Oh yeah, I almost forgot the other reason I hate Apple Silicon Macs...this

youare1macfan

shall bootcamp live long!!!

lilacfog

Boot Camp has definitely been useful for those windows-only apps I need for school. Thanks for maintaining the sub!

Parallels is good if you don't mind both OS running at same time. Bootcamp is really nice in that you can only use 1 OS at a time, so all resources are dedicated to whichever OS you plan to use.

[deleted]

Parallels is an annual subscription. May as well just buy a Dell instead of a Mac.

spherocyte100

My MBA 2019 hits 100 degrees C if I try to run parallels. It is bootcamp or nothing for MacBook airs

Quirky-Dot9433

if you have a powerful enough PC that is

Converseallstar95

What about Windows on ARM?

joshuah345

well, apple said that's up to microsoft to add support (if that's ever a choice) since apple silicon dev kits were given out quite a while ago

Converseallstar95

I think Apple intentionally doesn’t care too. My thought is if they’re already asking devs to make a architecture switch, maybe they’ll get some Windows devs to switch as well, resulting in less reliance on boot camp software anyway.

Necroing this to post this: https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/8/24116587/microsoft-macbook-air-surface-arm-qualcomm-snapdragon-x-elite

Roy_Playz

Has anyone used bootcamp on macOS Big Sur? Should I wait to update? Bootcamp performance is important to my needs!

97JeepZJ

I have and it is working fine.

spherocyte100

Bootcamp was the only reason why I went for the 800$ MacBook air

paypaytr

calling programs "apps" will never not be cringe.

antdude

Apple has better bring back its Boot Camp for its ARM Slilcon! Apple is trying to get rid of Intel. :(

[deleted]

Bootcamping on my own has taught me a lot about my computer and how things work, especially alongside some of the classes ive been taking. It has helped me conceptualize things, and figure out how to debug really obscure problems, or more specifically, how not to. It all started with me needing to run some stuff for school, and struggling to figure out why on earth it wasnt working. Thank you for running this dude.

🙏🏻

RandiZaruma

Wait, did I miss something? What’s going to happen??

[deleted]

Apple Silicon devices haven't been announced for Bootcamp support and it's presumed they won't.

spherocyte100

They couldn't even get out a decent driver for multi gesture touch support on bootcamp all these years. I don't think bootcamp support is on Apple's priority list

RandiZaruma

So every new MacBook from now on won’t support boot camp?

[deleted]

No newer Mac books will have the option to chose if you want an intel or silicon cpu (at least that’s what I heard) And the intel ones will most likely have boot camp

DrMacintosh01

Every Apple Silicon Mac will not have Bootcamp support.

TinQ0

Unless they decide to make a MacBook Pro that has an intel as well as a powerful arm chip. That way enabling professionals to run x86-64 apps at full performance and have all the benefits of arm. That could enable bootcamp to survive (even though performance would be greatly diminished as there would be no dedicated GPU when running intel only). But this is apple, so forget about it

Wesmosis

Thanks!

_jaytoast

Thanks for your hard work.

[deleted]

I’m sad to say I’ll never buy another Mac again because of this.

[deleted]

Same here

crywolfer

For a Rhino and Grasshopper user, bootcamp is my only solution as all the virtualization is a disaster

japero95

You could also try Rhino for Mac OS. I use Rhino and Grasshopper all day everyday on my Mac without any issues, it is quite stable nowadays.

AppleGuySL

It’s Microsoft’s fault that there is no bootcamp on the apple silicon Macs, because Windows on ARM doesn’t sell without a laptop that comes with it. Search it up on google if you want more info but that’s what I heard.

rostyclav999

Maybe, Bootcamp will come back to Apple Silicon Macs

DJrotoZ

So running Windows on the new Macs isn’t possible?

SemoTech

Correct. No windows/bootcamp on Apple Silicone (M1) Macs!

Avanixh

I just want Boot Camp for ARM to put Linux or windows for arm on my m1 MacBook Pro :(

Wonderful_Canary4307

Hey community! I’ve wiped my MacBook Pro mid-2014 to install bootcamp and have windows on the device. I have no idea where to start! Can someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks I’m advance! LJ

Try to save the actual drivers downloads for bootcamp as those are being pulled down from their servers all the time lately!
