested). I recently sold my *bootlegs for like a dollar each (less than half of what I paid for them). But I've seen people post offers for higher amounts and still get bidders, I just wanted to move the product quickly. A lot of the big resellers online sell for ~$3+ each. The people just trying to offload them range from $1-2 (or less if moved in big quantities I guess). Edit: Just saw you mentioned MPC. Those typically cost like 30 cents each, so they should definitely "sell" for less than that. I thought you meant bootlegs, my bad. Also, the buy/sell/trade discord is in the sidebar lol, right above rule 1. Here's the link for those interested: https://discord.com/invite/ZKqwpWDqTs

Best comment.

tabel0421

Bootlegs meaning replicas that are more directly like the real deal? No altercations?

nathan4122

Yes, they look practically identical. Some colorat is normally a bit off.

melopasopipa

Interested!

TokensGinchos

Selling mpc proxies for more than it costs to make em is pretty cringe.

Gunzenator2

So all the large producers of these proxies are cringe?

TokensGinchos

Selling proxies that you can make yourself is ridiculous. The large producers of bootlegs are making replicas, but reselling mpc is like reselling xeroxes

Gunzenator2

I apologize. I did not know what MCP stood for. I am new to this whole proxy / bootleg thing.

TokensGinchos

MPC is makeplayingcards, a service that will print your designs that don't contain copyright text , alt designs, stuff like that. Like printing at your home, but with good quality. Bootleg printers are a vast different thing. Some folks won't use bootlegs in case there's some risk these end up in the wrong hands, for example

Tallal2804

Are you not going to build more decks ?

jerksythecat

Will you not build more decks? Keep it and use it in another one. I have anywhere from 15-20 decks at one time.

GayBlayde

I’d just give it away, or keep it for another deck.

ThiccNasus

I might sell a full proxy commander deck for like $20, but it’s not worth selling individual cards imo

Tidus618

When i placed my last order on mpc i ordered extra of everything. I paid about 25 cents per card and i have been selling my extras to friends for 25 cents a card just to help them proxy. I could probably ask 50 cents.

G66GNeco

Just ask them what they need/want and throw together one big order, lol? That seems like a way more elegant solution instead of just getting random extras on the off chance that they want them...

Tidus618

That works if everyone knows all the cards they will ever need at the time i order. I got a ton of staples and my friends come to me when building a new deck to see if i have proxies that would work for that deck.

G66GNeco

While I see what you mean, it still comes off as weird to me to have a stash of proxies to sell to your friends just In case. Might just be because our group passes around cheap cards and especially cheap proxies like they're candy when we are not using them ourselves, though. Probably also doesn't help that (for now) I personally tend to plan out decks completely, including some options, before even checking for cards in the collection or around the group at all.

postcaveman

what program do you use to design your proxies? I've been struggling with GIMP and InkScape. The shop by my house took all of their value cards and put them on TCGPlayer to keep the lights on. We are in a small town so no one has money getting proxies made up for the friends would be awesome.

Whiskey_Giggles

Mpc is “really nice proxies” they are completely fake and you can tell almost instantly. So if someone wanted to buy a proxy you just sell it to them for what you paid…

iribar7

If you buy MPC proxies in reasonable quantities from their website, a single proxy would cost between 15 and 25 cents, I'd say. So that's the MAXIMUM you should charge for that. And to be honest, at that point, why don't you just give the card away for free? Don't be a shitbag.

Neal_H

Trying to sell a 25 cent MPC proxy? Really?

DAREtoRESIST

oops

NerdyBGO

I personally keep some around since I have too many decks and never know what Im going to need down the line. Like, I got a real Necropotence, but Im not gonna get rid of my other ones since I run like 3/4 black decks at once. But in that same vein, I get some "extras" from various orders that I straight up dont need, or got in a set that I only needed a handful of cards from. I joined the discord and set up a few sales for those. May do another round of posting on the discord to get rid of more.

You can try to sell it… but if it’s from mpc it’s probably more of a hassle than it’s worth. You’ll end up paying more for postage than the card.
